Fitzpatrick legacy the only player in the league that was forced to reveal his wages.

wonder what fitzpatrick's afl salary was at the time ... anyone have any idea?
franklin, at both his clubs, brought people to games ... boosted the product ... thus helped pay whatever fitzpatrick was earning ... (or am i wrong on this? i don't profess to know the details of the finances of the afl and its senior staff)

Reid is on 600-700k and Naismith wouldn't be on much less because we somehow rate the bloke! Must mix a mean Gatorade in the rehab group! even if it's a $1 to $1.1 million mark, that's 3 good players we have missed out on for what? Keeping two injury prone players who are no good.

If Naismith was on much more than $250k I’d be surprised.

These guys aren’t on the list and we’d be overpaying someone else more likely. Guys like Gray and Taylor on the list taking up space.

Have to pay 95% of the cap, removing these guys doesn’t necessarily make other players materialise onto our list.

All 4 of those players should be delisted or traded at years end. Our top side is close to good enough, its the depth that's a worry. I'd rather have 3 guys on minimum and have the money to chase a top end talent. If we are putting a million on sport parts it is an issue. How and why we signed Taylor and Gray to multiple year deals is a mystery...but the worst one by far is Naismith...lets resign him whilst he's injured...good one guys! Reid is just a bad signing at the price however he was playing alright this year.

One persons 'close' is another persons 'never in a million light years'

I could possibly imagine half that value.

Whatever the figure is that money could have been used elsewhere

Both structurally important. Might have overpaid a bit but clubs always do for that type.
The issue in our cap is that we effectively pay COLA due to Sydney being Sydney but there is no allowance for that via the AFL

Naismith structurally critical for the rehab clinic or something? Reid is overpaid as decent as he’s been this year.

I wouldn't be into either Brodie or Constable personally. Brodie, imo, is severely limited skill-wise, there's a reason he can't get a regular game at Gold Coast. We all get sick of our current crop of inside midfielders not hitting targets, it'd got to another level with Brodie imo. As for Constable, I'd prefer an inside midfielder who was a little more athletic and quick. Think that type suits the game more now than a taller, lanky type like Constable.

It will not be a fast moving Inquiry.

The inquiry into why the Victorian clubs are not winning Grand Finals is still going and pumping ideas out on how to help the Victorian clubs more.
The enquiry noted (in para 6-7 page 134) that:

“Initiatives associated with umpires Stevic and Chamberlain have failed to produce that anticipated result after initial success in 2016.
However, the recruitment of Tom Lynch did not attract the feared scrutiny of salary cap pressure and thereby duly enabled a pleasing prolongation of VFL strategic objectives”

Damn, you are writing my reports from now on.

To trade someone has to want to come and we have to want to pay. To delist (if contracted) still costs us the same.

We have been through a period where we needed to top up the list from an experience point of view and importantly filling out our salary cap. We can’t make players come here and couldn’t carry too many kids as it would be a detriment to the development of the list.

Sorry to say but I am so very glad you’re not our list manager!!😂

Imo, there's a reason Geelong aren't picking constable, and why no one is trying that hard to grab him. The pure inside mid is a dying breed and you have to be elite to be useful in that roll.

Players with burst and skill are now being utlisied ahead of the ball winners, and midfields are asking more from everyone rather than 1-3 players to winning the ball.

At least that's how I'm reading the game.

On who?
We haven't been able to attract talent and is one of the reasons we have a plethora of cheap players traded in.

Then bank the cash and try again no point settling on average options. Makes it harder to attract someone when it’s needed.
