Suns looking to trade down would make sense, if they’re into Hollands. He seems unlikely to be taken by anyone else in the top 10.

But it doesn’t make a lot of sense for us to trade down from 2 then trade back up again.
Suns also need lots of second round picks for next yrs 4 academy players they have to bid on.

So it's potentially now pick 2, 40 and F2

For

5, 12, Port F2, Port F3?

Yeah nah. If you were off the mark with your Ginbey mock with the initial trade don't scramble on draft night to make it work now O'Brien.

If he's gone he's gone, means someone else will be there. Fold Coast can pick him all they want, he's not bonafied enough for us to warrant also coughing up a 2nd in a strong draft.
It was a rumour on the Suns board

Trade makes sense for them but little sense for us and no indication O’Brien is even considering it so no need to be jumping at shadows

Put it this way, I’ll delete your account if we do it

The majority of Geelong’s senior players (Basically anyone not named Selwood, Hawkins or Smith) hadn’t of won a flag.

The majority of our senior players (Basically anyone not named Gaff, NN & Shep) had.

I completely agree with everything else as those funnily enough were our best players in the next few years.

I take your point re the eagles not regaining their hunger post 2018

However, the Geelong side of 2022 had only 3 players (Selwood, Hawkins and Duncan) from their 2011 premiership side and one other player (Smith) who’d won a flag elsewhere

I’d suggest that what drove them last year was a desperation that 2022 might be their last chance after several years of getting close. If anything, Scott’s comments relayed by ECE confirm this - sections of the board were agitating for a rebuild and he’s backed the players. Another close but not quite season in all likelihood would have triggered a rebuild

Selwood has gone, Hawkins will have a delayed start to the season, Dangerfield has what he’s craved. There’s a group of players over 30 that now have to dust themselves off and go again and dodge the injury gods that looked after them in 2022

They’ve got some good youngsters no doubt, but they’re largely role players and the strength of the side was their older group.

They’ll be an intriguing watch in 2023

For work, we had Chris Scott come and talk to us all - guest/motivational speaker.

Was interesting, as he talked all about the age and perception of the Geelong team and media sentiment around 'too old to win the premiership' which crept into their board. Pressure and conversation from some of the board was around we need to rebuild, Chris and his team were no we don't. So he presented back to them that no team or very rarely has a team bottomed out and gone to the draft to build success again - was a bit hazy here as I'm sure he meant fully relied on the draft to rebuild and challenge again.

Hawthorn - drafted Mitchell, Buddy, Roughy, Hodge, Lewis that built the core and then traded in Gunston, Gibson, Lake, Hale to complete the side. Tigers drafted most of theirs but added Prestia, Lynch.

He twisted 'too old/too slow' to 'most experienced' and showed a graph of where all the clubs sat and their experience level, which clearly showed they were the most. They also spoke about rather than whipping the older players over preseason, what's the point Isaac Smith is already an elite runner he's not going to get any better - they wanted to ensure he maintained that rather than over train him to get a 1% increase. So experienced players, built their own training programs with staff to ensure they could maintain optimal performance. Younger players had individual programs, but that was more about driving improvement.

It was interesting that they believe they can maintain success ongoing, without having to rebuild.

When he showed graphs of average age for 2022 we were one of the highest, got me thinking back to the arguments that followed on here about getting rid of older players vs the keeping experience on field and with training standards. Do we need to rebuild vs replenish the list.

I know our list is different to theirs etc etc, but if we draft well over the course of the next few seasons and then recruit some of the missing pieces there is no reason we can't get back up the ladder in a few seasons.

Did you get any question time and if so did anyone get a chance to tell him the Bowes trade was an absolute piss take by the AFL?

West Coast holds four selections inside the top 26: Picks 8, 12, 20 and 26. It looms as the Eagles‘ best draft hand in 15 years, so whether they’d be prepared to shuffle their selections too much remains doubtful, particularly with ample WA-based prospects sitting in that 18-pick range. They’re likely to select between four and five players.

Article still maintains we’re focusing on WA players. Don’t think that’s quite as set in stone as they think

I don’t particularly care what we call it Keys : drive, determination, desperation what ever….verve, even voodoo.

We just need an urgent injection of it now.

No argument from me on that score

It didn’t show in the win column but I believe we started to get things back on track after the bye. Still much to do however

I wouldn't trade up to secure anyone.

We've done our dash, we borderline said the range from 5-15 is even, now it's time to double down on that.

Not at all a fan of handing over any future picks to move forward a couple measly selections after we've already handed over pick 2, rioli and 40 to get to where we are now.

Cadman (GWS)
Wardlaw (North)
Sheezel (North)
Tsatas (Essendon)
Ginbey (Suns)
Humphrey (Hawthorn)
Clark (Geelong)

Leaves Mackenzie, Phillipou, Busslinger as viable selections for us

Suns may yet take Hollands or trade down to Saints or Carlton who aren’t likely to be trading up for Ginbey

Geelong might go Busslinger over Clark

Trading up makes no sense and as you say would be an almost direct contradiction of our reasons for splitting pick 2

Suggesting Bailey Williams could be a weapon at FF when he struggles as a second stringer ruck is delusional. You really are a nut case 😞
How old is he? Do you think he has the build to be a ruckman? Have you seen some of his marking highlights? He moves very well in congestion. His tackling has improved.Writing off somebody of his size and age so easily makes me doubt your thinking!

Interesting info thanks ECE.

There is / was, IMO, a harsh and stark, difference to our respective squads, Geelong V West Coast ...... hear me out.

The Cats older senior players, still seemed super keen to win another one ...... and another one .... the older brigade lead the focus and set the game day standards.

Whereas our senior guys after 2018 seemed to get complacent, satisfied and very content with themselves.
They collectively didn't put in as hard enough or as long enough on game day, now this piss poor attitude was ably supported by the Credits in The Bank attitude from Simpson and the match committee.

They ( being the Club, The Players, The Coaches ) can sugar coat it as much as they like, but the level of professionalism, accountability and application dropped off after the Premiership Players partied hard and sustained the festivities long after, the medals where Presented.

The: * Friends * Family * Flags. mantra, was soon replaced with: *Pats on the back. *Past Glories *Prams and Pushers. mantra.

What differentiates the 1992/ 1994 Premiership playing squads, was the well publicised attitude of the Premiership players who played in 1992, was their determination to get back to another GF so that their mates.... the likes of: Joffa Hart, David Hynes who has missed out getting a Premiership medal in 1992, got the opportunity to do so and it was the onus of all the other players to work together to ensure that was achieved
It's been mentioned regularly that the close player bond of season 1992, drove the 1994 Premiership.

Conversely, IMO, it's a real slight on the character of the 2018 Premiership Team, that they didn't do the work, the extra hard yards in the next few years to ensure that the likes of Sheppard, Gaff an Nic Nat enjoyed the taste of success that they had experienced.

The very fact that seasons 2019, 2020, 2021 and now 2022 have seen gross under achievement and a disjoint effort across the Club, shows that the burning desire, thats needed, to work hard enough for sustained success, simply has not been on show at The Club.

I do see it in the Cats senior players , however sadly, I don't see that same desire in the Eagles senior players.

The beat of the band is always set by the drummer and our drummer, has been out of beat for four seasons now.

As much as both the Scott Brothers piss me off, there is an arrogant defiant edge to them, that has to be respected.
Any who watched them play in their glory days at Brisbane in the three peat, would recognise the same tough as nails, hard arse, ruthlessness, combative style that they played with, being stamped on the players they coach.

Softness in a playing group is very difficult trait to remove, particularly if the leaders who should be eradicating it, are soft themselves.
Well said Monocle.Ditch the Family Club shit and get the Ruthless Club!

Note that Geelong's Grand Final side had 1 player under 23 - SDK who will be 22 next year. Sydney had 8 players.

Apparently he’s liking stuff on Essendon socials and not any other club’s so I think that’s a fair indication of where he reckons he’ll go.

I like to think I'm a pretty fanatical supporter, but following kids on social media for scraps of info is a bit extreme for me!
