Jofra Archer struggled in the second innings of his 2nd XI county game:
He followed up figures of 6-27 and 108 off 99 balls on the first day against Gloucestershire with 1-78 on day two.
His opening spell of eight overs went wicketless for 44 runs and included being hit for nine fours and a six.
Cricinfo page of the game is here but hasn't been updated, but have heard that most of the Gloucestershire team was under 20, so the 6 for 27 and ton were a pretty standard result for an international tier genuine fast bowler against a bunch of kids and the 1 for 78 should be ringing alarm bells for England.: https://www.espncricinfo.com/series...outh-division-second-eleven-championship-2019

EDIT: Scratch that, here is a scorecard for the match (with highlights): https://live.nvplay.com/ecb/#m5f3d4e20-f306-4243-b504-1c6dddca6646

Does Dean Jones still think its 'dangerous' that Joffa played after that second spell? Also he played for Derby just in case you hadnt heard.

Cant see how Starc plays considering all talk has been about strangling boundaries being the core strategy over there. Only change that should be considered is Hazlewood in for Pattinson.

Why drop Pattinson?

Only possible reason would be to manage his fitness, but I hope the rotating pace lineup policy left with Lehmann.
If he is fit we should play him. Nothing ever held back bowlers a decade ago playing if they were fit. The best way to stay fit as a bowler is to bowl.

Ok, why consider it?

A number of reasons

- Workload: The amount of overs he bowled in the first innings is the most he's bowled in ****ing years and we clearly saw how losing a bowler in the first innings can drastically alter the course of the match. You can say "back in the day they just bowled" but that means shit all for a guy historically made of glass.
- Conditions: If its a seaming green top they are the perfect conditions for Hazlewood.
- Strategy: They clearly want to limit boundaries and build pressure on the likes of Roy, Buttler, Denly and Bairstow as they pack it in if they go 20 balls without getting one to the ropes.

I would personally pick Pattinson but dont make out you're oblivious to the reasons they might consider Hazlewood a good option for a green seaming lords wicket

Read an article which said that England would name their side for Lord's tonight (AEST).

Possible that it may be a 'squad' instead - seems strange to name a side for a match 5 days out, when no one has had a look at the final state of the pitch.

It'll be the squad.

Well he is the second best spinner in the squad...;)

Steve Smith might disagree ;)

Badly want us to win this one. 2-0 before we head up north.
Smith IIRC has an average below 10 up on their northern grounds.

Get that 2 win buffer and I don't even think the bowler friendly conditions at Headingley and OT will stop us retaining.

Have any of guy blokes pushing for Starc actually paid any close attention to how he bowls. Some of you saying he has to play on green tops because he seams and swings it while others saying he needs to play on decks where he needs to bang it in. Unfortunately for him he cannot consistently do either and that the problem. The gap between his best and his worst is just too wide

Bang, thank you. Save ya legs. Hammer, nail, head.

Siddle, Cummo n Patto get to go again at Lords.

Look to rest Patto in the 3rd test for Hazlewood who I believe needed a kick up the arse and will come back a better test match bowler after losing his spot.

Starcs a gun ODI bowler, he's 5th in line for our test bowling lineup.

Point 1 fair, but if he isn’t injured and manages his body well over the next week until the test then why not?
Point 2 & 3 absolute nonsense.

It's interesting that Marnus bowled a lot more than Marsh in the tour game.

Maybe a sign the selectors see him as our #1 all rounder now
Or....maybe Lyon wasn't playing and Marnus was the main spin option.
