    Courtesy of Donvale Facebook, the 1996 Grand Final… the good old days when some D1 clubs simply hoovered up AFL, VFL talent and just plundered the best players from other clubs around them. Still goes on but times have changed for the better, hopefully authorities keep it up with further tweaks.

    1987 is the real date of the modern AFL coming into being. It was the first time in over 60 years that the league had expanded and new clubs from two more states were added. If you want to talk about the national competition, 1987 is the year that makes most sense.
