why is it that the years we have a high draft pick, the top player or couple of players are f***ing Academy, then when they change the rule, they are father son (not even academy) so they are still going to be off limits.

In any normal year, with pick 3 say, a side could take one of Horne, Daicos or Darcy (Knightmare is absolutely huge on him and thinks he is likely the new no 1 player now)..but even if you had pick 2, there is every chance you miss out on all 3. just our f***ing luck
Or Norths luck to be more precise

As I said before, as long as these F/S top end picks keep going to Victorian teams, they will happily allow it. If there had been 3 years in a row where top end picks had gone to the Crows and WC, it would be changed real quick.
There is a reason the NGA has changed...

Daicos is going to be a Collingwood Father Son pick and Darcy a Bulldogs FS. How exactly do they get them?

Currently Dogs only have 1044 points leaving them short over 1300 to match pick 1 with the discount. Collingwood have 1625 where it stands, short 800.

So do they go massively in debt for the following year? Trade in some points? Is it possible North bidding on Darcy could leave Bulldogs simply unable to match?

The way son of Luke is developing it's feasible that the Doggies could get two Pick 1's via F/S/NGA in following years and the way young Will Ashcroft is projecting Brisbane could have a F/S pick 1 in 2022.

Easy, trade non required players for draft picks, both teams have several players that aren't best 22 regularly that will be in demand by other AFL clubs. i.e Patrick Lipinski and Brayden Sier

That loss as annoying as it is to watch was very necessary. I get the win to build culture stuff but we need elite talent badly. Like really badly. Pick four/five is in our reach now.

I think a bit too much is made of these things - there’s good players available all through the draft. Especially anywhere in the top 30. Lots of wonderfully talented young men.

If you narrow the focus to elite, club building talent, you can be comfortable picking anywhere between 4-10 and in some cases even later than that. I wouldn’t be too worried losing out on the first few picks. Great to have them sure - but not a deal beaker I don’t think.

Heck, pick 2-3 is in reach.

We have a very tough month ahead of us, and a game against the Hawks could see us plummet. Especially if Gold Coast decide to win another game.

It's very possible that North might bid on Daicos at pick 1, then Darcy at pick 2. Would be a bit embarrassing for the AFL if it went that way, but so long as the pick 1 goes to a Victorian team, they won't change the rules.

You do have to wonder how the Dogs will match when they only have pick 17 and then 72. We might be able to offer one or two of our second round picks to assist them...

Meanwhile North could easily go for Sonsie. Vic Metro, elite mid. Would be a good fit. Just happens to leave Horne for us if we do the right thing over the next few weeks..
f north don’t go with Horne, we pick him up and trade next years first for pick 6 and try get Roberts. That would be a dream scenario

We shouldn't have access to Horne unless we win the spoon. He would be perfect for North, dynamic and powerful to compliment Powell and Phillips. They would be insane to pass over him.

More realistically, Roberts/Hobbs/Chesser/Draper, would be happy with any of those with our first pick

Add Finn Callaghan to those.

I can't see Draper going that high personally, I think we could trade down and till get him and another player with our 1st pick.

And will they though ?? They never finish years out any good and the pressure is as high as its ever been for them. The Hawks game is the interesting one.

I agree - I think Arlo was every chance to make a late bolt to the top echelon BUT that ankle injury sits him out now.

Probably not. This is Gold Coast we're talking about. The team who took over Fremantles mantle as the loser expansion club.

Carlton, Sydney or Giants could be winnable though, however they might need to sack Dew to do it.

Both clubs will likely trade their 2022 first rounder for multiple picks in 2021 to acquire points.

Either that or they trade a player (or players) for multiple 2021 picks.

Which of those players do you feel would best add to our list?
Callaghan obviously, size, speed, excellent disposal, run and carry and rate of development this season given he didn't play any footy last year.

Ahead of South's Roberts even?
On upside possibly but Roberts obviously the safer pick being a home grown product with little want away you'd think.

Callaghan with his size, speed, run and carry and excellent foot skills addresses our need for some serious outside midfield ability delivering into the forward line...a very tantalising prospect on a very upward trajectory.

Side note: I did a ladder predictor last night and still have us finishing 13th (wins to come against North, Hawks and Pies, losses against everyone else). Had us percentage only ahead of the Saints.

Now, the season potentially being played out in full in Melbourne would be a nice way of potentially ruining these wins, so maybe we lose every game from here on out? 😂

Gold Coast will be lucky to even win one more game, North are still a 98% chance of the wooden spoon (2% chance that they get above Gold Coast only), but there is still potential there for us to swan dive into 16th.

Most likely scenario is us landing in 13th-15th when it’s all said and done though. Pick 4-6. Blows out to 5-7 with Daicos certain bid. May blow out to 6-8 with Darcy potential bid. Either way, when you remove Horne, Daicos and Darcy from the pool, we’ll get one of the best 5 remaining players. One of Roberts, Callaghan, Chesser, Rachele, Sonsie seems a likely scenario.

Banking some 2nd rd compo for Crouch and trading 2 of our 3 2nd rounders top acquire ANOTHER one of the above players, or someone like Hobbs, Draper, Sinn or one of the top couple of WA lads also makes a lot of sense.

I wonder what it would take to get 22 off GC? Or even 23 from the Hawks.

Not sure if we will have enough currency to get another first rounder, but those picks might be attainable.

I feel like there might be some real midfield talent around that mark.

Getting another 3 bonafide mids out of this draft would really set us up.

it seems to look good for us assuming we are finishing in roughly the position we are in now that we will have a very good player available to us at our 1st pick..a player that can come in and really address a need in midfield and also tick the best talent available box you expect when using 1st round draft picks
