There’s only three things certain in life. Death - Taxes - And a Rhys Stanley pile on from Cats fans.

By champion data stats alone, Stanley ranked same as Blicavs and ahead of Mason Cox. And if we take the coaches “horses for courses” theory on selection, he has to play against Melb - assuming that’s our prelim opponent. Last time we played Melb he did well on Gawn. Gawn had 35 hitouts but didn’t have a big impact on the game - 14 touches Vs Stanley 13.

Ceglar is “like for like” with Gawn but Gawn does it far better. The benefit of Stanley / Blicavs against Melb is that it makes Gawn / Jackson accountable to “run with” our rucks who cover the ground better. Ceglar might compete ok at hitouts but he’ll blow up trying to chase Gawn and Jackson around.

Not Stanley’s best last night but he had a few mates wearing blue and white. Reckon he’ll get a boot up the backside but will play. Particularly if he’s got the message that he performs or gets dropped for a GF (if we win).

You lost me at champion data stats. Not a great thing to base player performance on.

Wow.

There's brief footage of Scott standing by the bench approx. 10 seconds from the final siren, and in the background you see Stanley with a cold stare / look in his eye that could kill as he watches Scott.

He certainly wasn't joyous about the pending win.
He has only himself to blame

Just needed the run- will be fine from here on.

Trouble is, our next game is once again 'playing after a bye'.

We don't traditionally do well in such games. Granted, we got it done against the Pies but I'm not sure another game like that will see us succeed again.

Hopefully, we've blown the cobwebs out, and CS finds the elusive key to having us switched on from the first bounce in a fortnight.

It looked as if he were also off centre to the ball......ie the line of the falling ball was just outside his left shoulder, hence he seemed / needed to turn with the ball as he attempted to mark it.

Yeah... most times you misjudge a ball with your hands, there's a body or a face behind it to take the impact.

He was turning the same way as the flight of the ball, but the ball was going a lot quicker than he was... so it went passed his arms with nothing behind it and rolled on towards Holmes. Rohan just had to keep moving in the direction he was going, luckily his balance lasted until he got to the ball.

Sidebottom also misjudged how badly Rohan was about to misjudge it and slipped over trying to adjust, which was perfect for us 🤣

On a night when every bounce seemed to go in their favour, it was perhaps a perfect play by Rohan, completely unintentionally.

Scott has benched Stanley once before like that, it was against Hickey at the SCG, and he didn’t regain trust in him again for a while. Wouldn’t shock me if they switched to Ceglar.

Stanley has had such a great year, I would stick by him.
He wasn’t talking about Stanley but on Krock postgame Selwood said they were running out of interchanges - said when he came to the bench late there were only two left. Could have been that?

The moment Sidebottom began to slip I was confident in an instant that we had it, because he wouldn't of caught Rohan anyhow, and Holmes was already in the square.

They're in the belief that they have their own set of rules. Ginnivan is allowed to duck and dive but you can't boo him. But you can boo Selwood and Danger (why Danger???) and even Goodes!

Noticed Danger was boo'ed and I am not 100% sure why. Did we miss something?

Watched the replay today to have another look wi the emotion taken out of it (which always gets the better of me when it’s live). I think credit really needs to go to the pies, they’re a pretty good side. They brought the heat, it was immense, and despite us really not playing that well (mainly because the pies didn’t allow us too), we found a way, in a huge final in front of 91k at the MCG. Collingwood play a style similar to that of Richmond and it’s really troubled us in recent times, so great to see us stand up and deliver.

Also, I think the pies played their best game of the year last night.

Jezza is a man for the moment, he really can fire in big plays.

At some stage I’ll stop talking about the game but not yet… just watching from the start now. The first qtr nowhere near as bad as I felt at the time. Just failed to hit the scoreboard. Had plenty of chances. Pressure was huge from both sides. Our tackling was mostly excellent.
Wait till the second. This is where it lifts further to the point Collingwood start getting flustered and fumbling etc. Close, Holmes, Rohan and Stengle were menaces, while our mids battered into them in the trenches.

We also started pressuring in board kicks and chopping the odd one off, which in turn forced them to take more defensive chip/sideways kicks. At the time I was frustrated we allowed this but on reflection those passages usually didn't lead to a whole lot. They got most of their last 7 goals (i.e after first quarter) from stoppages or turnovers like when Blitz kept slipping over or the ball bounced funny. Not from their keepers off accumulation.

That swoop luke is a pies twitter flog. Selwood didn't get a free kick, might have been the 3rd, where he bent over and picked up the ball and was taken high in the tackle. 100% free kick, because he hadn't come back up from picking up the ball, but Pies twitter was full of "good if Ginnivan doesn't get them, no one should" despite them not being the same thing.

I don't think anyone is getting through Sydney
They needed to beat St Kilda by about 40/50 point in r23 to get a home final V the Dees and didn't look like getting it done.

Franklin looks cooked and Logan McDonald isn't ready.

They are very good on the loose ball around the ground & pressure is huge but don't go thinking they are unbeatable.

That's kind of how I viewed it the day after... Collingwood’s pressure would have stifled most.

They were good.

I feel like they had the game on their terms, and we had to adjust.

What pleases me is that has been the crux of most of our finals smashing that are over at quarter time. Was nice to see us suck up the challenge and just grind out a win.

I never felt we really had the game totally on our terms - as in how we played at our best in the H&A, at least not for any substantial period of time.

Having such a reliable bottom 11 makes a massive difference.

I think this Collingwood side have some pretty good seasons ahead of them, regardless of what happens in the last 3 weeks. If they bring that a few more times, they are right in this one too.

Strange it's the same team that could barely beat North, the Suns, Adelaide and Essendon.

Daisy is right, why was Duncan called to play on in the middle of the last qtr, he never went off his mark and only had the ball a few seconds
It's happened a few times to him now, he feigns a handball and gets called to go, and then he's caught flat-footed. I'm pretty sure it's technically not play-on but he should probably put it away. :drunk:
