Seems like the sort who could really make it at an AFL level.

In saying that though I don't know enough about him to be sure. I hope a highlights video turns up.

Unsure if it's been posted before, but his Draft Central profile is quite complimentary, although they generally are, and he's still rated as a late pick/rookie.

I'll admit I didn't pay as close attention to the non-listed VFL players for us (although he only played one of the official/televised games I think) - he sounds like he'll be predominantly an inside mid, but one who'll work tirelessly around the ground, maybe can rest up forward. Not expecting him to be JPK, but probably the closest in type to compare to.

If we're guaranteed to bring him in, then I think we can further afford to focus on areas of greater need with the 3 earliest ND picks, such as wing, KPD, maybe a hybrid mid like Warner since it sounds we're pretty keen, and/or someone who can play a small defensive role in a few years time (post Cunningham and Fox).

File the events of today re Greenwood under "the guys who play dirty get what they want while those who deal in good faith get hoodwinked."
Why on earth would Gold Coast have even considered putting Greenwood on the rookie list anyway. He finished 4th in their B&F last year.
Surely, there would have been numerous players better suited.
Clubs will now need to be very wary of telling players that we will delist you but promise to pick you up again as a rookie. From now on, it should only be a player you would not be unhappy to lose anyway.

They weren't going to. He was going to stay on the senior list, same conditions/terms. He said this publicly, and that he was happy with it, before he changed his mind and left.

What people are failing to realise is that by doing what they did, Gold Coast were OK with losing Greenwood. Otherwise they wouldn't have done it. Would they have done it to Rowell? Anderson? Collins? Witts? Of course not. They drew a line in the sand and classified Greenwood as someone they were happy to have as a delisted free agent during the free agency window.

He said that when he HAD to say that. What is so complicated about this? The day of that tweet his career options were either Gold Coast Suns or retirement.

Bit of a difference between OK/Happy and least risk/least impact (to player morale).

Why take the risk! Surely there’s about 10 other spuds they could have delisted first! They deserve this it was beyond dumb list management

There's nothing complicated about it. He didn't have to say it, he could have just stayed quiet unless he actually meant it. Why is retirement even being mentioned? There's no evidence that GC went to him and said, agree to this or you're out completely. They could have found someone else if he'd expressed concerns. He had 2 years remaining on his contract, it had to be a mutual decision.

Why even take the risk he’s come 4th in your B and F you are beyond dumb as a club if you don’t think another club will swoop

I would imagine they approached senior players like Greenwood and Thompson because they might handle it more maturely, which it sounds from any evidence, they did. Except one then reneged.

And good on North Melbourne then. It’s beyond dumb. You can try and defend it but frankly you make dumb decisions like this honestly you deserve it. Good on North. Just wish we were fortunate to get some of GC’s dumb behaviour our way!

Obviously they trusted him. That trust got broken. So they misjudged the relationship.

They deserve every bagging coming their way. Get handed a zillion priority picks and butcher every one. Then let go of a bloke 4th in their B a F 😂

I'm not really trying to defend Gold Coast, other than that I think they got screwed over by Greenwood.

Wrong on every count.

He had to say it because at that time, he was committing to staying with the Suns which was his only other option. He was actually doing the right thing by assuaging the scrutiny the club was rightfully receiving for the move.

As far as retirement, that actually was his only other option at the time. He'd just been delisted, and he was at the mercy of Gold Coast's faith that they'd re-sign him unless another suitor presented itself (which North eventually did).

You continually mention how they could've found someone else if Greenwood wasn't on board with it. Two gigantic flaws in that theory:

1. Who is to say it would've gone any differently? NO player wants to hear that they're expendable enough to be delisted, and it will always create a bit of a fracture between player and club.

2. They didn't choose someone else, they chose Greenwood. So it is Greenwood's right to be offended.

And finally he didn't have 2 years left on his contract, he had one year left with incentives for an extra year. Given he'd just been delisted by them, you can see why he didn't like his odds of getting that extra year with them.

GC did all the screwing mate. You don’t delist players 4th in your Best and Fairest I don’t care how you spin it. The utter most stupid list management and you wonder why GC is a joke club

Well I think we're just going to have to disagree. All I'm doing is basing things on the evidence we have, that it had to be a mutual decision, that he publicly backed the idea, then since switching to North, he's doubled down on having been fine with the idea and said he just changed his mind / reneged on the agreement. I think you're just reading things into the situation, which might be true I guess, there's just no evidence for it.

I mean if someone wants to take a punt on a 30 year old who can't get on the park, that's definitely a risk now there's blood in the water. He might be more loyal though.

Loyalty lol!

They delisted him!
