I think it is true we now have a large portion of supporters, like your janus types, that actually don't really care for winning flags anymore but are just happy to be part of it all and sing NTUA at games while we are still winning enough home and away games to let them cheer the odd win.

If the team bottoms out again and all those types aren't getting the sugar hit of the odd home and away win, they will drop off and the club will be in real trouble. But while we win more than we lose, the club are happy to hold that line and keep those supporters happy rather than those that grew up actually expecting premierships
Agreed, good post.

The club doesn't care, they replace the stuck ons easily but like you said, when going to the footy is not much fun any more they will find other entertainment.

The "So far it's taken us okay" quote is absolutely perfect for a Sack Hinkley thread title, it just came along at the wrong time.

Two of the people I work with are Port supporters and they hate Ken's guts, we spent most of today trying to figure out what is really happening behind the scenes to warrant this 'stability' mantra that Koch is enforcing on the club. There must be more to it than meets the eye, almost as if they are afraid they won't be able to attract another coach to come to the club (which is ridiculous considering the list). It is truly something that warrants forensic investigation

That Bell Park flag has got more airtime over the years than many state league & AFL flags lol utterly bizarre.
Yeah, you'd think the fact that they can't find any better footage from his well-documented, record breaking stint at Port Adelaide would tell them something about their collective cognitive dissonance.

Why not use the footage of him getting prickly after the worst home prelim loss of all time, where he "wouldn't change a thing"? Inspiring stuff

Same CEO that said 3 flags in 5 years yet holds on to a coach 11 years on no GF appearances

Same club that Koch said they took recommendation from Cassisi 😬

How ruthless we were back then to move on a legend of the club . We have allowed a blow-in from Camperdown unwarranted free reign for over a decade and beyond.

Port Adelaide doesn't have a board with guts

Why did the Hawks sack Schwab
The number of opposition trolls posting on our board telling us how great Hinkley is: countless.

The number of posts on opposition boards clamouring to sign Hinkley since he was gettable because we were waiting until August: zero.

For everything else there's MasterCard.

There's that still shot of him addressing the troops in the three-quarter time huddle with that black face mask around his chin. That's been given a good run, i guess.

I would say it goes very deep, the AFL and look how the media push the Hinkley agenda but poor premiership coach in Bevo needs to go.

I'm convinced that everyone who reckons Ken's a good coach has no ****ing idea and only a passing interest in football.

Their minds can't compute the history stuff about him breaking records for tenure without achieving anything.

All they see is port making the finals occasionally, being non threatening, and not finishing in the bottom 4.

Even now you look at the main board and we aren't rated a contender at all. When we won 13 in a row it was all "Collingwood, how far?". We aren't treated as a threat because they know we aren't.

That shitbird korns didn't even have us in the 8. And yet he's been hinkley's biggest cheerleader.

They see the goofy country bloke yukking it up with the media ****wits and go haw haw this ken bloke is great

If you make any sort of analysis it's clear he's shithouse, but the media has utterly failed to do that because they're all pissing in kens pocket.

Clearly a media hit job because bevo fires back at them. Tom Morris had a crack and then the "liquor licence" tapes came out and ol mate was out of a job.

They played in a grand final 2 years ago FFS and once ugle Hagan finds consistency they'll be right back up there again.

The AFL along with the footy media are all corrupt.

Why did the Hawks sack Schwab

A couple of points.

Firstly Schwab quit, he wasn't sacked.

Secondly he quit when we were bottom of the ladder and odds on for the spoon.

Thirdly the early success he had (If not for ****ing Goldstein being the most blatant cheat in the history of umpires, we would have beaten Essendon in 01 prelim) was based off another Ken's good work.

Lastly he wasn't a well man.

Richardsons email was pretty telling in part:

Our football program is far more than just the senior coach. Yes, Ken is the figure head,

Yous should've stuck by him, after all he virtually won that prelim and had winning seasons all bar once. It was a scummy move to not extend him in his final contracted season.

That reminds me, I wonder which players were responsible for Ken's early success? Hmmm.

I wish people would stop running with this sort of line. The problem is not that he’s ‘shithouse’, or the ‘worst coach in 125 years’ as I read elsewhere here today, the issue is that he’s juuust competent enough to have us winning games to keep his head above water at each contract renewal. It’s as disingenuous as those in the media who talk him up as god’s gift.

David Noble, Scott Watters, Mark Neeld, Brendon McCartney, Tim Watson, Brendan Bolton… the sorts of hapless guys who got turfed out after a few horrific years, that’s unsuccessful.

Ken is mediocre, average, solid, whatever word you want to choose. He demonstrably doesn’t have the goods to win a premiership. But we don’t need to make pathetic lines of arguments that don’t simply don’t stack up to justify giving him the flick. It has a lot to do with the unhinged perception that this board carries.

Look, in the end, we have a bit of a win/win on our hands. If we he departs with no silverware over the next two years, the only record in tow being the longest serving coach without a flag, that will follow him, Koch and Richo forever. In fact, they may end up looking like the clowns thst they are in about a month’s time.

On the either side of the equation, if he somehow rides the wave of our young midfield to a premiership, we’ll have won a premiership.

Well said . We just have to roll with it now.

Over a long enough period in sport, mediocre is the same as bad. He's the coaching equivalent of Ryan Tannehill. Good enough that you don't bottom out, not much better.

Also I'd argue he's not a good coach anyway. What are his good qualities? We know he's not good at strategy. We know he's not good at gameday tactics. We know he's not capable of getting his team to stay motivated.

It's no surprise that our good seasons under Hinkley have come when he's had highly rated assistants.

He's pretty good at player retention. That's good. But is it enough?

No.
