Lol, what a load of dribble.

You'd retire off Rooey and Joey and it's unfortunate that they'll go around again? Lmao. The guys who won us the Brisbane game. Riewoldt is one of the best players in the comp and is fine to keep going.

Dangerfield was coming home to Geelong only. Rockliff, Martin, Fyfe aren't in that situation. Nor is it realistic to get 2 off them and a Giant as you say.
Exactly right Geelong were just fortunate of where Dangerfield came from and that it was guaranteed to be to them that's pure luck. Wish Fyfe would come to saints or bust to be at Moorabbin and surf on the peninsula in a suit.

just on the melbourne discussion, theyve had some pretty big injuries come out of last nights game. theyre gonna struggle over the next month or so
They barely had an injury last year so it should show just how much depth they really do have.

We've pretty much had all our midfield 'bulls' out all year already & lost Roo for an important interstate game. I'm actually quite impressed we haven't been blown away by 50+ points in some games

Gett
Elite mids would be better though. I think we have a few that will eventually be better than him.
getting Zaka wouldn't stop us from pursuing a Fyfe or Kelly I don't think

Besides the fact that Melbourne has beaten us once, there is nothing that suggests they are ahead of us. They sit 2 and 3 exactly the same as us after finishing comfortably below us last year and being beaten by us comfortably twice.

They also don't have the luxury of two high draft picks and a shit load of cash to bring in a FA.

Yes there midfield has some potential no doubt, but our forward and back lines are well ahead as units.

Melbourne have not done anything yet, just like us. And I predict they will finish fairly close to us on the ladder again.

At the risk of sounding trite, but if Saints had Dangerfield and Selwood in our team (the ultimate hypothetical) then we are a top 6 team on the imminent rise.

It's amazing what 2-3 A-grade mids would do for us. Players like Steel and Acres may become those players, but an additional 2-3 on top of that would have us cherry ripe in 12-24 months.

What is clear now is our style of play, frenzied and unrelenting, is taking its toll later in games against top opposition (ie. Eagles and Cats). We can hold out against mid-tier teams like Collingwood, but the better teams are able to get hold of us when we tire at the end.

An additional 12-24 months of fitness and preparation will have us able to sustain this style while executing the skills necessary to succeed. The timing is fine if we can draft 2 elite young mids who can settle and develop in an emerging team.

Our backline is fine. Another intercepting defender is all we need. Maybe more improved kicking skills as well.

Our forward will be fine. I actually think Battle will go past Bruce in a few years and Marshall will entrench himself as a rucking forward. Long will be a very good player. Maybe a crumbing forward is an issue with the jury still out on Lonie.

Membrey is a gun, he reminds a bit of Jason Heatley. A leading mobile player who is normally a beautiful kick and could push into the midfield. I can see Bruce making way in the future, while McCartin should make it but he has to get cracking and work harder.

I think we are ahead of Melbourne. Easily. Their midfield has more elite class than ours but that can change in one draft and one trading period. I saw Melbourne play last night and what is clear is they are soft. When the heat was on they only had 2 players who would get the hard ball in-and-under. Jones and Viney. The rest went missing.

Interesting reading the views of others. But we are 3-4 elite mids short (we may have a couple already) and 12-24 months of fitness to execute a style of play that will win big finals. Our time is closer to 2020 than now.
