Is there any other team in the AFL that continually gets overs for their players then Essendon?

I swear, Essendon, the media and casual observer overrate their players more than any other players from other lists.

And yet clubs cave in their dealings with them. That's an even bigger mystery for me

Credit where it's due. Dodo played Carlton on a break

Fair question to be honest. Historically a badly run club.

Don’t worry though, when we finally break the drought, it will be a feeling that very few sports fans will ever experience. Think Red Sox ‘04 levels.
It's a poorly timed question though? What relevance does the last fifty years have on us now. I dunno, it's always been a bugbear of mine. I've got a thicker skin with dealing with it now but it just seems bizarre to call and whinge about that right now. What do you expect us to do? COme out and win the next flag immediately. Oh, ok.

It's like when I physically can't do something and my wife says "Oh, just do it" "Oh ok, I'll just do this thing that I have no capability of doing - never mind the fact I can't do it!!!"

There's also some juicy Free agents potentially coming up too:

Bont, Sheed, Jelly, Merrett, Cripps, M Crouch, Laird, Zorko

One of those for free would do.
Bont would cost a mint. I doubt the bulldogs will let it go to\ill the end of the year unless bont wants lots of $$$ like AT.

Anyone just hear that irrelevant campaigner call Dwayne to ask what is wrong with St Kilda and Melbourne for not winning a flag in half a century?

I love how people just assume that flags are SOOOOOOOOOOO fu**en easy to win.
Don’t be so entitled dude.

That type of sh*t just illustrates the clueless *******s that are out there. Essendon and Carlton are both 20 and 25 years respectively and they are historically the best teams. WHo gives a sh*t about the past - I wouldn't really care about sixteen premierships if I was born in 2001 and had never seen my team win one.

Yeah yeah I know..... spoken like a true St Kilda supporter.

Saw Dermott Brereton down the road when I went to get some lunch.

Make of it what you will...
Yes. I assumed you were heavily under the influence of caffeine so you could sit through his long-winded meanderings that ultimately make zero sense or make no good points whatsoever.

Cripps is the interesting one for me. At some stage he has to start thinking about playing finals. If the blues are no closer next year and we have gone a step closer, anything could be possible. Clear Webster, Dunstan, Savage and Roberton’s contract and throw them at him.

I think next year, talls will be a bigger priority than more mids.

Ryder will likely need replaced and potentially Carlisle as well.

I would be going after Constable. Delist Hind if we need a list spot.

Would be happy with

Crouch
Higgins
Constable

See if we can offload Hind/Mckenzie/Savage/Dunstan

He seems very "Luke Dunstan" to me.

Constable is the last player we need atm.

We've just brought in crouch and will no doubt already have Dunstan and Bytel in the VFL

We are now at the point where trades need to be carefully chosen.
Yes there will be good players , but only go after them if we need them.

We have no developing tall forwards, though Battle can play tall forward..
Our only developing ruck is probably a longshot.
We have Clavarino and Marsh who can play in the backline but Clav is still unknown, and Marsh is limited, more a 3rd tall.

I think defensive pressure is a big weakness of Butler.
I'd have him one of the first picked each week, but i wouldn't want 3 of him.
He gets away with it because many of our other players, including the talls are good at it.
So your argument is that the number 1 player across the AFL for total tackles inside forward 50 is not very good at defensive pressure??

Seems legit ...

I would be moving on Dunstan. We know his output. Constable has not had a proper chance in that Geelong side considering the inside mids they have had over the last 4 years. Would be looking at him as a replacement for Dunstan.

Wow okay so Goddard must of knew that then, and still did what he did. What a w***er.

Thanks for clearing that up for me SS
hrmmmm take anything Pelchen ever said about anything with a huge slab of salt ... the guy has no problem exagerating and spinning half truths to make him come out as a guru ...
all i know is that from all that time we had Pelchen at our club there is not a single st kilda person that has anything positive to say about him, on the flip side of that people like Dal and BJ are still very much welcome at the club ... make of that what you will

He's quick and gets to players but probably lacks a bit of size like Lonie. He's like Lonie with more pace.

Absolutely mate.
if they are going to count vfl premierships may as well let port count their sanfl ones officially
because vfl was a country league, obviously of good quality in the 70s/80s but there was teams strung out to make up the numbers while a flag could be bought with money just like any mob of farmers in the sticks.

Wasn't even a professional sport before 1990ish
even since then *'s abound on flags
essendon oversalary cap and on the juice
geelong on the juice and a platter of father sons hand outs
brisbane sydney on afl assistance

**** the past.
bring on the future!

A lot of teams still have to move on players to fit in draft picks they have to take in the draft , clubs are going to have to take at least 2 players , it was 3 - anyway Richmond are going to have move players as well - Higgins is not worth more than next years 2nd - hopefully we walk if they want more .
We need to pick up something decent in the draft and our 1st round pick is worth keeping because with our other picks you can't expect to get much with our next pick at around 60.
