God I'll have to switch off the media today, too much BS being ejected all over the place.
Yeah I've got a headache listening to it. Presser is enough for me, everything is is drivel. Looking forward to the new coaching appointment though

At the start of the year I was excited by our forward line prospects. I thought a King, Marshall, Membrey, Gresham, Higgins, Butler forward line looked really potent. Throw in the likes of Hayes and Sharman sitting in the wings.

But the second half of the season in particular was damning on Ratts and the other coaches. Our forward game plan was non existent and Ratts seemed fathomless to correct it. As many posted on here ad nauseum, it was just bomb it long to Max, competing with three opponents.

Did I want to see more of that next year? No way. Max King is a generational talent that is being wasted in most part due to a poor game plan. As others have said Ratts seemed to have no plan B, and his plan A was being picked apart by all the decent teams.

Footy is a ruthless business and while it's hard to see a decent guy like Ratts get shafted I think the correct decision has been made eventually.

I'm coming around to Ross The Boss Lyon at the helm.

Knows the game so well, sets supreme standards and will be in immediate harmony with Lenny Hayes.

He has the aura of a Coach that our current players, and prospective players will want to play for.

A culture setter.

3 year Paul Roos type deal.
Year 1: Do what you want Ross, build the standards. We'll search for your Transition Coach.
Year 2: Transition Coach in as Snr Assistant.
Year 3: Transition year. Ross still in charge.

Surely that would be a selling point to players, supporters and a prospective Coach.
Ross is far too much of an egomaniac to go for a transition plan imo

Everyone is clearly zeroing in on Ross.

If I don’t start seeing a denial - I think it’s a done deal.

Well, at least it didn’t take us 6 years to read the writing on the wall as it did with Richo, and for that we should all be grateful.

We scraped into one final off the back of a shortened covid season and one Paddy Ryder.

Sorry but Ratts was a nice guy, but hardly looked inspirational in all the media we saw him do, and was probably the same with the players. Had no plan B and did not play to the strengths of his players (Battle on the wing for HOW long?) His speech at the B&F was terrible.

I‘d rather strike out again taking a risk than put up with same old, same old for another few years.

Does anyone know where we can view this infamous Ratts' speech at the BnF?

What I thought was hilarious was Damo saying our presser and decision making was worse than Essendons absolute s**t show.

Kidding surely

Surely.

That present conference was complete amateur hour.

People may not like the decision, but at least it came from a full review of the football department and the press conference was at least professional and took accountability.

you can't be a candidate for a job you already have?

Alison Brie What GIF

surely the club wouldn't go near Leon Cameron

Yeah that’s pretty quick for Ratts to start confiding in mates and for those mates to tell mates after “long chats”. The news is 14 hours old!

Risky has been pretty consistent with his Ratts info. I believe he has a contact. Probably is pretty petty the reasoning but it wasn't a single thing, more consistent vanilla standards.

Best press conference this club has held in a very very long time.

I was outraged last night, however this was the strong press conference I was hoping to see.

Look forward to receiving the communication re the review findings

I agree. I watched via the AFL app but then had the misfortune to watch two wannabe dolts review it and mercilessly slag and bag the club.

One was the vituperative Damien Barrett. I didn’t know who the second person was but it was someone called Nat. Not sure who she is or whether she has had experience at club level. It didn’t sound like it.

Basically they were both saying the club made a mistake and that those who have decided to identify and rectify the mistake should be removed and are untrustworthy because they made the original mistake. Especially Lethlean who was previously leading the football department that he was involved in reviewing.

Barrett then said Bassat might be a good businessman but that he’s out of his depth as a President. They both mocked Bassat about his comment that Ratten was treated “humanely” and then they derided Bassat even more because he provided Ratten with an opportunity to address the decisions of the review and to defend himself. They both intimated Bassat was a fool.

Finally they both suggested the list was rubbish and had no future etc. Acidic and nasty.

For what it’s worth I like what I saw at the presser. The criticism about Lethlean reviewing the football department he lead was valid, but the club has done what it needed to do. They have ripped the band-aid off. The coaching and game plan during the second half of the year was just unacceptable. It couldn’t go on.

The media will no doubt focus on Ratten and his treatment, but that's just football media doing what it needs to do, which is to find the human narrative in every story. I get it. But the fact is that the club does not exist for the benefit of any person. If his sacking was the right call to be made, then it had to be made, regardless of the fairness or otherwise of the decision to Ratten.
