List Mgmt. “It’s a form of tanking” the Richmond rebuild

There are a lot of players fighting for that #1 pick for 2024 but if you were to compare them to previous draft alumni I can't see anyone from the current crop being on the same level as the likes of Reid, JHF, Daicos, McKercher, Sheezel and Wardlaw.

I don't think I'm alone in that opinion either.
That's what I said. Not every year you get those super elite players. This year doesn't have one.

But the top 6/7 are all very very good. A step below the guys you mentioned. Don't see what the point of this to and fro is.

There really hasn’t been.

Sam lailor had some stinkers even in the national carnival and he is tipped as one of those 6-7 good players who might go no1

Try reading. Some of the recent drafts have had some super elite players - who stand out from the top picks in this year's draft.

To be clear, Daicos JHF etc stand out above the top 6/7 in the 2024 draft. You are trying to argue against something that isn't being said. Tiger fans are happy to say that there isn't that super elite pick this year. OK?

Actually from what I hear there isn't a standout like some years. But there are probably about 6 or 7 'normal' pick 1's. Pick 1 isn't weak, just not super strong. After that, lots of good players for a long way into the draft.

We've found the average Tiger twitter fan I see....

I think you meant 6 or 7 typical pick 5's.

Try comprehending and reading. As another poster pointed out which I also said along similar lines, this years no1 contenders are more like no5 draft pick contenders in previous years. You are delusional if you think there are 6-7 no1 typical contenders in this crop. It’s probably the weakest top 5 in the last decade

You realise Lalor came into the carnival having played very little football. In his own words he was 50% fit early in the season due to preseason injury, one of them a cricket injury. At best he was 80% fit (his words). However in his first Coates game for the year he had 34 disposals and best on ground from the midfield.

Similarly O'Sullivan had an injury interrupted season and likewise came into the carnival underdone and started the season as favourite no.1 pick after starring in his bottom age year. He might not have been at Reid, Daicos or JHF level, but he was at the level of McKercher and the other names mentioned at the time.

There is a reason they both had slightly disappointing carnivals and seasons in general for their talent, and it wasn't based on lack of talent. Lalor has shot up to no.1 contention pretty quickly because his peak could be very high, same with FOS.
Probably the worst top 5 in recent memory. Name a no 1 pick the last decade Sam lalor would be ahead of? Or FOS.

So what’s it to you? Geelong don’t have a pick so you don’t need to worry about it.

I know what you’re doing. Because Richmond has quite a few picks you’ve decided to belittle all the contenders and say they’re not very good. In fact they’re the weakest in the last decade. Just like when Richmond won their recent flags, you all said it was the weakest top 8 for years.

Just admit you hate Richmond and can never bring yourself to say anything good about them.

I have literally just posted in here because you’re here and i like pointing out how utterly utterly and reprehensibly shit you are at producing facts even though I haven’t made a single post about the topic itself

I have no idea why Geelong_Crazy or whoever it is has made 40000 posts about the draft itself because frankly who the f**k cares.

How do you know what heights Lalor or FOS would have reached this season but for injury. Both were injured or played largely underdone much of the year. You, nor I nor anyone else would know what their form would have been if they had injury free seasons. So on form you may be right, but I don't have the advantage of you crystal ball so I don't make such black and white statements.

Besides according to you (and others) Ashcroft is the standout no.1, so he sits with some of the recent no.1's, so effectively Richmond effectively have the choice of no.2 pick. One more thing, FOS has been lauded by most commentators as a special talent, he has every aspect of the modern footballer. For talk of Lalor taking his place, there must be quite some upside. Not many players get compared with Dusty and Petracca.

OK, so all the draft gurus I see and read who way that this years top crop are better than the recent pick 5's, but not at the Reid/Daicos level are wrong. You guys (trolls) are the real draft watchers. And the guys who seriously watch the draft are idiots.

Pick 5's from 2010....

Polec, Buntine, Stringer, K Kolojashnij, Degoey, Parish, Setterfield, Cerra, Rozee, Stephens, Campbell, Andrew, Tsatas, Watson.

The 7th & 8th best of that sample of 14 is probably something like

1. Rozee
2. DeGoey
3. Andrew
4. Parish
5. Stringer
6. Watson
7. Cerra
8. Campbell

So that is the median expectation from pick 5 over the last 14 drafts. You are saying that is where this years pick 1 contenders sit.

I don't think so.

the boys have got to come back fit and firing, as a team we need the tank to last four quarters.

Need the fitness department on their game and supplying the right service to the players. Lynch and Gibcus are key, we have some team talent hitting their big growth year and the draft will add energy and flair.

Everyone was pretty mediocre this season just gone as shown by the fact that even the rock bottom tanking team were competitive for large periods of every game.

That sounds just rosy.

Reality is the Tigers list is going to get very young and quickly. Young bodies can't run out 4 quarters and if a team is carrying several kids to fast track their development others need to carry their load.

So you should not be surprised seeing g final quarter blow outs and the kids running out of gas late in games.

Some of those kids will pick up the normal injuries and set backs young player get building their training loads and building an AFL body.

All that takes time. 2025 is going to be a bumpy road for the Tigers. Similar to the Eaglea last two seasons.

Remains to be seen whether they will turn out to be Richmond’s modern day Vickery's and Tambling’s, or Cotchin’s and the player who attacked a woman with chopsticks. Had to google that to remember his name, Dustin Martin. lol

I also wonder how much of Richmond’s player development played a role in their recent success or was it just a case of being lucky and netting sure thing quality players that would have risen to the heights they did regardless of their environment.
