Admittedly, I haven’t see a heap of Brander and the below post is just one person’s opinion, but this post from the Eagles’ board doesn’t make me overly keen on Brander:

“I don't hold out much hope for Brander becoming a genuine CHF/FF who can replace Kennedy or Darling. He's taken a few decent marks so far in his career, but I don't think he has the necessary aggression or confidence to play as a spearhead forward relied upon to take contested marks or kick goals consistently. As Jimmy mentioned, he's still yet to kick a goal at senior level.

His strengths are his pace, agility, hands and kicking skills for someone his size. As much as it is a dirty name around here, he has a lot of similarities with Jack Watts, who also struggled to fit in as a key forward at senior level.

I think his role ought to be as an intercepting and rebounding defender, similar to Andrew Mackie. I think Brander and Rotham are athletic enough to play in a backline alongside Gov and Barrass without it becoming too tall and slow, particularly once Hurn retires.

The alternative would be to play him as a high leading forward-cum-midfielder, similar to the role that Tom Lynch played at Adelaide alongside Walker, McGovern and Jenkins. Waterman seems to have this role sewn up, however.”

Not sure anyone could honestly think the club would walk away from Brad after publicly committing to him...
If needed trade will occur, simple. He is worth a pick of around the 15 mark too, he's a jet.

Not sure anyone could honestly think Adelaide are interested in signing crouch for 650 x 5 and foregoing a top 20 pick when doing a fullscale rebuild either.

They had all year to sign him up for 5 years and have shown not a tiny bit of interest in doing anything close to that.

So we really just gon let the Luke Parker thing slide huh?
What Luke Parker thing?

Just on Crouch .I can see stk and Crows Working out a deal whereby Crows take the compensation pick 20 ,we swap 15 with 20 and Dunstan for a late rubbish pick To get him off the books a free up the cash.

I know it defeats the purpose of Free Agency, but it gets the deal done so we can move on to other trades .
I am stroking excessively here on the thought of Brander playing CHB
I see Webster as a perfect fit for Norf.Tassie connection and in need or experienced players.
As for Treleor ,anything more than a future second ,walk away.He is going to have issues with his family being in Qld, along with his mental health issues ,sorry but it’s a no.We need players who are 100% committed to the cause with no distractions.
I would prefer to Offer LDU 800k at North. Much more upside.

DUH!!!
If pick 20 is not good enough, which they would get as compensation, why is pick 15 OK. Its bullshit.
We did not commit to trading for him.
Different system altogether.
Would north have taken Dal Santo if we'd matched and asked them for a pick.
Would Bombers have taken BJ if we'd matched and asked Dodo for a pick?

Its delusional.
The comparisons being made between BJ and Dal are so moronic its not even funny. Not having a go at you personally just in general. The entire nucleus running the clubs drafting and trading operations are different, The Free Agency system has evolved, and at the time we were in a completely different spot.
There is no Relevance whatsoever with BJ and Dal and the crouching one.
can say we have not committed to *trading* for him but we have committed to having him one way or another on our books next season.
It will get done, as a club you can not go back on your word, you burn too many bridges and future deals get impacted.

Actually that's a god point about Carlisle, if he leaves the priority should be to replace him.

Also, what would we be expecting to get?
Well this is the sticking point we payed plenty but having only offered him 1 year at a reduced rate that weakens our position.

He looks cooked sometimes but with two clubs offering 3 years it’s unbelievable to me that would happen without a medical. So what the hell is going on, we’re a better team with him and we won’t get anything remotely close to replacement cost so why trade him.

Yep the dead giveaway is how he keeps banging on about threatening to match the bid 'if the compo isn't right', not 'because we don't want brad to go'.

Total amateur hour.

There is zero chance they match 650 x 5.

As you rightly point out- there is no 'forcing a trade' option available to him once we've submitted a bid.
Once we lodge a bid for brad on friday, the only possible outcomes are:
*No match from Adelaide and he's a saint.
*A match from Adelaide and he's a crow.
*A match from Adelaide and he's in the draft.

The only way they (or any club) can 'force a trade' for an RFA is by convincing the club who wants an RFA to do a trade instead of lodging an RFA bid.

If he hasn't succeeded in scaring our guys (with the prospect of a match) into pursuing a trade instead of lodging a bid by now- then the 'force a trade' boat has already sailed.

The Crows don't have a leg to stand on! Unless this is the guy in charge there...

Not that it personally makes much difference in my opinion.

But if we offer only a trigger for year 5(which is what has been reported)

Adelaide only need to match 4 years and the flat salary across those years.

But I completely agree with your point.

Garbage, dodoro for arguments sake offers a third for Caldwell and asks for two firsts for Saad are you doing those deals.

Nobody is making unreasonable trades so crouch at any price is just fanciful imo.

What Luke Parker thing?

Steak knives in the Heeney deal....

Worst case scenario we can still get brad in the draft with pick 15 easily enough if Adelaide decided to shoot themselves in the foot and match a 4 or 5 year bid.

Nobody is going to take him with picks 1-14 when we put a 2 million for 2 years price on his head like collingwood did with ball. (Brad then gets paid far less in the subsequent 3 year deal, like ball did... meaning brad still gets the same amount, just frontloaded)

When we have that as a viable fallback, there is no need for us to be concerned about their highly unlikely threats about matching a 4 or 5 year deal.

We have no real reason to give our first to adelaide rather than lodge an RFA bid.

I don't see us backing out of the Crouch deal even if they match. It's not a good look for future deals if we dump and run.

I think long term we will need the cash, so dont up the offer. If push comes to shove give them 15, take a late 2nd / early 3rd back and use that for Higgins with some other junk thrown in for good measure

Obviously not my preference but I just can't see us not seeing it through

its not going back on your word though ...
its free agency so as a free agent the player is free to explore options put to him ... we obviously put a contract to Brad that Brad was happy with so he accepted the move to St Kilda on those contract terms .. the AFL rules means as a Restricted free agent the crows have the opportunity to match that bid if they do then it lands back on Brad to either accept that bid from the crows or walk to the draft as an uncontracted free agent ... there is zero obligation for St Kilda to trade for him at all he has our offer he is happy with our offer we dont have to up our offer just to make the crows happy and if the crows do want to play silly buggers by matching it then guess what we have every right to walk away... that doesnt reflect poorly on St Kilda .. it does very much reflect poorly on the crows though .. between the mass exodus out of the club post their boot camp from hell and the way they are playing games with the contract of Brad you have to ask yourself if you were a player considering the crows as a new home would you maybe think again given the way they are dealing with a guy that has been in their own words a great player for them..
i think its the arrogance of a big club without every really having to fight for anything realising that they aint that big and they have a big stink attached to them ..

Why do we think Higgins would push out Lonie when Dean Kent is stealing a living in this side?

YOUNG TIGER SET TO LEAVE

Richmond forward Jack Higgins has reportedly played his last game for the club, with the 21-year-old and the Tigers in mutual agreement that his future lies elsewhere.

SEN’s Sam Edmund is reporting the livewire has decided on a Melbourne-based club he’d like to play at next year, which is not Carlton despite its desire to poach a small forward.

Multiple reports suggested St Kilda was the No. 1 contender for Higgins’ services.

Higgins took the competition by storm in 2018 with his elite goal sense and energetic personality, before brain surgery threatened his career in the back half of 2019.

He was taken by the Tigers with Pick 17 in the 2017 draft and has played 43 matches, 10 of which came this year as he struggled for senior opportunity.

As previously reported by The Age, both Higgins and the Tigers were keen to remain united but understood he would have far more opportunities in the senior side at a different home.

Higgins was squeezed out of the Tigers’ best 22 during the 2020 season by fellow smaller types like Jason Castagna, Daniel Rioli, Shai Bolton and Jake Aarts, the latter of whom also missed the Grand Final.

I think whether we’re right or wrong, there’s a bit of an assumption that Gresham and Billings will be spending a fair bit more time in the forwardline, reducing the need for the genuine small forwards.
