Would you grab Paddy Ryder who wants a 2 year deal. I know he is 31 but he will come cheap and let us play Lobb at FF. Is 2 years of Ryder better than Meek? If we are going on another 3 year rebuild (and lose Fyfe, Mundy and Walters) at the end then no but if we think we can overcome the injuries and be top 4 next year then yes.

Have you heard of Sean Darcy? He is the guy who towelled Ryder up in round 13, we should get him

Did someone suggest pick 5 and 6 for Kelly? Not even Jay Clark and his expert reckon that. Last years 5 and 6 picks, for example, were Rozee and Max King, both of which have already shown their seriously impressive future worth to their respective teams. However, now that Ross and Sandi have gone, and Geelong's need for a long term ruck solution, I wouldn't be surprised to see Darcy make the decision for us so only one pick will be required anyway.:'(

Kill to be a fly on the wall. Which players are happy ross is gone. Which players miss him.
Walter's looked up to him that is for sure.

You can tell on Instagram. It’s not the likes/non likes from the players but the likes/non likes from their families/partners.

To match a free agency deal they only need to show that they can fit the total value inside the length of the deal.

Take Freo as an example. If Stephen Hill was offered $10,000,000 over seven years, we only have two currently contracted players in 2023 and that deal goes from 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026. We could absolutely be able to fit ten million in our salary cap over that period, we could put all of it in any of 2023, 2024, 2025 or 2026. The issue is that should Stephen Hill decide to sign with us the manner with which we showed we could match becomes the salary cap impact for us.
Yep this. In fact there is an article today indicating that GWS enquired with AFL for full clarification. They only have to match the full entirety of $ for the duration. If $5M over 4 years regardless of what is set-up in the individual years then $5M over 4 years is what they have to match.

I believe their enquiry shows they will match. Also shows to me they are very worried about losing him. Carlton will prob have pick 9 or 10 (Hawthorn the other pick). Prob for Hawks is they haven’t used a first round pick in years and might not be able to trade it. Hawthorn will also likely use their 2nd pick on Patton. Carlton on the other hand have had years of using first round picks and made it clear they have their first pick on the table.

Carlton or GWS for mine. Leaving GWS with pick 9/10 and prob an early 20’s pick. Allowing St Kilda the opp to trade for eg 5 + 2020 3rd round for 9 and 23. But no incentive for GWS because Sydney May bid on Tom green at 4 so Pick is a waste. It is Adelaide’s Pick 3 they will be after.

Leaving pick 5 for us if they want BHill.

Fyfe, Cerra, Brayshaw are all inside mids.
Blakely if playing in the middle, is an inside mid as well.

I am think we have our quota of inside mids, and really need some class on the outside.

For that reason, I don't want Kelly especially as we would have to give up a top 10 pick for him.

This is not to say he is not a good player, he is just is not a need for our team at the moment.

Do you have a link because I would like to ask a couple of Hawthorn fans their thoughts on the matter...

Sean Darcy leaving would be as big a loss as Hill for Freo because we have no plan B now without pissing Lobb off (assuming he hasn't changed his mind about being primarily ruck with maybe Tabs rotating). Would seriously need to cancel out Geelong's overs they'd be expecting for Kelly (almost a swap of players and 1st picks, not that I think the Cats would do it). Three years development into him, and he's developing quickly, we'd need a ready made replacement as well as a long term draft option.

Needn't be a world beater but competitive and able to play regularly, apart from Ryder who would even be an option? Tom Nicholls from Gold Coast? Hasn't played a game this year behind Witts but has played all year in the NEAFL, 27yrs old, a restricted FA and the one thing Freo could offer is regular game time.

Wouldn't want to pay overs for him but who else apart from hoping to strike it lucky from a state league? Or do we think Meek might be able to step up?

Yep, I think I’m in the same camp as you on this. He’s not the messiah.

Kelly thing is getting a bit ridiculous for me. Okay if he is worth two first round picks to Geelong I'd expect they are offering him a whopper contract.

Duncy for us to go over the top...pick six as much as we should go.

Powell-Pepper (2020) is definitely someone we should look at imop...there is risk in some areas but he is on the up and he may settle and be consistent...even an elite player. Bolton the other (2019).

Bolton in my opinion is the player I would target.
Less net cost, massive upside - quick, great hands and a goal kicker who can rotate through the middle.
He torched us this year at home, really would go for him instead of massive overs on TK.
Really like TK but not at the asking price.

Agree, he looks to fill a need for us.

Can someone provide insight about Jack Martin and Callum Ah Chee?
Are they good characters?
When fully fit, are they best 22?

Geelong want 2 top picks.
Give Geelong our best offer early which is not 2 top 10 picks and then cease conversation, they will then only really have to engage with the Eagles then and their bargaining will be severely compromised. Geelong will want to play us off against each other

need Freo spy on the Gold Coast. Jack has been good and consistent though a knee issue at present...very similar to Nathan Wilson. Callum has had an ankle issue and quite nasty if I recall, but has shown a bit in his 45 games. A bit flashy (some great marks etc) but very talented. Hav'nt heard of either having any off field issues through media etc or heard anything here.

I don't think we should get players that have injury history or might get over a current issue with us. Not worth the risk.

I like the idea of targeting Bolton as long as we stay in the hunt for Kelly long enough to make WCE bend over.

Isn't the Port ruckman (Frampton) from WA, what's he like? Is he an upgrade over Jones/Meek?

If kelly is going to cost a fortune why not make a play for Coniglio, he's a free agent. If i was freo would definitely be going all out to get cog.
Plus Kelly would be a bonus. Midfield of fyfe,Mundy,Coniglio and Kelly and with newbies in Brayshaw,Cerra and Valente, now we're talking.
