Apologies if already posted - but this is where I think we should target a Key Defender - maybe with a pick in the 30s.

AFL draft 2021: best mature age state league prospects, VFL, WAFL, SANFL, Charlie Dean, Greg Clark, Leek Alleer, Mitch Cox (foxsports.com.au)
Unfortunately they seem to be all intercept types. Admittedly Dean and Alleer are early on in their KPD development, so if we see more one-on-one potential then I'm fine with waiting until the 30s. Reckon we might have to use 31 on Alleer if keen, would be surprised if he makes it to 39 when the Crows have a pick in between.

Been watching all the highlight packages as they've been uploaded to Youtube. None impressed me like Sonsie, Chesser & Taylor's did.

Shall I post the Dean Towers or Gary Rohan highlight package?

How about the Ronke one?

I remember the Rohan highlights. I was not impressed with his disposal as every kick he had seemed to miss his target. Oddly enough for all his faults Rohan's kicking was not one of them.
Hard to assess a player’s kicking when he doesn’t get any possessions.

In further news - 31 + 39 packaged up for BraveDogs 23?

Schlensog sounds legit to me.

Id be very happy to use 31 on him.

Not surprising. While I would like pick 23 I don't want to overpay for pick 23. Paying picks 31 and 39 feels right, and anything more than that is overs.
Yea don’t know what Geelong will give up for it they do have 30,32,34 be surprised if we were asking for overs for the draft pick

Thoroughly disagree with the idea that getting Paddy ends our need for a KPD.

After next year we have Tom and maaaaayyybeeee Melican as our locked in KPDs. While there's question marks over Gould, BOC and definitely Paddy "handful of games in VFL defence" McCartin - it is our area of greatest need, so you maximise your chances of having a best 22 KPD in a few years.

And I'm confused. We shipped off Hewett and I was assured we had a plethora of young mids ready to take over. But now we're so short we need to ignore anything else and bring in mids?

Shuffle some picks, get us a couple in the 20s, keep one in late 30s. Grab the likes of Wilmot or Chesser, then Bazzo/Alleer/Dean (best available with lockdown potential), then Sheldrick or Dittmar (or Warner if lucky). Paddy and Anderson at the rookie draft. Done. Catered for some inside and outside mid / wing potential, a couple of KPDs, and if Wilmot, potential for small defender roles if needed.

People justify not picking a KPD because they take time to develop, and then there's talk of waiting til next year to draft one....
Not having a go, just asking a question...

We keep talking about the club getting rid of Hewett, and I'm wondering did they actually say that's what they did? The only comments I can find are from Tom Harley where is says:

Sydney CEO Tom Harley has revealed his club is yet to commit to midfielder George Hewett beyond 2022, and vice versa. Hewett is a restricted free agent at the end of the season and Tim Watson has mail linking him with a move to Carlton. Harley said it was “not the case” that the 25-year-old was out the door, but said negotiations were yet to pick up. “George is a restricted free agent and a really valued member of the footy club,” The Swans CEO told SEN Breakfast. “He hasn’t signed and he hasn’t committed to the Swans and the Swans (haven't committed) to George to be honest beyond this year. As far as anything being done, that would be news to me." (SEN 3 months ago)

So why are we certain that we pushed Hewett out the door? Perhaps we were not willing to pay what he felt he was worth, and Carlton was? Perhaps the cost of living in Sydney, with a young family, was too great...

It seems like he was on the table last year, and even when Dawson indicated a desire to leave we still made no effort to keep Hewett.

Now, you can say what you want about the decision, but not committing to a best 22 player who is in their mid 20s is a pretty obvious decision.

For what it's worth, I like the fact that the swans have know what they want their team composition to be and haven't deviated from it, I just wish Hewett was a part of those plans.

Now none of this is 100%, but if we look at it objectively, I would say its more likely that we no longer wanted him than anything else.

To add to the other response, where we shopped him around last year and just didn't make an offer, to a 25 y.o. best 22 mid, our best ball using mid (key for our new style) and tagger, when we're supposedly coming up on a finals/flag run, is pretty crazy to me, especially if we remotely wanted to keep Hewett. There were other articles suggesting there was no indication that Hewett wanted out.

Either way, I think it's fairly clear it was at least majority club initiated. Now, I'm reading between the lines here, but I think we were going to have a short term salary crunch next year at least and Hewett paid the price, along with the club benefit of getting (inadequate) draft compo. The club in hindsight with Dawson leaving, may have ended up paying the $450k, 4 year deal for George (an easily fair price imo), or probably could have gotten him for less with a direct offer. But the club just didn't know it would have the cash in the short term. And when it did, it might have been too late to backtrack. So we've now seen some unexpected extensions to others for a year. Anyway that's my take (again).

yes, alleer highlights certain look great ... he's certainly a big presence

Another few snippets of Zac Taylor (just click through).

EDIT
Just to keep it together, for reference, when we pick him up and later when he wins his first Brownlow, his AFL.com highlights package; :)

i don't closely follow all these draft prospects but this kid looks one of the best of the highlights reels i've seen, seems very composed and looks natural kicking with both feet
what's the reality of him being available for us?
i'll say again, i think big key defenders are our priority but would be more than happy with taylor at the swans
