Very much reminded of the scene in `Moneyball` where they're trying to replace their star player, but instead trying to replace his `output`.

Hilariously meta when you think about the parallels between the scouting meeting scene and footy forums. When we bring up the importance of the players having Sydney based partners to prevent them from leaving it always has me in stitches.

I wonder if we might look at a mature age option with one of our picks this year? A kinda left field, Tim Kelly-esque pick.. I suspect given the lack of exposure to the 18 year olds, some older options from the state leagues might be more appealing than usual.

I'd be happy to go with Charlie Dean as our potential new KPD. Unlike the draftees, he would be ready to play straight away.
Not sure, where he fits in the draft order but I doubt he would last until rookie picks. In saying that, we already have our full share of rookies presumably with Patty and Anderson.

Why does this have you in stitches particularly?

I mean it's a bit of a simplification, but have you not noticed that amount of 27yo+ players that head to Geelong? Do you reckon that might have something to do with wife and kids? Lifestyle in retirement etc?

It stands to reason that if Jordan Dawson had found himself a local Sydney girl who desired to stay in Sydney then there is a far greater chance that Jordan Dawson would still be a Sydney player.

Of all of the ridiculous shit that gets raised on this board, that is hardly the most so.

Dean seems to sit around 35+. Most of the phantom drafts have us picking him with our 3rd draft pick - likely everyone seeing the same thing in our list needs

If we judge Dean as a good prospect, happy to grab him, might need to be at 31 though. But in comparison to the teens like JVR and Bazzo, he's lighter than JVR and not much bigger than Bazzo. He (and Alleer) have also been mainly intercept types, while we need more the lockdown KPD.

Yeah with Jones leaving it can really shift teams needs. While Carlton might not take Dean they might take Aleer or Bazzo, which means a club looking at them will be more likely to take Dean, etc

why would they be entitled to a compensation pick because a player made a ridiculous, ignorant, selfish "lifestyle" decision?

Not sure Young is a full time solution, was used in the ruck a decent amount at the Dogs. In any case I wasn't arguing they'd pick a KPD, rather which one they'd be more likely to go for if they did.

I'd be surprised (and disappointed) if we went an inside midfielder when we have the opportunity to pick up Anderson as an academy product for that role.

It's also a player type we've been moving away from in recent years
