Add in the shoulder recon and missed year with covid, it starts stacking up against him. He was drafted as a good read of the play but lacked the athleticism. Philthy and others suggested he had worked on that and was looking good last year pre knee. Unfortunately, as you say, seems to have hurt his athleticism and confidence. Skinner and Jonas really show that the game has gone past slow defenders, particularly our style of defence. Port probably land one of McKay, Ratugolea or BZT + the development of Kyle and Tom - I would be seeing if Wet Toast would take me, if I was him.
Sydney will get McKay where their $800K + largess helps out the AFL who will then gift North the No# 2 pick as Compo.
Where the AFL can then say, NO to North's requests for more assistance; that is, they will have Picks 1 & 2 (plus our first rounder).

For what it is worth, Pasini was named our best player last weekend,

I don’t think we target both Ratagolea and BZT unless we’re trading Clurey out and have given up completely on Pasini. I’ve got major doubts on BZT, third tall defender or not.
Clurey wants out but, but, but who would take him (he still has a remaining two contract with Port)
Hmm a left field idea, but is he a possible a chip to dilute the Save deal?

With a girl friend from Lara, the Geelong life style may appeal to him.
Where we would probably have to pick up a lot of his current two year contract.
And that's OK because the more you pay, the cheaper the trade chips become.

Another left field thought is Doedee, where the Crows have low-balled him.
He has a choice to return home or he just may like living in Adelaide.
Be cheap but long term for 2025.

Sometimes you have to pick players not based on what they’ve done, but what they could do. I feel McKay and Esava both have something to work with. BZT not so much.
We will not be foolish enough to match the Sydney offer for McKay.
It stinks to the high heavens alter of the AFL who are continual conspiring to make the northern teams competitive.

What!? That can't be true, surely.

Esava had a very good run of games this season where he dominated as a key back. Media were talking up AA for Esava come round 10.

He lost his way throughout the year and never got back to that level. He got injured and then struggled to even get back in the 22, then when he did, didn’t do that great.

Don’t forget this was his first year as a key back and showed some really really good signs. The potential is there no doubt, with another full preseason as a key back. Don’t let recency bias sway your decision. His size is also exactly what we need. He is a massive athletic beast.

Don’t forget Aliir wasn’t a star before coming to us, he was still learning / finding his feet in that position.
Aliir was a very good player when he came to us, in fact he got our attention when he pants Charlie.
The Swans always seem to have ruck problems, often throwing Aliir into the ruck.

And he did not like it; part of his deal coming to Port was he would not be in the ruck,

Is he though? It's not like he's an amazing interceptor or rebounder.

Similar spot to Clurey IMO. Not good enough defensively to be a main KPD, not good enough offensively to be a third tall. He's just a nothing player. If we gave up anything more than nothing to get him here as SANFL depth I'd be upset, but why would he leave Essendon where they apparently believe he's best 22 to come here and play SANFL?

He wants to come back to Adelaide for family reasons apparently.

He doesnt have to be the interceptor. AA and Bergs can play that role. Just needs to play on the 2nd tall and stop them.

Disagree. If you can't take the #1 forward and you can't intercept or rebound then there's no role for you in a good AFL side.

I don't think it's a coincidence that Ratagolea's best form coincided with the Cats' best form - a functioning midfield makes defenders life exponentially easier.

Same goes for BZT vs essendon. Their midfield gave up, and he got taken to the slaughterhouse.

With a good midfield, which we have, it frees all our defenders to roam a bit and play attacking defence. I can seeRat being quite successful in that role.

Esava was nowhere near AA contention st that stage and anyway putting that idea forward would have either been a moron or one eyed Geelong fan.

He also didn’t lose his way, he got found out as a loose man playing back being allowed to run and jump at uncontested high balls.

North getting band 1 much less pick 2 for Mackay would be such a massive rort.

Why would we have to pay any of clureys contract? He would be on cheap as chips wage. His salary and 2 years remaining would be zero problem to any side, in fact it’s a bonus.

Not sure where you are getting that from, he is extremely athletic for his size.

Athletic doesn’t mean high end in every facet of athleticism.

When we're talking about Geelong players the media just has to be roundly ignored. They'll talk up 10 Geelong players for AA a year. They want Gryan Miers to be an AA forward this year, he's kicked less than half as many goals as ****ing McEntee.

Tyson Stengle getting an AA jumper last year was a bit what the?

Pasini definitely started the year like he'd never played a game of competitive football before, but over the last few weeks is clearly regaining his confidence and is starting to look more like the player he was before the injury. High hopes for him next year.
I reckon Pasini will be picked this week, Burton subbed out last week and Pasini was named best player for the Magpies

Dougal Howard on the trade table apparently
