He's not a bust yet, he's still on the list and his body seems to be holding up finally. He's a good fella Tom, I find it weird you said other players think he has attitude problems, he seems like a really positive person and liked by the other young guys, he said if he gets another go he's going to try to grab it with two hands and admits if he'd known how hard it was to get chances at senior footy he would have gone harder. I hope he at least gets a chance again.

Talking to a guy for 2 minutes at a footy function probably isn't the same as living and training with a guy 7 times a week. Just saying. As for being a great guy well I wouldn't have a clue but plenty of great guys have attitude problems. I don't see what that has to do with anything. He also may be liked by 100's of people but again I don't get what that has to do with an attitude problem. As I said I am only saying what I heard off a very good source. Better than speaking to a player at a function.

I hope he is the best CHB we have had since Sam Fisher was at his best.

Can we get a general rule to ban any and all talk about Tom Lee until at least half way through the season?
Can I ask why ? He has been on our list since 2013, surely we can discuss the Good and Bad on a Forum. Been on our List since 2013 played a hand full of games and has a body that doesn't seem to be able to stand the rigours of AFL footy and is at his 2nd club. How much longer do you give him ?

I think we can all agree that we all want him to succeed. We can also all agree that he has to show something this year to get a contract renewal.

I personally like him as a backup in case of injury but am keen for him to start demanding a spot as the talent is there....

Lordy lordy... Imagine having Carlisle, Goddard AND Hurley all capable of playing at both ends...

Talk about flexibility in our structures and match ups!

And the oldest would be Hurley at only 27 in June 2017...

If Hurley came for free (trade wise) I'd be rapt to get him, but I think it's a long shot this year. Even if he did decide to walk out I expect a trade to get done similar to Ryder. We need all our high draft picks for mids from now on IMO, but Hurley would be a sneaky bonus if it did happen to come off. I won't be holding my breath though.

Robbo on Hurley and Essendon contracts

It is unlikely that the AFL will allow multiple players to cancel their contracts at Essendon and leave the club as free agents without compensation after serving their 12-month drugs ban, says Mark Robinson.

Twelve players at the Bombers are serving bans for their part in the supplements saga and the club is facing the prospect of them filing a request to the league’s grievance tribunal to have their contracts waived if they wish to leave.

“Clubs are aware and player managers are aware and Essendon are aware, even though Essendon have denied that they can do it,” said Robinson on SEN radio.

“This is going to get really, really complex. Essendon don’t think, in my understanding, Essendon don’t believe that these players can walk from the club.

“Now there’s people at the Players Association saying hmmm I don’t know about that.”

Speculation is already surrounding key defender Michael Hurley with talk that Richmond will prepare to offer him a lucrative contract if he wishes to leave the Bombers.

“My belief is that Michael Hurley will probably be at Essendon,” said Robinson.

“But there’s people who say he was 100 per cent six weeks ago, but he’s not 100 per cent anymore. Because life changes, thinking comes in.

“Now I think that Jobe Watson’s going to stay. No doubt I think Dyson Heppell is going to stay.”

It would be catastrophic if senior players such as Heppell, Hooker or Hurley left the Bombers and it would set the club back even further than the ramifications of their supplements program from 2012.

“If a player decides I want to leave, there’s this avenue. And if that avenue happens, I’ll give you my opinion rather that what’s going to happen because it’s very complex,” explained Robinson.

“Will the AFL you think allow 12 players, for example, to become de-listed free agents and walk out on that football club. Because you reckon the suspension – do you think the suspension of 12 players this year has hurt the club? No doubt.

“If six of those players could walk out of the club for nothing and they don’t get any draft picks back they walk out for free.

“You reckon Essendon are down for eight years, Essendon will be down for 15. Now does the AFL want that?”

Gawd.... Image negotiating with that peanut again if we had to trade for Hurley.

Because its useless back and forth arguing thats been going on for a couple of months now with no resolution and has put several topics rapidly off topic?

Just watching the A league, Melbourne city have been terrible for years but got one guy in who has become the driver for the whole squad. Fornaroli is that for them but who do we think might be that Dangerfield for Geelong style of great white hope? I'm hoping Billings might just carry us or Freeman once he comes in. I think Wingard is that guy for Port if we can get a freak it can almost carry the belief and catapult us up the ladder.

Confidence is a powerful thing but I think it'll need to come from more than one person. We'll need a group of the young blokes to lift. To some extent if it's Billings it'll be expected - we need a little x-factor.

Difference is there are 18 players on the field compared to 11. Each individual player in soccer plays a comparatively bigger role in their teams success. And Melbourne City wouldn't be where they are without Aaron Mooy and to a lesser extent Thomas Sorensen, Patrick Kisnorbo and Harry Novillo.

City's success this season is far from a one man show and it's even less so in footy.

I know what you are saying but city has had good squads before but they just couldn't seem to jell. I reckon a player can arrive and lift the rest. Joel Selwood walked into Geelong and they took off, Daisy Thomas at the Pies etc all lifted their squads on the back of individual excellence. Anyway my son has followed Heart City for ages and it was like we were doomed to watching losing teams. I find soccer much less boring once they started winning. It's got me hyped about the saints climbing back up the ladder and it reminds me of those days Riewoldt and Del etc were coming through and you could feel real momentum growing. Unfortunately Fornarolli is too good for A league and I can't see how we keep him long term but the legacy might remain.

Ideally we'd like some more absolute A graders in our team, and we will probably need more top end talent if we're going to win a premiership, but I reckon only in extremely rare circumstances are those players capable of winning a match almost single handedly. Fact is, we had as good top end talent as any club back in 09/10, but as we all know, we were let down by the comparative weakness of our bottom six or so players. This time around that shouldn't be an issue. Perhaps we might be able to perform to that really high standard with a more even contribution across the board and lack of absolute standouts.

I wouldn't be ruling Tommy out of playing next week either.
I know every club has whipping boys but I am certain Tommy has the talent, all he needs is his body to stay healthy and then be given opportunity.
I think our backline will be a lot stronger next week if Lee is there to help Fisher and Dempster.
I really rate Tom Lee, think he has alot of talent and ideally think he should be able to play our third tall role.

Lastly as ghost said, he is a favourite whipping boy of our fans, however it isnt very often the Pelican brings a player on a list that isnt talented. Lee could be anything - he just needs some luck to fall his way.

He isn't in our top 2 from what i have heard, However i will say this about our Free agency/trade targets. IF free agency was tomorrow, i would be confident(80%) that Hurley would be a saint.

Whatever it takes
