Could be a slight injury niggle. Does anyone know?
As for murphy - yes he does seem to be a bit rubbish but he showed us again last week that he is just much better suited to playing on the small/medium forwards like russel robertson who he toweled up last week.
As soon as they throw a bigger...
I'm not so sure stokes is ahead of mcglynn, or if morton is ahead of mcglynn either.
In any case choosing who to delist is going to be very tough. Literally everyone we have can play.
Re: McGlynn: Horrid disposal
He is quick and thats what we need, especially right now. If he can do what clarke did and learn to kick within his limitations he will be a real asset but his disposal can let him down sometimes.
The similarity between his first season and Birchall's is uncanny. Kicks well, gets up for a good mark, can shrug a tackle.
Must move him up the field!
I'm not really fussed when he gets beaten in a wrestling match. That's perfectly understandable given he is generally smaller than the guys he is playing on. It is his disposal and the fact that he often completely loses his man that is the worry.
As has been said though he will be much...
Already better than murphy, both at marking a man and disposal.
Hopefully thorp can step up like this as well, which is a distinct possibility given that he was quite decent during preseason in a backline role.
Everything that people said about kpp's taking a bit longer appears to be true...
He's good around the contest but I'd rather have just about anyone else on our team delivering inside 50. Also can be a bit of a cul-de-sac coming out of the backline.
Did play a good game though.
I admit I used to leave early sometimes but I realised that was a bit shit, and that the most important thing is to support the team even when it is at its worst.
I certainly felt like leaving during the only two matches I have been to this year (port and essendon - I think I am a bad luck...
I think we are forgetting, or perhaps discounting, the effect of a very good midfield and the effect of successfully implementing the zone - things we seem to be lacking in this year.
If you remember the back line was thought to be weak last year, and arguably it was, but due to the pressure on...
It's amazing other clubs haven't seemed to cotton on to this scheme anywhere near as much as we have (although their probably spending all their resources to get players from ireland and south africa!). Certainly with how good scouts are these days and what is being said about...
I'm quite excited about the nab cup this year, but since we're serious about the actual season we'll probably bomb out early and I won't be able to see any matches with our promising youngsters!
I'd say essendon and north are on a different level than the rest, with geelong (on and off but definately on in recent years) carlton (will reignite again in a big way when they get a bit better) and richmond (always seem to play much better against us, plus they're just so easy to hate) all in...
Re: Renouf & Bailey
It was very crushing to hear about the major injuries to bailey and muston because they both seemed like such promising players that could both have filled a role in the hawks side. However I have faith in the club doctors that they wouldn't have kept these two on if they...
Re: HFC, Buddy and Clarko nominated for 2008 Sports Performer of the Year Awards
Being as unbiased as I can be I would say:
Buddy - should get it
Clarko - should get it
HFC - probably give this one to adelaide, but hawks are a very close second
Games with toughness ratings:
vs Adelaide (AAMI) - 8/10 - good team at their home where we have struggled in the past
vs Roos (MCG) - 7/10 - always makes us work for it
vs West Coast (MCG) - 4/10 - have to be confident this year against them away from home
vs Swans (MCG) - 6/10 - they're tough...
I never posted it here but I felt he was going to be delisted. I thought there was no chance he was going to be able to cut out his clangers and undisciplined aggression.
I am happy to be proven wrong.
It's good to know that most of our stars have 7-10 years left to play, and that so many haven't even reached their peak yet.
With some clever drafts and trading we could well be playing finals football forever!!!
I don't think anybody doubts that it would be nice to give the kids an extended run in the first team, as we all like seeing young players get games and develop (re: cyril rioli). However for this match against the 3rd placed team which, if we win, means we will go 10-0 and be basically assured...
...one he was a very useful cog in our mid-to-forward line and had done well ever since. A happy surprise and another reminder to give people time (*cough* ellis, thorp, dowler etc. *cough*).
C. young - agree. He is supposed to be in because of his kicking, and while it is long it is not all...
Let's not get too smug yet just cause we've got a few wins in a row. We're beginning to sound like geelong supporters, or even worse essendon supporters when they used to be good (I can't remember when this was though...so long ago).
There are plenty of players on their list that would be in...
I am shocked at the response here!
I, for one, am both excited about the match and also very happy about having five of our players honored with an invitation. In fact I had hoped crawf and sewell would also be selected, and was disappointed that they weren't!
Firstly it's good for our players...
