The way West Coast is set up the CEO needs to be more football leaning than commercial so Pyke’s commercial background is a nice bonus rather than a prerequisite. What it does provide is well rounded experience both in and outside the football bubble

There are people already at the club who could successfully replace Nisbett’s role on the commercial side and there’s plenty of board members from the commerce world

What the club most needs is fresh eyes over the football department to reinvigorate it without being afraid to tread on toes

His WAFL experience as player and coach will also be beneficial in dealing with and rebuilding what hasn’t always been a harmonious relationship. Some would say it’s been acrimonious

So don’t sweat the commercial stuff too much other than to acknowledge he’s a qualified accountant with a proven ability to establish, operate and eventually sell off a profitable business in a sector not usually associated with footballers

If there’s someone better, rest assured we’d have found a very good CEO

Yes, yes, yes, i can read the article. Trying to find more details on line it's very hard to find. What was the size, how many employees? Again this was 25 years ago.
Ya look, he's no Vanderbilt but you don't need to be a captain of industry to operate a money printer. The COO handles all of the commercial stuff at West Coast anyway.

As long as the camp was an aberration (and I don't think he was even the primary instigator there) and he's a decent man manager, whatever business acumen he has is a bonus and largely irrelevant.

I'm much more interested in his understanding of football and football departments, which by all accounts is first class.

I think you've hit the nail on the head here.

Our performance in mens, womens and WAFL hasn't fallen off a cliff because we're not strong commercially, that's happened even though we're strong commercially. We need a CEO now who can help right the football side of things, the commercial side will just about continue to run itself, at least in the short term.

Someone with Pyke's background seems a perfect fit for that kind of oversight.

We can't reference Pyke as DP...I'm way to juvenile for that!
You don't want one of these bad boys?

The other positive of Pyke which is that he has been familiar with the inner working of our club for a significant time.
So he not only will be able to bring in new ideas from other clubs but understand where our club is different and better and not throw the proverbial baby out with the bath water.

Mark Nicoski to depart the club's coaching group and move to the SW of the state to begin a role in the community department

One of Adam Simpson’s long-time assistants will depart West Coast’s coaching set-up, with Mark Nicoski set for a change of role at the club.

Nicoski, 39, has been part of the Eagles’ coaching group since Simpson joined the Eagles in 2013, having most recently been the development coach of their forwards.

West Coast football manager Gavin Bell confirmed the move on Wednesday.

“Mark has been an outstanding member of our coaching staff over the past 10 years but believes the time is right to take on a new challenge and he is moving with his young family to WA’s south-west region to take on a role with the club’s community department,” Bell said.

“His ability to coach and connect with individuals, to inspire them, and to bring out the best in them is a testament to his character and passion, and while he will be missed within the football department we look forward to seeing the impact he will make on the broader community in his new role.”

Also mentions that Kyal Horsley is the favourite to take over from Rob Wiley as the WAFL Eagles coach. No mention of Luke Webster departing

Nicoski joins fellow long-time assistant Daniel Pratt and WAFL coach Rob Wiley in departing their roles at the end of a disastrous three-win season for the Eagles that led to them claiming a second wooden spoon in their history.

Ex-Subiaco star Kyal Horsley is the favourite to take the reins of the Eagles’ WAFL side.

Wonder what Webster will end up doing if Knights takes over the forward line and Horsley takes the reins at the Beagles.

Surely not backline coach.
