It's Shaws fault they're in this situation. Brad Scott advised them they need to rebuild. The board th ought otherwise. Hence why he left.

Shaw agreed with the board they didn't need to rebuild- hence why he got the job
That's not really Shaw's fault. It's the board and football department that was there who refused to accept their situation. Shaw was always going to say whatever the board wanted to hear to get the job and fair enough too.

And we are about to empty a whole heap of experience. Token pick I would consider it.

Caldwell is half developed but is going to take a couple of seasons to dominate. Higgins would be a great stop gap, he's super pro in his preparation and a clean skin. If you could get him cheap he'd be a great get. He could play when Hanners doesn't get up so good for about 23 games a year.

How's it fair enough ? Now he is going through this mess because he agreed with the board to get the job.

He dug his own grave. So I don't feel sorry for him

It's the club's fault not Shaw's.
Didn't understand their list situation and appointed a coach that gave them the answer they wanted to hear.
Regardless, I think they're better off under Shaw than Scott..

If Lonie goes - which is a possibility.
Gresh and Higgins rotating mid and forward would be nice.

Totally disagree. Scott is a far better coach and he was 100% correct.

I'd rather a coach who understands the situation and is transparent than a guy who is a yes man.

It's not about feeling sorry for him. He did dig his own hole, as you say, but that doesn't mean it's his fault that they're in this situation. Whoever took over after Scott was inheriting a list about to fall over the edge. It's the fault of the board for not reading its own list accuratley and thinking they were ready to go again.

No doubt Higgins is good but how many years do we get out of him...2?
Perhaps they're not expecting Geary to play much next year so need the on-field leadership.

We also have Battle

Who do Richmond have if Riewoldt and Lynch go down?

It would be a strange move to bring in someone on $1m year just so we have a decent forward in the VFL.

I don't think there are too many clubs that have the tall forward depth we do. We just happen to play them all in the 22.

I can't see how anyone wouldn't want Cameron if he was available. King might become that kind of dominant forward but he might not ever get there like Daniher. Memberey was terrible this year and might not really ever get over the 30 -45 goals a year mark. We could potentially trade him out or reinvent him as a CHB or something, Jeremy Howe style.

West Coast have Darling, Kennedy and Oscar Allen playing as KPFs.

Shaw should've been honest from the start.
Anyway we will agree to disagree.

Let's hope we benefit from it

Probably 2. He missed a lot of footy at the Dogs with thyroid issues and all kinds of bizarre things so hasn't been smashed like most 32 year olds.

You need to sometimes protect the youth and pass on the knowledge.
He is an immaculate trainer and a fantastic reader of the play. Would love Hunter to learn off him.

I would be thrilled with both Caldwell and Higgins. But there is one I want and I think it’s possible. Jack Viney.

if he was to leave Melbourne and they need to shed one of the key 3 mids Because it effects the team and the players output, then they can have our first. Get it done.

I would love to get Jye Simpkin

He would be untouchable along with Zurhar. They are their rebuild pillars. They have a few good kids that should help kick start them a bit. I can't see why they would lose Brown though. He's still pretty young.

I like Higgins, he 100% comes in to be best 22 and improves our team, and that especially holds if we lose someone like Lonie to money and greater opportunity.

But giving up anything substantial for a player of his age isn't something reasonable to do, even if we go balls to the wall for the 2021 Premiership before Paddy and Geary presumably move on.

Deals in line with the Hawthorn veteran trades of yesteryear:

Hodge + 44 = 43 + 75
Mitchell + 54 + 72 = 52 + 70 + 88 &
Lewis + 57 + 68 = 48 + 66

Would be my starting point, and I'd think only slightly overs from that would be reasonable, given the relative positions of the 2 clubs

I'm usually wrong, but Viney seems like he's entering the ultimate battler phase of his career? Strongest chin in the game tho, no doubt
