I tell you what you need to be looking for in draftees for the future. Late game, possessions especially 4th quater contested possessions. Endurance is going to be the key. I mean it already is a major thing they look for but even more so with the new rules coming in.
The quality mids that rack up 10+ possesions and tackles in 4th quater are gona be hot property.

In the 1st half Billings and Kelly have been pretty good for Metro. Lennon has also delivered. For Country, Tsitas, Taylor and Hartung have been great. We should really look at Hartung for our 2nd pick if Kennedy-Harris isn't available. Elite runner.

See above your post mate...
STAR PERFORMERS:
Arguably the best performer for SA throughout the game was leader and inside midfielder Luke Dunstan. Dunstan accumulated 22 possessions playing on the inside and managed to clear the ball from the stoppages on several occasions. Dunstan used his hands very well, handpassing to his team-mates advantage with ease. Dunstan also showed his leadership skills late in the 4th quarter when the game was in the balance.

There more I read, the happier I'd be with Dunstan. Looks exactly what we need. Although if it came down to Boyd v Dunstan at our pick... Hooley Dooley... :thumbsu:

Boyd all day. One thing you can't get with mids - a guy that can hold your team together even if he plays like crap. He'll draw 2 guys at the VERY LEAST.

The old adage about a good big man always beating a good little man and all that aside, midfielders - even real quality ones - are essentially a dime a dozen when compared to game-changing big men.

I agree whole-heartedly. But the point was, it'd be a great problem to have.

I don't necessarily agree. Just about any player can develop a good tank just from hard work.
Other attributes like skills and game smarts not so much.

Adelaide's draft penalty was just for the first and second rounds. Agree that Milera probably won't bring us a pick and that they would get him in the PSD, but I was happy to stretch it a little and hope ;)
yeh they were. no first or 2nd rounder this year. milera would get us pick 60 at most
My mistake. Thought it was all picks.

If we managed to get anything for him, it would be almost like daylight robbery :p

Damn he's on the radar. We should have rookied him last year when only SaintsSeptember thought him worthwhile. Oops I'm typing in the third person.

Does anyone know how Ollie Wines got to Port at pick 7 last year. I mean GWS, Melb and WB all passed up on him. Did he have ordinary TAC form? Sometimes the best player in the draft don't go top 3.
2012 Port got Ollie Wines at 7, Richmond got Vlastuin at 9
2011 Port got Wingard at 6, GWS took Tyson at 3 and took Greene at 11 and Adams at 13
2010 Essendon got Heppell at 8, Sydney got Parker at 40...pricks. Melb got Howe at 33 and we F$%kn took Cripps at 24. lol

Excellent rebuttal. I bow to your powers of persuasion.

New game plan - Pick the 7 youngest players in the draft. The younger they are the more time they will have to hit the gym and learn the gameplan so that by the time they are 25 they will be guns.

Nah you're right, let's get Xavier Ellis and some other guys who never made it. That's definitely the way to rebuild a side

Hi Rahul,
You seem to have followed the u18 championships. Who won the Larke Medal and all MVP's for all the states. Also how did Nathan Freeman go tonight for Vic Metro? What are your thoughts on Alex Spencer (#34) for Vic Metro if you have any?

Leigh Montagna at 37 vs Polak and X Clarke at 4 and 5.
Sam Fisher at 55 vs Sylvia and Farren Ray at 3 and 4.
Gwilt at 63 vs Tambling at 4.
Gilbert at 33 vs Beau Dowler at 6
Armitage at 9, Selwood at 7, J Riewoldt at 13, Mitch Thorpe at 6.
McEvoy at 9, Steven at 42, Myers at 6.
Stanley at Pick 47, Watts at pick 1.

Its a lottery and it can be years before we know the results.

And to set the standard from the opening bounce is critical, when the heats on let's see who's going to stand up..
Too often when the games over, the downhill skiers pick up their cheap possessions..
Isn't it about a 4 qtr effort anyway..??

What's the mail on this player..

Darcy Gardiner (Vic Country) - Announced himself shutting down Jesse Hogan on the national stage last year. Competitive beast expected to return today. Should go early in the draft..

Would we be willing to part with Rhys Stanley & Dal for pick 1 (Tom Boyd) & Taylor Adams..??

We pick up two A graders & hold picks 3/4 & 20/21 for the draft..

Crameri is available, certainly one i'd be keen on getting to the Saints..!

Will we see an exodus of some Bombers, pissed off with the club using them as guinea pigs..??

Vic Metro vs Vic Country Star Performers:
For the losing side, Lewis Taylor starred. The speed machine from the Geelong Falcons gathered 32 disposals in the game and used every single one well. Taylor was damaging with both feet and hit his targets easily. He used his speed and acceleration to burst out of packs with the football and was on fire in the second half, racking up possessions. The best thing about Taylor's game was his ability to run and carry, the speedster received a handball 21 times in the game. Taylor undoubtedly raised his draft stock after the sublime performance.

Another great individual performance from the losing side came from Matt Crouch. Crouch played yet another under-rated game on the inside, winning clearances and getting his side the 1st touch. Crouch continued to play hard at the footy during stoppages and ended the game with a number of hard ball gets and contested possessions.

For the winning team, Mitch Honeychurch was the best on ground in my opinion. Honeychurch's attack on the ball was first class and he played a very big role for Metro in the midfield. Honeychurch ended up with 23 possessions, 6 clearances and 7 tackles. While his disposal usage was not great, Honeychurch's game was brilliant and he has definitely furthered his claim to a Top 50 pick. During the game, Honeychurch also created a wonderful goal from a stoppage, highlighting his ability in the midfield.

The win for Metro was set up by a fantastic first half by half-forward Jack Billings. Billings only managed 15 disposals, but it was the 3 goals in the 1st half that put the foundation down for Vic Metro. Billings lead well and took strong marks while kicking truly when he had an opportunity in front of the big sticks. Billings showed an innate ability to find team-mates when he wasn't in a position to score. That's 2 years now that Billings has stepped up against better opposition and he has proven himself to be a valuable asset to any team.

Despite not standing out by any means, Josh Kelly accumulated possessions in all 4 quarters. Kelly's elite running ability was on show for everyone to see, but it was his defensive pressure that stood out for me. Kelly laid 6 tackles and made many defensive efforts.

Other better than average player performances came from Bontempelli and Kennedy-Harris. Bontempelli had a stellar 4th quarter and Kennedy-Harris connected well with the forwards early on.

Hi Rahul,

Freeman should go in the first round, but his game today didn't stand out. He gathered some touches, but he wasn't really explosive. As for Spencer, I lived him last week, but this game he wasn't great IMO. He's usually a pretty good rebounder. The 1st round of my mock draft should be done by Saturday.

Maybe he wants to stick with us through the rebuild and doesn't even want to leave? Probably still has another 3-4 years left in him IMO that would be 3-4 years of helping our up and coming midfield. We are already likely to lose Hayes, Milne, Blake, Kosi maybe Schneider lot of experience gone from that bunch would suck to lose NDS and Fish maybe as well.

But i do get where you are coming from though.
Don't want to see the club die hards move on & if dal happened to leave he deserves a premiership medal..So does BJ, Lenny, Joey, Roo, Milney, Fisher etc..

It's a catch 22, maintaining the older guys to assist with the transition, or stockpiling major talent at the expense of winning games over the next couple of years..

My concern is GWS & GC might have a monopoly on the flag over the next ten years & we are all screwed anyway..!
