Pick 5's from 2010....

Polec, Buntine, Stringer, K Kolojashnij, Degoey, Parish, Setterfield, Cerra, Rozee, Stephens, Campbell, Andrew, Tsatas, Watson.

The 7th & 8th best of that sample of 14 is probably something like

1. Rozee
2. DeGoey
3. Andrew
4. Parish
5. Stringer
6. Watson
7. Cerra
8. Campbell

So that is the median expectation from pick 5 over the last 14 drafts. You are saying that is where this years pick 1 contenders sit.

I don't think so.
Tbh it really is when you look at that list of pick 5’s. Happy for you to even compare their underage stats to FOS and the other contenders

How do you know what heights Lalor or FOS would have reached this season but for injury. Both were injured or played largely underdone much of the year. You, nor I nor anyone else would know what their form would have been if they had injury free seasons. So on form you may be right, but I don't have the advantage of you crystal ball so I don't make such black and white statements.

Besides according to you (and others) Ashcroft is the standout no.1, so he sits with some of the recent no.1's, so effectively Richmond effectively have the choice of no.2 pick. One more thing, FOS has been lauded by most commentators as a special talent, he has every aspect of the modern footballer. For talk of Lalor taking his place, there must be quite some upside. Not many players get compared with Dusty and Petracca.
Correct that you have pick no2.every season we have that “injured” star or two who could be anything bar injury.. they generally slip to pick 10-15 or if a real gun pick 6-7 for that reason. Not pick 1..

FOS is a very boring footballer.. but a good one. He is an Andrew brayshaw comparison. Well rounded player. Geelong was into him was the word at one point. But he isn’t an elite junior

Doesn't make any sense. You are saying pick 1 is likely to be the level of Cerra or Campbell. But Carlton traded pick 12 & 13 for pick 3. And North are happy to trade their F1(ev about pick 4-5) for picks in the teens. And clubs are lining up to offer the planet for any late rd 1 pick. But pick 1 only nets you Cerra or Campbell. :tearsofjoy:

Remains to be seen whether they will turn out to be Richmond’s modern day Vickery's and Tambling’s, or Cotchin’s and the player who attacked a woman with chopsticks. Had to google that to remember his name, Dustin Martin. lol

I also wonder how much of Richmond’s player development played a role in their recent success or was it just a case of being lucky and netting sure thing quality players that would have risen to the heights they did regardless of their environment.
Another insecure cats fan. Take it to the bay, flog.

I'm sure his name is etched into your memory bank for eternity anyway :thumbsu:

Wow, never heard him called boring before because bar perhaps Lalor, FOS has been pretty unanimously labelled the player with the most upside in the draft.

Is making the AA side in 2023 as an underage boring, (averaged 22 disposals as a 16-17 year old in the season)
Being the no.1 pick by most of draft watches coming into the season..Fox sports, But his VFL performance reminded on-lookers of his undeniable on-field class, to go with his explosive ball-winning capabilities. He’s not a big accumulator of the footy, but recruiters love his ability to change a game without having mass disposals.

I think he is elite enough for every other judge bar you.

Not going to get into another roundabout with you trying to explain why a club willing to part with pick 3 for picks 12 and 14 isn’t a good sign for the elite status of the top end of this draft. You don’t seem to possess the logic to comprehend that one.

And yes, cerra and cambell are about FOS level, I’d say cerra probably better.

I think the only thing left to say to Geelong fans after skimming this thread as a Richmond fan is

We are sorry
We are so sorry for hurting you so bad .

As a fan of meaningfully defined arguments, well constructed sentences, in-depth analysis and research, and actual facts, you’ve hurt me a lot more than Richmond ever has or will.

Go and have another session on the couch about how many AA jackets Tom Stewart hasn’t actually won, or check in with the other 50,000 Tigers members in your group chat to see if your still-going petition to have Dangerfield retrospectively suspended for his hit on Vlastuin will get passed through the Senate in time for the start of Season 2025

Keep it coming China, this will be fun to look back at in future years.

But curious how you can't comprehend how a club willing to give up hugely sought after picks 12 & 13 to get pick 3 indicates top 3 picks are as valuable as ever.

Do you want to post FOS highlights?? It’s the least explosive highlights package you will ever see.

Richmond are in a weird spot this year.

Seems like it's the worst draft in many years to hold the #1 pick but it's also probably one of best drafts in many years to have multiple bites at the first round.
Agree. Pick 1 isn't as exciting as some other years, but it seems a really good draft to have half a dozen picks in the top 20 or so

Hence the weird spot.

Uprecedented. But Richmond won't feel too strange about having their choice out of every player to nominate for the draft who is not tied to another club. When you essentially have 8 rd 1 selections then results from any individual selection matter less. The Tigers will just want & expect about 8 really good footballers from the next 3 drafts. Pick 1 2024 should be one of them.

you mean , well planned, strategically advantageous

Nths draft hand is weird,
Yeah I bet the powers that be sat down in the days after you towelled us up in 2020 and said ‘where do we want to be in four seasons’ time’ and a dozen hands shot up and said in unison “in 18th spot with most of our good players leaving.”

Reality is the Tigers list is going to get very young and quickly. Young bodies can't run out 4 quarters and if a team is carrying several kids to fast track their development others need to carry their load.

So you should not be surprised seeing g final quarter blow outs and the kids running out of gas late in games.
Used to it from this season. I think the only game we didn’t run out of gas was the Sydney game and Tom Lynch was fit in that one.
