There were so many mistakes in those last 4 minutes, like watching the Keystone Cops. I was laughing so much that it hardly mattered who won the game. Dangerfield grabbed the ball from a centre bounce ran around and kicked it straight up in the air and led the stampede to almost mark his own kick then managed to get a flick pass away without getting pinged, and then the Cameron kick to Rohan that he just managed to tip forward with Sidebottom sliding across the turf towards him and Rohan trying to stay upright long enough to handball to Holmes. It was total bedlam!🤪 The only thing missing was that music used for the Benny Hill closing skit.

McRae wanting more HTB paid is interesting. His team plan often means second to the ball at stoppages, the Pies focus more on getting the second or third posession.

Not gonna happen in finals mate. Stop trying to influence the umpires

Yeah i hope they fine him his coffee money for it.
Bit of a newly baptised dickhead. Laughable.
Doesn't want players lying flat, never mind they are knackered.

From the kid who was cramping in the last quarter of his debut match to running 100m to get on the end of this passage and kick the winning goal - Holmes has come so far and yet is no where near the finished product

Love this kid; great trade on draft night to secure his selection

I thought Bews was a bit of an unsung hero, as usual.
Workmanship.
He was immense.

A couple of times he didn't stay with Elliot in the 50 but one he was clearly worried about Ginnivan et al about to break into the 50 unmarked. The other, well he forced him out wide for a boundary line shot.

But in reality the defence all rolled through different opponents fairly regularly so it wasn't quite as much about match ups. 14 possessions for Bews is a lot given he can be influential with 7. A lot of them were really hard fought contested ones that lead to a great sling shot down the other end. Meanwhile he and Stewart often neutralised outnumber situations - one of them together - and made all the crucial spoils, tap ons, tackles etc to effectively shut down attacks.

He's had a few strong finals Bews but I'd mark yesterday's as probably his best. Helped will us over the line in so many crucial moments.

He and Joel tackling like their life depends on it leaves the ball to spill to Stewart - Guthrie - Cameron - Rohan/Holmes goal to seal it. Like a dog at a bone was Jed.

There are pie fans on twitter still crying about Duncan not getting pinged when he never fully grabbed the ball until he was tackled. The umpire page on twitter saying it's a correct decision and they can't handle it.

We didn't get paid a single ruck infringement including the Stanley one where Cameron goes to ground and pulls him down which leads to the Collingwood goal at HT.
McCrae should be fined for whinging about it and trying to influence the officiating to suit his game plan.

FFS I've watched the replay and the umpiring was fine. Maybe one of the deliberate OOBs was too harsh, and in the back is still not paid enough, but that is for both sides.

I don't like big powerful clubs using their weight of numbers and media influence in this way.

Doubt it. That would give Coll/Freo a 6 day break.

Quite sure I heard last night Syd get the Sat night.
Haven’t they even done a super Saturday before
Twilight then Night

Top seed we must get some preference

And looks like he is behind Ginnivan when he starts that run...

I'm glad you see it like that, was expecting someone to say he was a lesser light.
From one end of the MCG it's hard to pick up definite play the other end.
He didn't do anything too spectacular, but he was so strong at bottling it up on the deck I thought,
denied their little nippies on many occasions. Strong, and a far distant memory of being called out
on BF as dodgy, especially for his rampant OBFs.

He really has been a huge asset to us this year, as he has developed. Think back to when Freo beat us at KP earlier in the year, they shut down Smith knowing it impeded our ability to run the ball off half back. Well Smith either by design or by a good Pies strategy never really got his run and carry game going on Saturday. Holmes stepped up for him. I loved that play at about the start of the 4th when he had the composure on the back flank to take possession stand and look for options up the field and decide he was better off taking the game on to open up space, he puts the jets on, evades 2 Pies players, handballs to Smith setting up a one two play but unfortunately Smiths handball missed Holmes and caused a turnover. His confidence though to take the game on at that point in the game is impressive, will only get better.

And big fat Cox on top of and body slamming Selwood, so he can't reach the ball.
Jeebus the list is endless.

My personal favourite was the contest on the boundary in the last quarter where a Geelong player was getting tackled while the ball was laying on the ground behind him between the contest and the umpire and we still didn't get a holding the man free kick.

Haha really? I'll look it up on replay. Just for personal satisfaction that we beat them regardless, and can expect better umpiring.
Sidebottom caught by Duncan on the boundary was another. Guthrie took so many highs, too.

Surprised dekonnings game not getting more praise. He stepped up like a seasoned veteren when he needed too. was so composed in some absolute key aerial duels and safe hands when others werent.
just a legend (as much as a boy can be). Had a brief chat after and he said he did find it hard to block the crowd out. I said you couldnt tell as he looked so focussed and calm

His improvement this year has been incredible. It really has been.

Great game

Great result

But my doubts still remain on some old issues.

- How does Kolo get picked, the non rushed behind in the goal square sums him up. A dead set liability in big games.

- Can the team move the footy and score when facing elite pressure from the opposition.

- Dangerfield is just a poor kick and let's us down consistently. Love all other aspects of his game, but he does frustrate.

- First touch fumble, Bews the number 1 offender

- Smith is a great runner but is not clean with disposal in attacking forays, missing targets and is an average kick for goal.

- Stanley was soft again but has had a much improved season. Need the other Stanley to appear in the next game.

I think we may struggle in a preliminary final against Melbourne. These above issues have been around for a long time and going on last night's game, not a lot has changed.

Hope I'm wrong, but it feels like Groundhog Day, not Fathers Day.
I want to argue with your doubts (as I am positive and don’t like negative vibes) - but I find it hard to.

Having said that I think we (and the situation) also made collingwood ”play bad” including fumbles and turnovers - so maybe we just to accept finals are not perfect games. Melbourne didn’t look good under pressure either - and I think we can trouble them too.

Interesting thing for me is that a lot of players had a bad game (compared to last few months) so I don’t think MC will be able to work out whether to make changes or not (can’t change everyone who was down). I think there will be 2 changes max. And maybe only 1. So we just have to (like you) hope you are wrong!

They needed to beat St Kilda by about 40/50 point in r23 to get a home final V the Dees and didn't look like getting it done.

Franklin looks cooked and Logan McDonald isn't ready.

They are very good on the loose ball around the ground & pressure is huge but don't go thinking they are unbeatable.
If we've learnt anything about the cats in finals it's that we're susceptible to high pressure

Had the most contested possessions of any defender on the field and was the only to have more contested than uncontested. You need guys like that in finals. He was in the trenches and winning the dogfights. 6 intercepts and handed off Close's first goal then made the long kick to Cameron in the 4th term that lead to Close's 2nd.

NO OUT ON THE FULLS! In fact his kicks down the line all did their job.
