Yeah that’s pretty quick for Ratts to start confiding in mates and for those mates to tell mates after “long chats”. The news is 14 hours old!

Well according to the presser he saw the writing on the wall on Sunday and then had 5 days to convince Lethers and the Pres.

The same Ross Lyon who ran our list into the ground, left for more money elsewhere and then ran Freos list downhill. Great short term coach if you can overlook his mercenary move.
Yes, the same Ross Lyon who went balls in for a flag and was some atrocious kicking away from two flags (one with us & one with Freo)

I'm not sure what you're alluding to here, Ross Lyon or Jake Niall? I think you're out of line because what I saw was Jake Niall's article get published without confirmation from the club. What do you think? I just think it's a silly insinuation. Jake Niall plays within the rules.

What's your name? Dard? Dard Ball Get ? Okay, that's the best insinuation you can come up with after two hours of press conferences? You're quite brilliant, Dard. Yeah, terrific. Just go to what the club said and have a look, see what comes out.

Terrific, Dard.

I mean to allude it was a done deal, I can't let that go because it's incredibly disappointing, and I'm not sure what you're alluding to, so I think you've got to look at what you stand for as a poster to be frank. Dard.

Lmao of course we'd go the bloke who hasn't been prepared to go through an interview process by any club that has needed a new coach in the last 2 years.

That desperate that we beg the bloke that dumped us to come back.

He had the chance to prove he had changed at Freo. And he did the same thing.

I want a proper process to pick the next coach. I want the likes of Dunstall on the selection committee.
And if Lyon wants the chance he can go through the process.

Lethlean was interesting in his comments that they recognise an incoming coach will have negatives that they will need to work on and put support in place to deal with. Suggests to me that they are looking at someone who has coached before (e.g. Lyon) whose negatives will be a known quantity.

Ross has acknowledged on Footy Classified and Triple M that the game has changed significantly since the 6-6-6- rule was introduced and the sort of defensive structure he and Clarko used to adopt would not work these days. He is smart enough to put in place a game plan suited to the list and the way footy has developed. Knowing Ross, that would also come with a few things that were new to the industry entirely.

Ross cops a lot of criticism for never having rebuilt a club but in his last couple of years at Freo, he introduced a lot of the kids who were part of Freo's success this year. Guys like Brayshaw, Taberner, Logue, Cox, Ryan, Pearce, Switkowski, Schulz, Darcy have all come on as excellent players (plus Langdon and Cerra who both left) and Lyon was coach during the early years of their career. You could argue that another 12 months at Freo and he would have had them back in the finals.

Literally none of that has happened champiano

Lyon left the club in an absolutely terrible position and was awful for our young players. He'll no doubt get a better performance out of our squad but unless he's changed his ways a lot I really don't like the sound of this.
I’ll make this very clear.

ROSS HAS NEVER had a director of football with the pedigree of Walsh and he has never had support with someone as renowned as Rath.

His job will be to coach and develop a list. Not to also be the list manager and recruiter and everything in between.

Ross has specifically in the past said, if he gets another job. He wants an offensive coordinator (self identified he has issues here)

Walsh is big enough and ugly enough to work with and ultimately control him.

It’s a yes from me and I hope it happens.

Because even if he comes and we have a shit 2023.

I’ll know it’s the list once and for all. The talent isn’t there.

Yeah I think losing

I think you’re over estimating our list

Yeah I do think we need to rebuild (not a full). We have too many holes in our list and also an imbalanced from an age demographic whether it’s next year or year after, it will happen.

We need another ruckman, we need another forward, we need a running half back and we need 2x class mids. A lot of spine is missing

It's the club pushing the "This list can do more" narrative.

Guys like Billings, Hill, Ross, Howard etc can all be pushed to do more or be pushed aside. We've long lamented the development of kids like Clark, Coff, Sharman etc

Let's not forget that Lyon took guys like Dal and Joey from being decent flankers to elite mids. He developed Jason Gram and Sam Gilbert from nothing into a pair of elite half backs. He took what Aaron Davey did in fits and spurts at Melbourne and built a forward pressure gameplan around it that still impacts football today.

He did the same at Freo with a bunch of their mid range players going to an elite level for a few years at the top.

I'd hope the Saints are smart enough to put failsafes in place to prevent a complete meltdown in 5 years time but IF Ross is the guy, he's absolutely capable of getting more juice from a few of these lemons.

The only real question ever about Ross is will his teams ever kick enough goals to win a flag. If he’s watching every other team move the ball quickly and would embrace it you’d have to go for it.

I've been supporting this club every year of my adult life, and every season, there he was - winning games and setting standards, winning games and setting standards...I CAN'T TAKE THIS NO MORE!

Did we plan all this? Of course we did. Been plannin' it for years :cool:

There’s a perfect candidate right in front of us. We just have to open our f*cking eyes

We are paying good money to Rath.

Let him earn his keep now.

2009 we had the 4th highest ave score with almost 100 points per game but we had a % that was 30% better than the next best.

2010 our scoring dropped to 8th in the comp but we still had the 4th best % which is brilliant given Roo missed basically the entire season.

The whole "Lyon can't score" narrative is BS

Lyon was halfway through a rebuild at Freo and got the sack. He squad in 2019 was one of the youngest in the league. He didn't leave them in a hole - he actually left them with a list chock full of young talent. The argument to get rid of him was that he couldn't adapt his gameplan to suit modern footy and he'd been there too long and accumulated too much baggage. The guy who took over from Lyon got Freo back into contention within 2 years largely off the back of the young guys Lyon started developing.
