Oscar was very clever. Meandered around aimlessly whilst Gaff was setting up so as not to attract attention and then bolted front & center with his back to Gaff as he was in the act of kicking. Timed it and played it perfectly.

Good game awareness from Allen knowing that Gaff didn’t have that distance in him and that the kick would fall short

Turns out he actually got it closer to goal than I thought it would meaning Allen was in a good position for a front and centre crumb rather than a mark

Allen was probably in a good position for a mark of gaff played a full 4 quarters.

Everyone should have known gaff cant kick more than 40m these days.

In case you folks haven't seen it, this from the shinboner might pique your interest. He's very good at what he does. https://theshinboner.com/2024/08/11...eback-north-melbourne-blundstone-arena/?amp=1
Good read and analysis but they main point that was being made that it was all Nths fault and all by their mistakes that Eagles won.
Cripps had to be smart enough to knock the ball to Ryan's advantage who had to be quick and skilfully enough to get the ball and chip it to Allen who had to be good enough to mark and kick a goal.
Then you had Gaff running with the flight to take a contested mark on the fifty and Allen once again had to do what he did.
Yes Nth may have made some bad decisions but we were good enough to make the right ones and kick 3 goals in 2-1/2 minutes.

My brother in Christ, are you complaining that an analysis by a North Supporter where he breaks down the heartbreaking two minutes isn't complimentary enough for you? Take the win, have a coke and a smile.

I think the evidence of what we did right was within the analysis, but it's a North Melbourne point of view.

By saying North let our players get goal side is also stating that our players (Duggan/Darling/Cripps/Ryan/Maric/Allen) knew to be goal side and pressuring the ball.

By saying that North shouldn't have knocked it into space is an admission that Hunt did well to hold his position and not be drawn into the congestion to get the knock out from Sheezel (or Hough later on from Simpkin's soccer).

By saying that North made poor choices in clearing the ball wide of congestion into unpredictability is also stating that Duggan did the right thing in holding the ball in when he got done HTB.

Just not in as many words.

Thanks for sharing that Tony.

A very good analysis.
Boy were we lucky. Everything had to go right for us and North had to make mistake after mistake. Yes we did everything right, but we still did need more than that.

And as was said in the analysis, the last time Gaff kicked it 50m was pre Covid. At the time my best hope was actually a rushed behind for the draw.

You could reset/replay that 2:18 another 100 times and we'd lose it every time.

That was a freaking clutch set shot. Tight angle, had to take it quickly and on fatigued legs.

Also, very nice for Gaff to have a massive highlight after being the sub*.

Something that really bugs me - Google still uses the Tri-panel as WC logo, so both colours and design are wrong. It's been like 8 year since we wore that.

Just google AFL ladder to see it. I've left feedback, but I'm sure I have previously and nothing happened.

Every other club is right.

It’s a bugbear of mine too. Just reported it, hopefully if we get enough groundswell around it they’ll fix it up.

No, not a complaint just an analysis of the analysis.
And coke? No thanks that shit will rot you.
But the win, damn right will take that. 2 in a row.

I know we stole the win, but a C+ plus for a win seems harsh.
Same score as Melbourne who lost.

Fair enough......

WEST COAST EAGLES

Eagles fans may be celebrating just their second back-to-back win in three years but the reality is the victory was a “big steal”. West Coast were outgunned in the opening half but made the most of a North side that ran out of steam. The Eagles still managed just 42 inside 50s for the match – below their lowly 45.8 average for 2024. But in positive signs for caretaker coach Jarrad Schofield, it was West Coast’s deadly 73.8% efficiency inside 50 – up from their season average of just 48% - that saw the side come away with the four points. The result is the side’s first win at the venue in more than a decade to now move two wins clear of the bottom two.

In the votes

Oscar Allen may have had the yips early, but found his radar in a stunning second half that included kicking the match winner with seconds to play. He finished with five goals from his 14 disposals and 10 score involvements, and found excellent support from Jamie Cripps (three goals from 10 touches). Jeremy McGovern was a wall in defence as he blanketed Nick Larkey. He finished his team’s highest possession getter with 25 – including 13 intercepts which is more than double the next best Eagle.

Room for improvement

Jake Waterman couldn’t overcome his accuracy woes to finish with 1.4 – despite taking a team-high nine marks. Liam Ryan had a rough day and was singled out for a moment in the third term where he opted to let his opponent fly and mark uncontested. “He’s too good to just play like that,” AFL great Dermott Brereton said of Ryan. “You’ve got to dig in for your team.” Ryan was goalless from his 10 disposals.

It's because we got smashed in all stats except the one that matters: The final score.

Also shows how having high possession counts are useless if your efficient inside 50 is poor.

I know that's the reason, but at the end of the day it's a win.
Surely that counts for something.

We're away from home and get the same rating as Melbourne who are at home and lost.

Did Will Schoefield write this?

Good to see the Vics are taking it well :D

Worst finals ever? Why crumbling Vics may make September history
Sam Edmund started complaining about it being bad this morning on radio and David King just says 'Why?".

He was complaining about it the other day as well and King gave him a similar response.

A whole one season without assured pricktorian dominance, might be time for another one of these.
