He’s dreadful, had a good first year and if Tigers were not so injury depleted he’d be in the VFL.

He may come good again, but he may not. It just goes to show you should never rush to pass judgment on players so early in their careers. This board went on about Higgins and he is a good player but as you said, if we had him right now we’d just have an out-of-form small forward in the NEAFL, just like Ronke.

In 2017 Powell-Pepper was all the rage and apparently we were silly taking Florent instead. Jump forward two years and Florent is having the better year as SPP seems to be in struggle town a little.

his year is pretty identical to florents

Numbers-wise yep, but one is an inside mid, the other a wingman. SPP should have better numbers, plus he's just looked off this year, nowhere near as much of an impact, and has actually looked pretty lethargic whenever I've watched him this year which is the opposite of his debut season. Maybe just third-year blues.

Yep great post, you can’t talk who should have gone where until a number of years later.

Does anyone have any intel on potentials for Swans?

Early days but I've heard this year's not a good one for key position types, and all of the names being floated as potential top 5-7 players are mids (Rowell, Anderson, Serong) or flankers (Kemp, Young, Ash). I kinda hope things stay that way, because I wouldn't want us being lured into drafting a key position player with a top 10 pick when we could nab a quality mid or half back which we really need. Although this year's draft crop doesn't look anywhere near as concrete as last year's "superdraft."

Could the Swans be into Nic Natanui as the big fish this off season? Article on AFL website was saying he has a 3 year contract in front of him which implies he is yet to sign on. I know he is coming off 2 knee reco's and extremely unlikely to leave the Eagles but how dynamic would he make the Swans if they could poach him and he remained fit?

Great thought. Class ruckmen are benefitting from 666. NicNat's ruckwork and contest when the ball hits the ground would suit our style of play. Even his dodgy kicking would fit well with most of the team.

(The melts from the Weasels and Vic clubs would be enormous.)

Not sure what sort of coin he would get at the Weasels. He may not be getting as big an offer this time, given the footy he has missed.

On the flipside he would already be a multimillionaire so may be happy to take a salary haircut.

The Weasels home ground is not great for big blokes and presents an injury list. Without the rugger and leeeeg games being played there, the SCG will return to being a great surface. A move to Sydney would also see him re-united with Cox. That might have appeal.

Though he would solve a need, if we are after a big fish id prefer one younger than 29 and a little less injury prone, not to diminish his achievements.

Kemp is not a flanker.

Would love this as he’s my fav game player but being a West Aussie guy I just can’t see it. Stranger things though....

Nic Nat is an out and out gun. Loved his play for years. But to get him over here would cost some $$ and at 29 with two knees I'd pass.

Getting Nic Nat now is the sort of trade you'd do if you were in the premiership window, or will be in the next year or two. We are not.

Our KP player is likely to come via an academy selection in Rayner, who will be past our first pick.

I suspect the Swans rise up the ladder would be immediate within a season enabling them to again be challenging for a premiership if a dominant ruckman was able to be acquired. It would enable Sinclair to play forward with Reid, Buddy and the mid to smaller forward types like Menzel, Hayward and Papley roaming the crumbs.

Heeney could then transition into midfield as he wouldn't have to play tall in forward line to create a contest. Jones, Parker and Kennedy would become so much more effective and be able to structure up offensively in clearances and stoppages.

Probably no more than wishful thinking, although stranger things have happened with the Swans previously (e.g. Buddy).

I think you may have been correct 12 months ago, but he is playing well below that form.
His TAC Cup games weren't flash, and he looked off the pace vs Vic Country.
His NEAFL form has also been sub par.
KP Swan's pick, in my opinion, will be Ellam!

Yeah Rayner quite underwhelming, so underwhelming that I don’t think he’s played.

Are you sure he has played NEAFL?

Was named in our extended best for 3 of the 6 NAB U18 games that he played.

Form wise has not been as good this year but is playing CHB which is a switch from forward and with no school this year (finished year 12 last year) I get the feeling the club is working on other things such as fitness, structures, defensive work in preparation for next year already.

Ellam is also likely as a rookie, but I am not sure there is as much upside to him when you take him out of juniors and plonk him in senior football.

He was originally a backman through 16s etc, and was really good.
I would think 196cm and 105kg would stand Ellam in pretty good stead.
If he can find his kicking accuracy again, I would assume he would be higher in the pecking order than Rayner.
