Thoughts on this Herald Sun article about the top 100 paid players?

It says we are paying (midpoint of ranges):

Franklin $1.475m
Heeney $850k
Parker $800k
Rampe $725k
Lloyd $625k
Mills $625k
Papley $625k

Certainly would explain why we are salary cap constrained and can't sign any big names

Sounds about right.

Buddy is going down to only $1 million next year so that improves things a bit.

If that's correct, my math shows we are paying the other 31 players on the list ~$290,000/year on average

We must be watching different players. Consistently one of our best performing. 2x B&F winner and co-captain. The Parker hate here is nauseating at times

It isn't hate. I think Parker is a very good number 2 or number 3 midfielder, but he isn't really the win the game off his own back sort of player like Kennedy was in his prime. Parker isn't the sort who can lead a midfield.

Too high for Papley i think we got him on a 4 year contract early and much cheaper than the above amount

Here we go again..............

Kennedy $700k .

I am calling BS on the all the amounts except for Buddy. Maybe $100-$150 too high for some

Exactly! Whoever wrote that article (which I can't read because of the pay wall) has about as much insider knowledge as we do. These are guesses, nothing more, nothing less.

Let's assume this is true. Important to remember this is a one year window and there might be several peaks or back ended values here (e.g. Parker, Franklin). Also when calculating other players salary averages, need to remember you don't have to be under the salary cap every year, you just need to meet the average over a period of time.

In any case, with Franklin rumoured to have a $500k drop after this season and Parker up for renewal (but taking longer, who knows maybe we're trying to back end again), we should have some space. But then we don't know the deals made for some of the younger guys that have re-signed in the last few years. We may also be able to rookie Taylor like we did with Gray's final contract year, he was rumoured to be on $3-400k or similar.

Interesting that Hewett has to be on a decent salary (RFA this year), but isn't mentioned here. Possibly some accuracy issues.

If Dawson has calmed the farm on exit rumours himself, Hewett is being paid big this year (and might be ok with less in the next few), then I hope we don't have anything to worry about. If Parker holds out for more money, he'd be the one I'm most prepared to lose out of him, Dawson and Hewett. While it would hurt our push in the next couple of years, he's 29 at trade time, so the clock would be ticking for him to be around in our next premiership anyway. The others are key players for the next 5-6 years.
