Why would it be any different to us sacking Ratts?
Because AFL assisted clubs only need to pay out 6 months, I believe. Otherwise the entire contract.
Unfortunately for Ratts, the former is us.

Whether it was with Carltons AFL side or their VFL affiliate, he had an uninterrupted pre season behind him.

Sandringham listed players do their own pre season, they don't just rock up on match day and play.
Yeah but we are talking about Billings who is supposed to be a seasoned pro and a number 3 DP and also supposedly a member of our core group. Billings base conditioning should be comparable to Caminiti's a few weeks out from R1, doesn't matter what postion differences are, the point of the discussion is about this BS claim ross requires a mini pre season of players before they can come back of an injury.

Furthermore there are too many examples where core players under Ross (over his entire coaching career) haven't had to undertake this supposed mini-preseason. There just isn't any consistency in that claim for it to be a true. At the very least Jack should have been made sub in the past few weeks especially in the context of where we are at in terms of finals contention and also in the context of there are absolutely zero options at Sandy for AFL quality players and Jack is far and away our number one choice, ie. next cab of the rank and should be selected this week.

No idea what Billings draft pick has to do with anything.

Again, you are comparing a fully fit player to a player that has missed more weeks than not with 3 different injuries.

How could his base fitness be similar to that of Caminiti when Billings didn’t start his pre season until mid January and broke his leg 6 weeks later?

At what stage in the past few weeks should Billings have been selected as the sub? He did his hamstring a month ago and has just returned this week from injury. It would have been a strange move to make him sub with a hamstring injury.

I have no idea whether Ross wants his players to do mini pre seasons or not but the comparisons you are making seem a long way off.

Membrey, who has also had injury set backs and missed large chunks of training would be a much better comparison you would think

He broke a leg in the preseason game against Melbourne and then did a serious hammy since. He's pretty much missed 14 weeks of conditioning. What happened in the preseason has nothing to do with his current conditioning. Lyon has said that he expects to bring the players in slowly because he expects them to do a mini preseason before coming in. He's had a couple that didn't have to start again from scratch but it is irrelevant in this type of situation.

I get the feeling he's doing a Plugger and enjoying seeing a few of us getting worked up about nothing.

Going overseas and debating the ripoff that is Watch AFL, but I'm a tragic so I probably will.

There was a hilarious reddit thread where some Carlton fan though we lose this - aged like milk given Yeo is out and Gov looking very unlikely.

We should be optimistic - we'll smash this and the last two losses really aren't that bad; one against a dangerous top four team where we missed some real gettables late (looking at Owens, Hig, King) and the week before we lost against the modern dynasty at the G where they turned back the clock and we still had a big sniff late.

Is it possible an international membership would be cheaper?

i think the amount was close to 7 million dollars but I don't know if that's correct but even if they have to pay 3 million then that is a huge chunk of change.
They have more money than anybody. Well at least they used to.

Yeo out is big for them, but Hurn and Cripps probably back?

I know we should win, and yes, I'm a bit of a negative Nancy Saints supporter sometimes, but with the uninspired shite we've been playing I don't feel like it'll be a great game for us. I do expect a win, but I see a Norf style game. A dour wrestle, and a few goal win. Which is embarrasing in itself against a genuinely historically bad team that's absolutely savaged by injuries.

We are insanely predictable and repetitive. Inside 50 to King. Out of d50 long bomb down the line (in which we ALWAYS lose that contested mark), or it goes out of bounds (in which we ALWAYS lose that clearance).

Do we not have a plan B? I struggled to keep the Brissy game on the telly watching us rinse-repeat the same crap over and over hoping for a different result.

Perhaps easier said than done, but just shift our view back to the first 6 or 7 rounds. Playing with a bit of dare and flair. Strong overlap run, running teams off their feet. Unpredictable entries inside 50.

Anyway, let's hope for a convincing win. Don't get me wrong I'll take the 4 points any which way, but jeez it really should be actually convincing.

A bit worrying that some Saints are seeing our game against a basket-case team, as a danger game.. then again many saw our games against North and the Hawks as possible percentage boosters. I hope Max pulls his finger out for this game, but it will be tough unless the whole midfield get their act together.

To lose by 170 points there has to be a lot going wrong. That reeks of attitude issues and deep seeded issues across the entire side with messaging and effort. A team with that midfield should not be losing by 170 points.

So the big question mark this week is can the Eagles get a response from their players following the worst loss in their history. You'd imagine they will have been read the riot act.

We obviously have a lot to play for as we are sitting fifth so I can't really imagine us just not showing up, which seems to be what a lot of our fans are worried about.
