Jesus. They think Hickey is a spud. Please let him never don an Essendon jumper.
he didn't look like a spud when he had 19 disposals and 3 contested marks against them earlier in the year, nor when he took 6 contested marks against North and kicked a couple of goals (and could have kicked a couple more) later in the year.

How true is the Kelly rumor? is this a bit of wishful thinking?
I'd say the rumour of him meeting with us tonight is most likely spot on, whether we get him though is a different question. He's obviously interested though so if we miss out on him this year we are in a good position the next.

Talking to an Essendon supporter:

Him: Redden for 17 and you want Carlisle for 16? LOL

Me: Redden was contracted and has played 40 odd more games than Carlisle

Him: *Crickets* followed by (and I'm not joking) "Do you even remember how good the start of his 2013 season was at fullback??"
Jack Redden has 3 top 5 finishes 2011-13 in their B&F in 7 years at the club (2x 3rd & 1x 5th)

We should be taking Carlisle at pick 24 at best

Shit you not, in the business of running a club and trying to improve the playing list, when there is an option, no matter how faint of an option it might be, there will be one person who comes to a meeting and they pitch that option. If it's a Kelly and the rest of us think "gee he's special, but we've already indicated we're doing something different" it takes all of 5 mins tops and you drop that and work on seeing if Kelly works and what it would take. You do this because you trust the other person to not be talking out of their arse, you do this because in that trust; there is an option, and you move as quickly as you are able to because this might be a finite thing, it might be a crux and if it works out it's a bonus you had not expected, and in the worst case you get told no quickly and move on.

"No" whilst a powerful word in trading situations, means absolutely nothing if you're seizing an opportunity with such a pay off for such very little risk of asking the question/planting/reinforcing the seed/etc. Because if you land it, no one is going to remember that you said you were going to focus on uncontracted people, they will be patting you on the back and applauding that you landed Kelly.

That's why it is interesting, leaves the door open to suggest that Kelly and his management team came to us instead of us going to them.

And agree with the post, if there is a chance of getting Kelly this year, we do everything in our power to get him now rather than wait a year, where the opportunity may not present itself again.

According to our "top 20 picks" strategy, *if* we got all of Kelly, Freeman, Carlisle, and Rice whilst keeping a first round pick, that would leave us with 5 players valued as a top 20 selection.

That almost doubles our KPI, which is, in the words of Richo, significant.

Being a local boy its probably just getting him down for a chat to see if his mind might be open to a trade home when his contract ends. He's probably home with the folks in the off season.

If you are impressed bu Geelong's efforts, just remember...

summers sat down with Costa and quizzed them about how they ran their club so successfully.

So take heart, we appear to be doing exactly what they have done these past 3 days.

On a lighter note...

Q: How many Blues fans does it take to change a light bulb?

A: None because all they do is sit around and talk about how good the bulb used to be.

Just on Kelly, if he did ask to be traded could both this years first and next years first be on the table for Kelly and pick 7 (or 8)?

Perhaps fight for an upgrade of our second to a teens pick for Carlisle (obviously GWS would have to be able to obtain one).
Jelly and Matho. Still very keen to get the latter!

We're going to need to really rip Essendon and / or Pies at this rate.

Give it a month, dewah. People are saying he rocked up to training smelling of alcohol, another great character for that Rockets #culture!
that was said by the nugs GM, such a classy man.

In 3 words or less... seize the moment?

We would of already had those chats with his manager if he is there its because he needs to decide its more like a meeting before a player nominates

If he's not interested in a move this year, then it's a bit of wasted time really. Either your in it whole heartedly or not.

An ITK dropped that we are meeting him tonight, said some hints about GWS needing dps for academy players and then left us to it
Not sure how many picks their going to need with Collingwood sending over a first rounder and then some for the Trelore deal and Freo sending their first rounder and then some for the Mcarthy deal.

So pick 5 to crows for 9 &13
13 & next years 1st to gws for JKelly
9 to draft a gun
2nd rd this year and a "good mid" to bombers for carlisle
3rd this year to pies for freeman + some candy (pick or player)

Not so sure about that. Why would he waste his time now of all times unless there's at least a tiny bit of interest there. Not getting ahead of myself, but surely he's not just tyre kicking.

PUZZLE COMPLETE!

5, 2016 first for Kelly and 8

8 for Matho

Hickey and 24 to the Dogs for 11 and 30

11 for Carlisle and 41

30 for Freeman

Rice for 41, 42, 60 (enough to match a bid to pick 14)
That works!
