He seems almost like the forgotten man of the draft.
Consensus first rounder but there just doesn't appear to be any 'buzz' about him.
He's almost an afterthought.
On various boards you see guys like Goater, Taylor, Sonsie, Johnson etc being talked up and then someone says "what about Draper?" and the reaction is oh ya he'd be alright, but I'd prefer......

Interestingly 'strength' is an area they believe he can improve.
Watching his highlights he seems quite capable of standing up in a tackle (and delivering one himself).

Twomey;
Ranked 15th.
Midfielder/forward
186cm/75kg
20/1/03
South Adelaide/South Australia

The ability to play across all three lines seems to be something that gets a tick from our recruiters as does disposal (decision making and execution).

Arlo Draper is a very basic and forgettable name in this year's draft.

he's not always a crappy kick
From my watching I think when it's crook it's more a question of decision-making than kick mechanics. Maybe aiming? Ball flight usually looks OK.
Big question in my mind is why is it sometimes very good and sometimes not by a fair bit. Mental?
Contrast to me is JMac who hardly ever seems to concede a turnover from a misdirected kick. Playing much the same position most of the time.
Bit of a puzzle.

Per the bolded, I have no idea why Florent is considered a good kick because he sometimes produces elite kicking. There's literally not a single medium-to-small sized player in our best say 25 who does not have the occasional elite moment by foot. Even JPK & Parker.

I know you want him out of the team but what is your alternative. What do we do with Florent?

I don't want him out of the team rusty, and there is no alternative (yet). But he is the clear 22nd man to me, at the bottom of an ever-growing list of midfield options in our 22 and with no discernible attribute he can offer over anyone else. He seems to get a kind of free pass because of his "evasiveness" and "sometimes elite kicking", like none of the others offer those things...?

I want him to improve and go ahead of the others, otherwise I think he will be out of the side.

From my observation most players precision follows more or less a normal distribution. Lots of factors, especially available time and pressure, tiredness etc.
Florent sometimes kicks absolute clangers way out of the normal distribution. Those are the issue with him, not the normal range of kicking.
JPK for instance sometimes skims straight along the ground, but usually still towards the target and less likely to generate a turnover.

I don't think we need to pinpoint a player to get out of our team. I think we just need to draft and trade and let nature take its course.
let things happen. You never know.

But it is not mutually exclusive.. Players can be better kicks with better coaching.
That is correct. I know personally that the swans used to have remedial groups for certain skills, so if your kicking was suss, you would have to do extra time in the kicking group, etc.
Each team had a kicking coach at one stage but I'm not sure if that still occurs. The point is that no player is the finished product when they are drafted so if they have outstanding attributes in other areas but their kicking is off then they may slip in the draft order but clubs will take that gamble.

i agree on mcinerney ... his disposal always seems good

A favourite song (Alice) of my HSC year (1969). I was more Hendrix and Canned Heat.

John Mayall, the Small Faces, Cream, Jefferson Airplane, Eric Burdon, Julie Driscoll and Brian Auger. In those days local bands like The Loved Ones, Spectrum and Chain were pretty handy.

Hendrix was just supreme.

Goater, Draper, Taylor, Sonsie is my vibe

Looked into Goater and he would have to be developed as a mid. His disposal would be found out elsewhere.

Like Draper and Taylor, neat players. Wilmot if there would be ok.

Outside of left field picks would be Owens or Knevitt would could both be something.

Would not be overly disappointed with any pick this draft

Finn Calaghan looks good. What's more he is named after Finn McCool the great Irish hero of the Cronicles. Finn McCool is supposed to have been an Irish hero who as a boy was unbeatable at Hurling. Being so agile as to be able to leap free over the tallest player. He never missed a goal or a pass.

This kid's kicking sounds just like Dawson's. Long and accurate and makes good decisions. He is touted at 17 so around our pick. He is named as liw as 5 in some drafts apparently. Hope we can get him. He is a winger and could move into the mids. He is also a good handballer and will use the best option. He sounds just what we need

Will not slip out of top 6, been viewed as open draft pick 2 after JHF

His problem is that I genuinely don't think Florent is any better than the rest of our mids by foot. And he's the outside distributor. So I don't think he can use the "available time, pressure, tiredness etc" excuse. He's in a role where generally speaking he will have more time and less pressure on his kicks, and where tiredness shouldn't come into it if he's a fit enough athlete for that position.

So if we have an outside distributor who is no better at distributing it than most of our inside mids, it makes him a bit pointless in the team.

I got them from Footywire.

Let's just do an easy one.
