I just feel for whichever poor kids get picked by Carlton.

Must be an awful, sinking feeling. And hard to portray that "I'm so happy" vibe when the TV cameras capture the moment your name is called.

money and blind hope ...
spose for any kid rated highly enough to be a draft prospect would feel some relief at just being picked ... and then it would sink in ...

I think it would be a very nice touch for Paddy to get the number 29 jumper. I recall in an interview Tom McCartin said George Hewett was his closest mate at the club, and they would've been locker buddies as numbers 29 & 30. It would be a great gesture if Tom's best mate's number was passed on to Tom's brother.

Forever known as a 'Tanner Bruhn' after he was selected last year by GWS;

It was the family's reaction more than Tanner's that got me. He said afterwards it was kinda shock and being overwhelmed and that makes sense when you look back at it. But his mum, dad and brother's faces were kinda like, "ahhhh **** mate, guess it's better than nothing"

Played a fair season so he overcame whatever negative feelings he had.

Nah, retire the 29 imo ;)

Also re: Anderson, I think the reason we have 70 still listed is that we can still use it. If we passed there, then technically we'd have pick 88 available (since 70 wasn't used). We're still listed as having 88 on the AFL site. Now if we passed there and one of the 6 teams with picks left still had one to use and bid, we'd still be able to wrangle a pick swap and trade back in, if a later club of those 6 didn't want to use their 5th rounder. Probably not going to be an issue at all if we still have access to 88 to match a bid, as long as we haven't already taken 4.

Why does this have you in stitches particularly?

I mean it's a bit of a simplification, but have you not noticed that amount of 27yo+ players that head to Geelong? Do you reckon that might have something to do with wife and kids? Lifestyle in retirement etc?

It stands to reason that if Jordan Dawson had found himself a local Sydney girl who desired to stay in Sydney then there is a far greater chance that Jordan Dawson would still be a Sydney player.

Of all of the ridiculous sh*t that gets raised on this board, that is hardly the most so.

The scene in particular goes something like this.

"He has the talent, but he has an ugly girlfriend"

"Why does that matter?"

"It shows he lacks confidence"

Back in the Paul Roos day we seemed to be trying to build a team with nothing but halfbacks. Under Longmire we can be the first team in history to be made up entirely of ruckmen.

We won't be drafting him.

If we hadn't brought in Ladhams there was maybe a small possibility, I think we attack the midfield, HBF and KPD.

How many ruckman do you want on our list???

Hickey
Ladhams
Sinclair
Naismith
MacAndrew

And King
Yeah we needed one before we drafted McAndrew and traded for Ladhams. Still though, Sinclair's got like no time left, Hickey's on the wrong side of 30, and Naismith won't get another contract. Billy King means we don't have to take one this year but generally getting another ruck wouldn't be as ridiculous as it looks

We still have Amartey.

Even not counting Sinclair and Naismith that's still 4 ruckmen before Amartey or McLean who can pitch hit.

Stupid to waste a top pick on a ruck this year
