Will be disappointed if Curtin or Nankervis make way for Smith or Murphy. Not sure where Berry and Schoenberg fit. Would be good to be able to give Cook another game but there is a lot of pressure in the SANFL. A good problem to have if the kids are being given opportunities

Would be disappointed if anyone makes way for Murphy, he was terrible in the SANFL on Thursday & his form in the AFL side was way down on last years output prior. I am all for him being in the mix if he's playing well down there but he couldn't hit a target to save his life against Port. Rewarding these guys for poor performances in the SANFL sends a shit message to our younger guys who are desperately trying to break in for a look.

Interesting discussion re: Cook:
Cook is 10x as talented as McHenry and Murphy. On that basis he should be afforded 20 plus games to find out if he's worth persisting with.
Not one poor game.
BUT

It's been all quiet ones except against North. Outside of that his best game was 9 disposals and a goal against Carlton, and he's averaging just under 7 disposals while playing most of his time on the wing.
BUT
Cook didn't get much of the ball on Thursday night, but what he did was quality.
Kane, 4 possessions total on Thursday. FOUR.
According to NS he's averaging just under 7 disposals.

Credit for the mark and goal, but I thought he was easily our worst player vs. PA.
Fwiw, I just can't see what 1990crow sees. Serious question --- what is it about Cook that makes you say "Cook is 10x as talented as McHenry and Murphy" please?
For my money, if it boiled down to a choice between Cook and McHenry, I'd pick Ned every time and I don't think he's much chop at all.

It's that he has an AFL body, movement, cab mark and has AFL standard skills.

Cook:
Has something
+
Missing something
============
TOTAL: zero.

Another poster talked about Cook's "heatmaps".
His 4 possessions vs. Port would create a lukewarmmap.
He’s 17 games into his career
McHenry, jones Murphy got/get way more passes than this

It was mentioned by players when he was drafted that he was the most skilful player at the club then.

Cook has a ceiling he is taking his time to reach, if he is granted 50 games I dare say he will produce a lot more than Murphy and McHenry who have both played over 50 games and reached their ceiling

The usual suspects, Sholl and McHenry, are playing well enough to be starting 22 at the moment. Sholl in particular had a very good night. Nankervis attempt at mark, going back with the flight in the last quarter, was terrific. Moments later he delivered the ball in to the forward 50. Fantastic play. I was critical of him after the Essendon match for his attack on the ball, but he and Cook, are worth persisting with.

I think ideally, Brodie Smith gets some game time in the SANFL and gets in some good touch. I think he can still offer something at AFL level, but not in the form or with the injuries he was carrying. Get him right and he could be an asset later in the season.

I would just make the change of Smith out for Berry, to be sub.
Mchenry playing well enough - what for the St. Bernadette’s u11s?

Are you serious?

How much longer are we going to persist with the insanity that is Ned? The guy kills us on so many occasions because he has absolutely 0 skill or composure.
He's so putrid hey. I love his energy and tenacity, but his skills are just abysmal. He's not crafty and quick enough a small forward playing in the pocket, and so we try and use his running power to get him up the ground, but he just turns it over anyways.

Time to move him to break glass in case of emergency pile and start blooding Taylor / Dowling on HFF.

We just need to hang tough & give him a block of games, rather than dropping after a quiet game.
When you say "quiet game", almost every (AFL) game he's ever played has been a "quiet game". The only exception was last week, against Norf, who are barely a SANFL standard team.

I keep waiting & hoping that he will have a real breakout game, but game after game it's "quiet" with only a handful of disposals.

Guess I don't write players off as quickly as you... as prefer they are given a proper block of games.

Not saying he will make it, but he hasn't been given a decent go yet.

Meanwhile we have continued to pick players without a high upside.

The main point with Cook has been his work rate .....lazy has been an apt description

Thursday's game though, Cook's workrate was excellent ......particularly without the ball

He's a natural fwd ....finally being played in his correct position .....with his undoubted talent, workrate gives him the best chance of realising an AFL career

I said in the McHenry thread he needs to go back and run run run and get first touch - find the confidence there for a few weeks
McHenry’s major problem is that he doesn’t fully watch the ball into his hands so tends to fumble as he’s already thinking of his next step.

A classic example of this is in the third quarter when he hit up Fogarty then went past and was given the handball back, was already thinking of who to pass it to before actually controlling the ball.

In 8 of his (whopping) 17 game career his had 12-19 touches, which is around what you’d expect given his age and role.

I'm not writing him off... but I'd like to see some signs of life. To date, there have been very few indications of a pulse.
