I'm genuinely mystified at the amount of hate Ken's copping (seemingly without much support other than me).

Also I like Port supporters as a rule.

I've got a few Port mates and one of them can't stand him but the other two like him.

They say there is a vocal anti Ken crowd (they use a particular word to describe you all) but most PA fans support him.

Obviously Bigfooty is the bastion of the Ken haters club.
Most of the type of supporters who would celebrate Ken getting extended have been driven out of this forum so all you're left with is an echo chamber.

Let's put it this way - at the GWS game, when Josh Carr was shown on the screen, if you read this forum you would think there was wide ranging support and cheering for him. In reality, it was something like 5-10% of a 32k crowd. That's about how indicative these supporters are of the wider Port Adelaide fan base.

Or perhaps many more have already turned away from the club and from attending games?

That is included in the 5-10% figure. 3200 of a 32k crowd, 4000 of a 40k crowd if another 800 have stopped attending games...it's all the same. No one in my section cheered for Carr, which is why I can tell you what it was really like with no fear or favour. In terms of support, where a mark of the year or goal of the year is a 10, it was a 1.

TeeKray had a salient insight the other day - the club just doesn't rate courting the memberships of people who think they know better and are constantly bitching about this and that anymore. The juice isn't worth the squeeze. Oh, they will take on board the displeasure of a place like this and put it in the CONS column of re-signing Hinkley - I believe them when they say they listened to the objections - but at the end of the day when they are averaging 37k crowds and most of you have already dropped off as members, the threats of not signing up again next year when you didn't sign up this year are pretty hollow.

There's only one bullet in the membership cancellation chamber, and quite a few of you have either fired it or the club knows you won't. And even if you go, do you seriously believe they are going to have a hard time attracting new support with Butters, Rozee, Horne-Francis and Bergman on the team?

The club has moved beyond being beholden to the threats of a petulant fan base.

Forgive the intrusion but as an outsider it's hard to understand the vehemence that some Port fans have against Hinkley.

He had you guys within a kick or two of a flag in 2014 then came close again only a few years back and now you are top 4 and in with a chance again.
I realise there has been no flag but there are many bigger clubs around that haven't come close to winning one in the time either.

I can't say I've never called for a coaches head but it just seems odd to do so when you are having success.

Anyway best of luck!
As another outsider let me explain to you with the example from 2022
  • hawks have just thrashed port on a very significant night (russel ebert tribute)
  • ken states in the post match presser “I don’t know how we lost we hit all our kpis”
  • so clearly he has no idea
Yes they did well to almost pinch 2014 from us.
But he has achieved nothing since.
Bevo has won a flag and made another GF, yet is facing pressure for current results (which we made worse on Sunday)
Hinkley gets an unreasonable and frankly astonishing level of media protection

Cool so what do the members get out of it then?

In this dystopian view of things we are merely wallets on legs and hey if they do manage to jag a flag cool happy days if not oh well the boys had some fun <insert some Insta content here 👍🤛⚡

It won’t last Janus, the footy wheel inevitably turns and if the club thinks when it’s a 15th placed port vs GWS on a Sunday night in July the theatre goers will stick well then they might regret shoving those people out the door

The rusted on ones like us are the ones who carry through those times when everybody knows the season is on a hiding to nothing

I can’t wait frankly they need to remember why memebers are important in the first place

Great. And just coincidentally they've also moved beyond winning premierships.

It's odd that you seem to not just not fight against the lack of standards at the club these days, but actively revel in it. You do you I guess. Enjoy another prelim loss.

Or another insert <I don’t know why we didn’t turn up> loss

You all know the ones I mean they happen every year in the same way more than once

Better yet I think it’s odds on we travel to Brisbane week one of finals

Let’s compare notes after that game eh?

The club has moved beyond being beholden to the threats of a petulant fan base.
And in turn, has moved beyond the accountability that made this club successful.

So now we're just another South or St Kilda, having sold our souls to the devil for financial security, we're now copping the full brunt of the other side of that bargain, with the slider moved all the way from premiership or bust to totally risk averse.

Great if that's the sort of club you enjoy supporting I guess, but let's face it, you don't think Hinkley is a premiership quality coach any more than I do.

I’m almost hoping on a prelim loss that will save us from another 119

We are where we are in the table off the back of blind luck and games decided by less than a goal.

The GWS game was an anomaly.

We are short- at a minimum - two decent back men and an elite ruck.

Ahhh yes, the pathetic club that hasnt won **** all has "moved past" being held accountable. That's cool, man.

In a game where a home final in the top 4 is up for grabs, this was Ken's immediate priority, not talking to our young guys that played well. This is something Hinkley does after Port losses or is seen smiling while fans are hurting.

As much as people love to simplify everyone in to lovers and haters, in the real world its far more of a spectrum.

Do most Port supporters think Ken has had long enough and would have preferred Carr? Id say probably yes.

Do most Port supporters hate Ken and want him gone at all costs and hate this extension? Id say probably no.

A huge amount of the fanbase just shows up to enjoy JHF, Rozee, Houston, Butters etc. Thoughts of the coaching box probably rarely cross their mind except when its talked about in the media.

Well they exist to win premierships.

If they can do this while moving past a fan segment, then they're successful. If they dont then they've failed. It really doesnt get much more complicated than this.

I think it is true we now have a large portion of supporters, like your janus types, that actually don't really care for winning flags anymore but are just happy to be part of it all and sing NTUA at games while we are still winning enough home and away games to let them cheer the odd win.

If the team bottoms out again and all those types aren't getting the sugar hit of the odd home and away win, they will drop off and the club will be in real trouble. But while we win more than we lose, the club are happy to hold that line and keep those supporters happy rather than those that grew up actually expecting premierships

Your stand alone as a Vic club supporter. The rest just follow the Vic media whitewash of the Hinkley tenure.

It really beggers belief! Unsigned for 95% of this season, yet how many clubs came head-hunting the great Hinkley? Zip, zero, nada!

Ahhh yes, the pathetic club that hasnt won * all has "moved past" being held accountable. That's cool, man.

Sounds very Heavens Gate to me.

Kochie was on the 5aa this morning but my eyes just glazed over to the spew coming out of his mouth.

The players are playing for Ken. We won a club record 13 games straight. We have the 3rd youngest squad in the AFL.
Lenswood's become an apocalyptic wasteland after all the cherries he's picked.
