The trouble with judging team selection is you can only judge what someone actually did.

You have no way of knowing the results of trying the alternative.

Could be better. Could be worse.

Hence the dynamic of selection for a best 22 committee. You go through a hard draw at 4and4 and then win the next 2. They shut up shop and went for it. Bottom of the 8 again p. But that's what they did. Gotta get some more diversity in there even if it is a lower finish.

Dont know if you have played much sport Vader, but in my experience Ive witnessed plenty of quiet,demure and humble champs overlooked for the more outspoken,bolchy,loud,and colourful types or those that are simply well entrenched within the clique despite talent or form.

Having spoken to young C4EY a few times,I reckon he is moreso a victim of his own persona than not being talented enough or in better form than others fitting the above description . This says more about the selection panel and coaching staff than it does the player/s.

Dont even try to convince me that the AFC select players on form or what they provide to the side alone.I wont have a bar of it.

The main gripe I have about CEY is that he would be great if only he gained some aggressiveness: this is what is sorely lacking from his game. This has been discussed before, but there is no sign of it happening (like JJ). Perhaps the persona is a lasting roadblock to becoming aggressive, but surely it should be possible to inject this (no pun intended) with persistent training to that end??

But that's the same as anything in life. We're all judged by our actions like it or not. There's no other way to judge otherwise no-one would ever be held responsible for anything.

Even in the last 2 years, he has never shown anything to indicate that he'll be more than the 21st or 22nd player selected in the senior team. At his best, on a good day. Selecting a 6th year player on that basis is a wasted opportunity - any game played by CEY in 2016 is a lost opportunity for the development of a player with greater potential.

The problem I have with 21-22 is that it should go to a young player , so for me the reality is CEY needs to find that 17-20th spot.

You're kidding me aren't you, I don't care if it's the 5 to 10 th player, you earn your spot to be elevated you want form from your players, best form gets you in first. It's really not that difficult

Yes you would think CEY and Wigg may have had more of a go, but the fact we were kissed on the D when it came to injuries had a lot to do with that

I'm not arguing that Greenwood is better than CEY at this stage (or that he ever will be). I was seeing clearly Greenwood has more improvement in him still to come, than CEY. Again, will that be enough to overtake CEY? Not sure.

I don't disagree, you could be right, but he shouldn't be put in for potential, he should earn his spot that will help the club win games

And yet you continue to support the selection of Mackay, who's got 160 under the belt and at best is 22nd selected. Even then, that's with 3 injuries ahead of him. CEY gets his crack with only 1 person missing through injury, rest or suspension.

There are lots of definitive statements being made about who will and won't be 1st 22 in 2017. Fine to have an opinion--we all do--but calling players as definitely there or not at this stage is fraught with the possibility of appearing foolish down the track a wee piece.
I'll hang fire until halfway through next season. I think Milera, Greenwood, Knight and Atkins will all have an impact.

And they will all be given an opportunity in the pre season, those who can show their worth deserve the first crack at it

I dunno, Vader was happy to defend Mackay's club champion results despite them being well below what we ought to expect from a 150 gamer.
