Would really love this trade to be done and dusted early as I think we can look at some out of contract players like Constable and Sier.

For me pick 5 for Daniher is fine, Essendon couldn't expect much more given his injury history last 2 years and the fact that unless they finish down the bottom and he has a great season for them they won't get close to that in free agency compo.

Trade the pick and get it over and done with. move on to other targets

Someone said earlier in the main board thread that we will offer an early pick, Dons will want 2 first rounders, nothing will happen until the last day when we get him for 1st+2nd with maybe a 3rd coming back which would have been a counter offer Monday arvo but Dons too stubborn to agree with

This trade will either be one of the first 3 done or one of the last ones done on the final day

That's got to include "extras" though, right?
Standard routine, 2 hours of Capper gibberish.
The idea came from me casually sayng to my wife when I was about 35 at a hoity-toity party 'How good would it be if Capper were here to annoy the shit out of everyone?'.
My wife invited him to my 40th as a surprise. Probably the best prank ever.

Has anyone met an Essendon fan that desperately wants Daniher to stay?
Most I've spoken to are happy to let him go- at a premium of course
I didn’t know any Bombers fans. Just lucky I guess.

My take on this trade and to an extent, draft period.

Sydney lose: Papley, Picks 9 & 25
Sydney gain: Daniher, Bennell, (Pick 5)

I think this wins the silly season as we’re retaining our first rounder (which the club has reportedly said they will not use...although that could be media drivel).
Don’t think we need to replace Papley, we have Menzel and Ronke for that role.

Not sure what’s going on with Jones but he could be replaced with the right mid.

Anyway, just spitballing atm
Agree with most of that except Menzel and Ronke. Menzel isn't a small forward. Ronke is but not very good at it. If Papley goes we'd have to look at someone like Taylor.

Geelong have stated that Constable won't be going anywhere. I'd be pissed if we havent at least Enquiries about Sier.

I can't imagine it'll be done quickly given what Essendon have stated so far - we understand Joe's decision but we want him to play for us in 2020. They're understandably going to dig their heels in to get as good a deal as they can. I think it'll take until the last day of trading for it to be finalised.

We've got a fair few other deals to consider or do as well. Papley, Jones, Cameron, Taylor, Knight at least it seems. Not saying they'll all get done, but the Daniher deal has got to not jeopardise the other stuff we have to do.

Didn't realise people could see into the future and aalready know Daniher isn't cooked

BF optimists obviously have more info than the club...
Well I presume that's why the club are going after him...

Not everyone rates him. Why is that hard to understand?
I feel it's pretty hard to argue with his talent at this point, it's really just down to his body, but fair enough...

We have Rowbottom, Parker, Kennedy, Cunningham, Florent, Bell, Heeney and Hewett who can all play mid

Ling, Melican, Rampe, Lloyd, Allir Allir, Mills, O'Riordan and Thurlow play defense

Blakey, Dawson, Reid, Haywood, Buddy, menzel and Daniher can play forward

Ruck would be Sinclair and Naismith
you put Allir in twice

It's also tough to put a value on Daniher not only from a trading perspective but from a club and results perspective.

I know a lot of people tell me that Tippett and Franklin are failures for the Swans but I'd disagree (Tippett more unfortunate case) particularly on Franklin because whilst we may not have won flags, membership has risen, the number 23 has been one of if not the most bought number since he arrived, individual moments of brilliance we got to see a Swans player make and games where he just won it himself.

I'm not going to say we should sell the farm to get Daniher but if we can get him on the park and he performs, we won't remember what we gave up for him we will just remember the moments he gave us as a Swan

I don't think anyone disagrees. I think the issue here is if Joe ever gets back to the 2017 version or is his body cooked? If he can't get on the park then we will ALL remember exactly how much we paid for him.

if we dont get daniher and even just lose jones and papley and have another nothing trade period, that will be remembered more

fell bottom 4, extended the coach early for some reason etc

we need to do something

Do you think that is worth the gamble?

I'm happy with extending Horse. We haven't seen his ability to rebuild so to speak. I haven't seen many games this year but judging by our percentage we weren't blown away a whole bunch so some changes to personal could fix the gameplan.

Thought tbh I've always had the thought you have the game plan to match the team that you have to put on the park. No point kicking long down the line going for contested marks if you don't have players built for that, you know?

Bingo. It is a gamble. The issue now is how much of our future we are prepared to gamble?
