Opinion Sack Hinkley 7 - "Turn it around or watch out"

The Titanic captain went down with his ship.

Hinkley wouldn't even launch life boats then get himself airlifted out at the last minute while everyone else drowned.
If Hinkley was captain of the Titanic he'd be telling the passengers that there is no need to panic, the ship had just stopped to take on more ice.

Has there ever been a coach despised as much but the teams own supporters as stinkers? Mark Neeld wasn't well liked, but he was also sacked pretty fast.

Not condoning the behaviour, but consider Danny Frawley had the Tiges in a Prelim in 2001, and the game where he was roundly abused and spat on at halftime occurred in Round 5, 2004 — a tick over 2 years later.

Neil Craig had the Crows in the finals every year since he was appointed as official senior coach (2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009), right up until he started 0-6 in 2010 and was being actively confronted and verbally-abused by irate fans at quarter-time breaks, a tick under one-third of the way through his sixth full season.

At Port Adelaide, 10 years in, Handbrakey McDonut got upset at a sticker on a roadsign…

Despised as much? No, he's not the first. But despised for as long? Absolutely not, because any other club would have sacked a coach this despised several years ago.

Turns out we have saintly patience. Someone should let Whatley know.

Just listened to this. Tredders makes some solid, if not predictable points about the club talking a good game and making some big promises (chiefly 3 in 5), and that for a supporter base such as Port’s, the fans can “see through the bullshit”. If you’ve had 10 years and haven’t delivered, your time’s probably up, etc.

His podcast offsider, Dion Hayman says: “in Hinkley’s defence, Port fans have to realise they can’t dominate the competition like they could in the SANFL”.

Where did this paradigm of extreme bipolarity come from?

It’s genuinely frightening that we’ve heard it out of Whateley, Kane Cornes, Rucci, and now another old footy writer in Hayman.

Expecting to win at least two flags in the new millennium (6 top-2 finishes, 4 minor premierships, 2 Grand Finals, 1 flag) = ‘DERP WHY AREN’T WE AN INVINCIBLE JUGGERNAUT?!’, apparently.

🤪

That language has 100% morphed from 'why do you expect every to win it every year' meaning 'every year' to 'stop expecting to ever win again and just be happy like saint kilda is'

How Scott defied self-doubt to deliver 'really ambitious' flag dream

"We put a plan together that was really, really ambitious. And to be frank, it was unlikely to work. The idea that we should try to win every year and yet still prepare to win a premiership in 10 years' time, hadn't been done before. It was unlikely to work. But if it did, how good would that be?"
Gerard, with the rest of the AFL media in tow, will surely be putting that deluded Geelong Football Club back in it's place. It just doesn't work like that in the AFL.

Setting our expectations a bit higher than zero GFs in 11 years under the Teflon Donut = expecting to dominate the comp like we did in the SANFL :confusedv1:

For me, what has caused my dissatisfaction of ken is the inability to beat top teams. We all know before the first bounce the games we have no chance in. This is not opinion it's fact, the numbers don't lie over a 10 year sample space.

Of course you're not going to win the flag every year. But you genuinely have to feel that you're a chance! With a strong list even 50/50 of those games would be disappointing. But Ken's numbers. My god, you can't defend that. And we are not unreasonable in having this opinion. It is NOT ok for Port to have the "Dallas Cowboys rep" (thanks David King) it's just not

Anyone who uses the 'you're not in the SANFL anymore' argument exposes them self as an absolute dumb f***. It's one of the easiest argument to shut down, especially when you list the clubs who haven't even made a GF in the Hinkley era. We're among a small and 'special' group of loser clubs. Makes me want to spew.

How to out yourself as a complete nuffie.....

"you're not in the SANFL anymore"

"Hinkley is trying as hard as he can, get off his back"

"Stop being negative and support the boys, your negativity is impacting them"

"Who else we gonna get"

A minnow is a fish, not a boat. :)

Anyways, it's a tough storm and someone has to get lost.

Oh, is that right?

Someone should send a text in for Dillon to read that Hinkley should be sacked on his birthday.

Man's made a career of being a downhill skier of a coach.

Today's newscorp sites behind their paywall:
Is Horne-Francis a future Port Adelaide captain?

Can anyone with a subscription give us the gist? Looks like Dean Brogan is quoted in the article.
Yes, Brogan was quoted. Brogan called out our methodology of movement into the forward line and observed it was kick it to Dixon and hope. He said there was no method. I now think Dixon is the most overrated player on our list.
