I thought against Collingwood it was the best a backline of ours had performed as a group since probably the Lyin years.

Our biggest issues by far have been the midfield (and getting smashed in the ruck against Melb and Coll) and our terrible kicking for goal. And running out of steam late against the better sides we've played. West Coast had 50 more disposals than us in the last and Geelong a whopping 70 more. Our pressure took a big dive after 1/4 time against Melb and they outscored us by 50+ from that point on.

Yes yes and yes .The midfield problem is as much a ruck problem as anything else.
Hickey didn't seem to have the same spark early in the season ,and it was no coincidence that we were being beaten in the clearances .
As for Bruce in the ruck , well it is really not his go .He is not aruckman and his game suffers from confidence because of it .As soon as they find an competitive alternative to the second ruck the better the clearances and last quarter fade outs will be .

Didn't we bring in Carlisle to play as Back/Ruck?. But Bruce went into ruck cause of Carlisle suspension last year. Bruce or Rooey could be sent down back when Carlisle is rucking. Bringing in either Paddy will be handy.

Fox Footy just said that GWS CEO Dave Matthews declared that Josh Kelly would not be traded to North Melbourne under any circumstances. Matthews said North have no players that would interest the Giants in any trade.

Sounds like the Giants are furious with North's public intent to grab Kelly with a huge long term offer during the season proper.

If GWS can't fit him into their salary cap and have to trade Kelly they will want 2 things in any trade:

1. Adequate compensation.
2. Respect from their trading partner.

Bitterness and anger are bubbling to the surface. North's public intent has backfired spectacularly.

I think GWS accepted slight 'unders' for Steele but were happy to complete the trade because of the professional way the two clubs negotiated with each other.

St Kilda never publicly made their desire to trade for Steele, and Steele never declared his interest in St Kilda, until after GWS completed their season. I think that is very important.

A new franchise like GWS craves respect from their football peers. They know they will lose some elite talent, the smart clubs will deal courteously and confidentially.

GWS doesn't like a club like North leaking to the media that they intend to recruit one of their best young players on a huge long term contract during the season. I'd be ropable if another club did that to us. It is disrespectful and intended to destabilise.

If Kelly wants to return to Melbourne to play his football there is one less club that can win his services.

That is so not a nice thing to say about Armitage.

For god sake he played with injury all of last year and he is now injured and needs surgery. We should be thankful that he played through his injuries and not have a go at him.

If he leaves, I'm backing he will go to the Kangas. Good for them I'd say.
