For all we know the last month could have been the process to identify the next coach and then Ratten was given the chance to go and present his case like the other coaches would've and a decision was made.
Ratts was given a "Show Cause Notice" - as in - here is our decision, show us why we are wrong. That's fair and respectful.

Have a mate who is mates with a staff member at the saints .. not that he would really be in the know or anything of importance as he’s just a general staff member , but he just said their are whispers around that it’s Lenny .. doubt it though
Lenny would be a massive risk... even with Ross as a Senior Assistant.

I'm amazed that I can't recall a single instance in 3000+ posts where I wasn't of the polar opposite opinion to your good self.

It's like upsidedown land or something.

I'm amazed by it.... which means you are completely unfazed by it right?!

The topic is Brett Ratten sacked and what goes with that. Personal remarks which are incessant on here 'should' be taken to PM. As for Ross Lyon and you wanting him as our next coach, i am literally gobsmacked how any St Kilda supporter would want that. To say more would earn me a red card.

I will just laugh and roll with it if it happens. Not like it can get much worse then recent times.

Watch the Amazon prime doco from last year… never seen a coach look so wildly incompetent.
Looks like he has just woken up half the time. Presents terribly compared to someone like Fly at the Filth.
EDIT - sorry I thought you were talking about Ratts. Stand by my comment re Ratts however.

I honestly don’t understand why people wouldn’t want Ross.

Elite coaches around the globe get better the older they get. AFL seem to always want to go young.

Ross has a history of winning and building winning cultures and is desperately unlucky to not be a premiership winning coach.

The relationships he had with the players speaks for itself. Some lesser known players feel hard dons by him, sure, but he was in the business of winning, not coddling.

Development when he was here was an issue, but we were in the window and going hard. Reckon every club would do a similar thing with the list we had.

And I love his pressers.
100%, I would like to see him back and as you say people learn and grow with age and experience and would be a better coach now tha he was then and he's know for getting the most out of the list.

If we could have someone in to help develop the kids underneath him, then we're off to the races.

Whoever gets the job will be our 150th coach.
Tom Browne reporting the following:

- Bulldogs shutting down Beveridge leaving to take the job

- ROSS LYON IS NOT RESPONDING TO MEDIA ENQUIRIES ABOUT THIS

Herald Sun reporting that Ross would take the call if Saints rang.

And that’s from Jay Clark who worked closely with Ross on the Sunday Rub

Think Leon Cameron is too meek to be coach of a club like St.Kilda. Your club looks it best with a strong and vocal leader - ultimately the club looked its best when you had someone like GT about.

Nathan Buckley isn't the worst option. Ross Lyon coming back sounds like it could be fairly chaotic

Pyke reportedly doesn’t want to leave Sydney

Peter Ryan reporting that Bucks isn’t interested in coaching yet

Leon Cameron(?) hard pass from me

Rossy the lord and saviour

Former St Kilda and Fremantle coach Ross Lyon is open to taking a call from the Saints about their coaching vacancy.
Lyon, 55, is believed to be in St Kilda’s sights to replace Brett Ratten in what could be a remarkable return to a club he coached to three Grand Finals.
Lyon has spent the past two years working in commercial property and AFL media but has not ruled out a comeback to the league’s coaching ranks.
Highly-respected for his tactical acumen and excellent record, it’s understood Lyon would be happy to have a conversation with Saints’ chiefs if they sought him out.
He knocked back interest from Carlton and Essendon over the past 18 months and was offered a job on Geelong’s coaching staff in the preseason.
St Kilda said today it hasn’t spoken to Ross Lyon about becoming its senior coach, but has vowed to act “quickly and decisively” to replace Brett Ratten.
Asked if the club had already spoken to Lyon, new chief executive Simon Lethlean said:”No, we haven’t ... we have made no decision”.
When pressed on whether the Saints would run a process for the next coach, Lethlean dodged the question, saying “we have uncovered what we need”.
The Saints refused to discuss plans for Ratten’s replacement, but club president Andrew Bassat said they had a clear view of the future.

St Kilda football director Jaon Blake played under Lyon, while there was a strong push midseason from St Kilda to make a play for the man who took the club to three grand finals..
Lyon coached the Saints from 2007 to 2011, including taking the Saints to the grand Final in 2009 and 2010, before quitting to join Fremantle.
He led the Dockers from 2012-2019.
Bassat said the club needed a “different style of leadership and a different voice”
WHO’S IN THE FRAME FOR NEXT SAINTS COACH?
- Simeon Thomas-Wilson

Brett Ratten has been sacked by St Kilda just months after signing a new two year contract. So the question facing the Saints is, who will be their next senior coach?Former St Kilda coach Grant Thomas says the Saints need to go for a “premiership coach or someone you know who can deliver a premiership” such as Luke Beveridge after the surprise sacking of Brett Ratten.
When asked who he thought should be the Saints coach, Thomas said “you’d either want a premiership coach or someone you know can deliver a premiership”.
I’m a very passionate Luke Beveridge fan,” Thomas said.
“I’d be doing everything I could to exit him out of there and bring him home, if you like. I think he would be perfect.
“I would absolutely give James Hird a good tryout. I’m maybe only a little bit anti-AFL in doing that, but I think James has got great credentials.
“I don’t know who Choco Williams has offended but I’m glad he’s offended someone, so I’d give him an opportunity and a look.
“Ross Lyon is obviously a highly-credentialed coaching candidate.”

Who make the list of potential candidates? We take a look.

Ross Lyon
Could Ross the Boss make a stunning comeback to the Saints? Lyon guided the Saints to a grand final in 2009 before a controversial move to Fremantle. Would the scars of this remain?
Luke Beveridge
The Western Bulldogs coach has one year to run on his contract at the Whitten Oval and would be an attractive option for the Saints.
St Kilda reportedly targeted Beveridge before he re-signed at the Dogs in 2019.
He has strong ties to the Saints.
Beveridge had accepted a role at the Saints as head of football before his shock appointment at the Bulldogs for the 2015 season
Does he jump ship early to rebuild St Kilda, the club he played 45 games for in the 1990s?
Beveridge’s father John was a long-time recruiting boss at the Saints.
Robert Harvey

The Saints legend wants to be a senior coach, having put himself forward for several vacant positions over the past couple of years. The dual Brownlow Medallist narrowly missed out to Ratten when he was appointed as the senior coach of St Kilda in 2019.
Adem Yze
The Melbourne assistant has come close to several senior coaching gigs, most recently with Essendon. Could St Kilda be the one that finally gives Yze a chance?

Lenny Hayes
The club great has only just returned to Moorabbin as an assistant coach. Spent five years at GWS. Could be one to watch.
Mark McVeigh
Filled in as caretaker senior coach for the Giants this year, winning four out of his 13 games. Missed out on the top job at GWS to Adam Kingsley so is available.
Ash Hansen
Long considered a senior coach in the making, Hansen got a taste of what it is like when he took the reins of Carlton for a game this year when Michael Voss had Covid. Coached the Bulldogs to the 2016 VFL flag.
Jaymie Graham
Another one considered to be a senior coach in the making. Now at Fremantle Graham has also had stints at West Coast and the Saints, back in 2012. Dockers coach Justin Longmuir says he is ready to lead his own team.

James Hird
The Essendon legend put his hand up to be the senior coach of the Bombers. But is it just his former club he wants to be the senior coach of.
Leon Cameron
Took Greater Western Sydney to a Grand Final and three preliminary finals during his time in the Harbour City, which ended midseason. Has plenty of experience.
Don Pyke
Took the Crows to a Grand Final five years ago and has played a big role in Sydney’s assault on another premiership. Was forced to apologise over Adelaide’s disastrous preseason camp. Hard to know if that would be an impediment here.
Nathan Buckley
The former Magpie coach has said he won’t be coaching at AFL level in 2023. Doubtful he will change his mind.
Mark Williams
Remains one of football’s most outstanding people, but hasn’t coached at the level since 2010, even if he has worked at successful clubs in the years since.

The former North Melbourne coach assisted the Saints in the review that has led to Ratten’s sacking. It would be a huge move by the Saints given Noble’s struggles at the Roos, but it has happened before.

You mean he's wasted his money doing all those Tony Robbins courses during the past 12 months ?

I've always wanted to see a season where the coaching is controlled by the fans…

Text in "Carlisle to full forward" or "Dougal into the ruck"… position changes and team selection are made on a weight of numbers of the fans scenario.

Go full Golden State and let the players run their own pre-season and team selection/bench management.
