List Mgmt. “It’s a form of tanking” the Richmond rebuild

I would call it dramatic but you post stuff like this often.

All I said was you aren’t going to draft the best player which is unanimously ashcroft, and that the draft is a very even one without elite standouts at the top end. It’s a deep draft but not an elite one, which works well with your 8 top 30 picks anyway.
It's not unanimous. It took me 15 seconds on Google to find some alternative views from various opinion based ranking sources. Certainly he's number 1 in some eyes, but he's not a daylight consensus 1 like Harley Reid was.

How is this thread still a thing?

I'd almost forgotten about it. But the same olds trolling Tigers, who then troll right back.

People are just upset that after decades of incompetence at Tiger land, they finally pulled a finger out, won a few flags and continue to make good moves afterwards instead of going back to said incompetence. Fair play to the Tigs.

Tell that to Graham's free agency compensation pick.

Also while we're on the topic of poorly run clubs, you'd think that your mob would've checked that Chris Scott's new gig that clearly breaches the soft cap and is an obvious cash grab doesn't break any rules...
They did check.. the AFL approved it.

Jack graham wasn’t a fair compensation?? What the heck did you expect for jack graham??

Tanking is doing it on purpose. Richmond didn't ask the 4 players to leave. We are however making the best of the situation. No doubt the media will muddle it up "they cut too hard," etc.
The thing that's interesting about this is the difference in narrative between these 4 leaving and Brisbane's Go Home 5. Y'all are being criticised for tanking when one wonders about the coach-player connection since you've changed them, how that's going.

A player who is contracted who is happy where they are - even if they're at the arse end of the ladder - isn't moving. One wonders why the focus here isn't a bit more on Yze, why the narrative is so completely on list management.

That's actually a very good point.

Maybe there is internally, but interesting there's been nothing from the media.

I must admit, my assumption is that the club has had a mature conversation with the players in question, maybe after getting a sense of their intention to go home/move on anyway, and helped them on their way as they are comfortable with their longer term strategy.

The media are vultures - whichever team loses in any week they are all over them with whatever they want to say and whatever agenda they are pushing - they mostly just fabricate stories to sell clicks. Best not to listen to them and certainly dont believe them. AFL media is unique because most the journos have strong ties to certain clubs or hatred of other clubs or individuals and unfort they wield a lot of power
Easier said than done.

If the beltings come thick and fast they’ll light a fire under your club and whatever plan or process that made sense of trade week will start to get shaken by the constant barbs and back page stories questioning if it was the right move.
“They should have held Bolton and Rioli, and how did they let Graham go? Surely they give him what he wants?”.

I can guarantee they’ll flip from the very complimentary way they’ve viewed your trade week when the heavy losses come early in 2025, as we expect they will.

Awesome. Then we could see the bottom 4 teams tanking to finish bottom 2, to be able to qualify for the play-off game for the No. 1 Draft Pick...
Better that than tanking for the wooden spoon and fans wanting it as well. Depressing for us that don’t want to finish last.

1. Wrong.

2. Not an end of 2nd round Band 4 compensation of pick 42. Especially when in the same period plodders like Josh Battle are worth pick 8... The formula itself is busted. Tigers have been consistently shafted with free agency compensation.

The whole coaching thing in 2024 seems like it went really wrong at Tigerland. Teague left - pushed and leapt. There were rumours of the coaches pulling in different directions. So maybe Yze didn't do great. Or maybe the old assistants didn't assist as much as try to run the show. Don't know, but it seems like it was a sh*tshow.

Seems to be have been dealt with.

The players that left sometimes had a strong connection with Dimma - especially Rioli.

But also it sounds like the club took the decision half through the season to bite the bullet and go the full rebuild. So players weren't really being held in by the club.

Basically the club decided that having 8 premiership layers, Taranto and Hopper, plus the younger guys who were starting to hold down first team spots were enough to protect and develop a large group of draftees. redo the coaching group, the fitness staff (thank God), and rebuild hard whilst still having a half decent squad (if fit).

Something that really interests me is that the coaching issue made news, then went silent, and hasn't come back. Player movement = clicks and views. Some things are on the media radar and some things are not on the media radar.

Indeed, I originally thought gee that's a bad sign for the coach-player connection. After reading a little more, less concerned about Yze himself, and more the precedent Dimma set. Baker, by the sounds of it, has basically always wanted to go home..Blair spoke of him only signing short contracts, and that it was always likely he'd leave. Similarly, Bolton met Richmond officials wanting to go back home in his first year (though then did sign a long term contract), but has had kids since then, and probably feels more of the family pull. Baker mentioned that after Dimma up and left, it changed it for him. No doubt baker had been sold the loyalty, richmond man card by dimma? Then the way Dimma leaves and ends up at GC 6 months later shatters that a little..

1. Yes. He has been working with the company for several years now. He recently had a promotion as people do

This thread belongs in the bay

Completely derailed by coping Geelong supporters

Sad cases

Mate it’s been half a decade and you’re still writing appeals to the Supreme Court about Stewart’s hit on Prestia, Dangerfield’s knock on Vlastuin, and a couple of AA jackets that we didn’t even get presented based on your baffling inability to add them up correctly.

More like Richmond got fair competition while North and Saints benefited from the AFLs special deals

So what is the solution of stoping teams and more so fans actually wanting to finish last if they have no chance of making the Finals?
It will never happen but more meaningful games, which in turn would mean less games of the season because the shorter the season, the longer the 'chance at finals' remains.
We see now that teams shut up shop around round 14 or so as they know the next eight to nine weeks will not get them into finals contention, so why bother.

And fans should reflect this attitude by not bothering showing up if the team is not prepared to give it’s all
