Maybe maybe not. Constable is behind some fairly solid citizens, no shame in his position on the list

He is a really big bodied mid with clean hands. If he can do the bullocking work in cunningtons absence and give Jy and LDU more licence to attack, great.

He's been there 3 years and they are looking at bringing in Crouch to play ahead of him. Geelong don't rate him.

26 turning 27 in Feb 2021.

It's his prime time now, and I agree that 3 years is a fair contract. Hell, I'd give him 4 years if money became a sticking point, he'd still be playing a full season at 30 then.
Got all the hallmarks of a battle hardened body. Came off a big isolation period doing lots of fitness and he got through playing career best footy without the repeated soft tissue injuries that have dogged him. 3 years, good cash. Sign him up now.

The point being you offer a contract that gets the player to nominate you and you trade the minimum you need to get the deal across the line - they're not necessarily linked and nor should they be. Ben is uncontracted and clearly on the outer, I wouldn't be offering a first rounder either no matter how big my contract offer was.

Too true. Probably should have worded my statement a bit better. Contract cash isn't related to what they may fetch on the trade table.

Either way, I think its ridiculous on our behalf if we let him go for anything less than a top 15 pick.

Any half decent key position player that has been traded over the past 4-5 years has netted a first round pick and change. If we let him go for anything less then we may as well pack up shop.

2015:

Charlie Dixon, Pick 19 & Pick 49 for Pick 10 and a future 2nd

Jake Carlisle & Pick 14 for Pick 5 & 24

2016:

Cam McCarthy, Pick 7, 34,72 for Pick 3

2017:

Jake Lever, Pick 35, Future 3rd for pick 10, future first, future 4th

Josh Schache for Pick 25 & 40

Jack Watts for pick 31

2018:

Rory Lobb, Pick 14, 43 & 47 for Pick 11 & 19

I guess my point is if we are trading a 60 goal per year proven FF, then we should be improving our draft hand considerably.

As you have pointed out before The Cats are an old team and obsessed with delivering a flag for Dangerfield, Selwood, Hawkins et al before they quit. At least 12 of their best 22 will be 28 or older at round 1 next year. The cliff has to come even if they bring in some high-end talent this year. They are staring at a big hole in the middle of the list like we are dealing with now.

The bloke will die for you.

You don't leave him outside the tent.

Okay, the fact that they are an old list also tells me that they would shoehorn anything they saw as capable talent on their list in to their starting 22, yet at 21 years of age thay haven't included Constable, nor are they looking to consider him as an option for the foreseeable future.

It's not as if it's a physical development thing either, he's bigger than Selwood, Stevens and Simpson.

Helmets on people. There is no nice way to do this now.

This is the Trade thread, so I take everything literally... So are you trying to say we're making a play for Caleb Daniel or Angus Brayshaw?

Pickering is always going to back his client.

Perhaps Jade was just a very overrated assistant coach and admin stuffed up badly by appointing him?

Pretty sure the good judges were all over this and the Rivers appointment pre-season.

No surprises they have been shown to be of little to no value. Why anyone would want to take learnings from the MFC is beyond me.

Anyway, it's done. There's really no point in revisiting it any longer. Best of luck to Jade in his future pursuits.

I don’t think it is. That is the narrative we are building for ourselves to justify the illogical position we are in. Every player would have some back and forth on $. I am sure it could have been resolved.

North have decided they don’t want Brown because of the way he plays.

And that's their call so we will see how the alternative looks

I reckon its pretty apparent we'll be targeting talented young players who come cheap but still have significant upside in order to fill out our list. The names who stand out to me in this mould are Will Brodie, Peter Wright, Charlie Constable, Quinton Narkle, and Cedric Cox, although I'm sure there are others out there. All of them are likely available, would potentially add something we lack, and are in the right age bracket for our list.

So Saad is worth Pick 7 as a nice to have HB flanker from a non finals team but Brown isn’t worth anything inside pick 30 after kicking more goals than anyone in the three years pre Covid?

Riiiiiight.
I think we would both agree we will get a 1st rounder of some description for Ben. Brad Johnson and the like aren't list managers and this is why

Has anyone put this to the talking heads?

Unless you are an A grade player, 2 year contracts max.

Jed on 3+ years is silly. He can't even play more than 70% game time. I love the way he goes about it and hope he plays out the rest of his career with us but if Cunners is available he starts games on the pine, don't think we should give big deals to bench players.

Yes I'm liking him as that replacement/breather for cunners.... certainly missed that this year... jy is ok in there but we need a bigger body...

Terrific post. Certainly puts into perspective that if clubs believe they will get BBB for a late second or early third rounder, that they rate him approximately as highly as Schache or Watts

However it comes with the obvious caveat that I am unsure how many of the above players had their exits played out and predetermined in the media before leaving. I do think it will affect BBB's value

But for mine it places him somewhere in that Jake Carlisle bracket, in that I think we should be looking to upgrade #9 if a team in the #3-#8 range want BB. For instance, BBB and #9 for Essendon's #6 (or any of the Saad/Daniher picks in that range, ie Carlton's #7) and a future second or third rounder would be what I'd be thinking if BBB were to go to Tulla

Would give us a realistic shot at Hollands/McDonald at #2 and DGB/Phillips at #6. That's before you do any potential upgrading of 25 by attaching it to Higgins

Was Josh Bruce pushed out by the Saints?

Josh Bruce's move to the Western Bulldogs has been described as "an absolute bargain" after a last-minute trade on Wednesday night. Bruce will move from St Kilda to the Bulldogs in exchange for picks No. 32 and 51.

He may have been pushed out because he is extremely bad at football

What are folks thoughts on trading pick 2 & Brown for pick 6 & 7?

I reckon it's worth serious consideration, if Phillips dropping down the order is the expectation from the clubs.

6, 7, 9 & 25 to the draft.

That's possibly Phillips + Bruhn/Henry + Cox/Reid
