Hunter, Jake?

Hunter! Damn it. Put him in and the Byrnes/Sinc/Kent spot misses out.

I think Jake is going to be fighting for a spot this year. I think Frawley will hold down FB and that Highmore will come on pretty quickly if we want that floating option.

Howard deep with Highmore, Wilkie and Coffield just intercepting everything would be very much in the mould of the Hawks premiership backlines that Ratten was a part of.

Im not sure using billings as an example gets him over the line , billings is no star
Very differently player too, apples and oranges. Rate Dumont but his type isn’t a need at the moment. Josh Kelly is the one we should putting our effort into, has a trigger for a huge extension though which scares me.

As someone said on here not long ago id be chasing Fischer McAsey , we need another tall key and i think we have enough mids at the moment , we need to see how Bytel and Byrnes progress this year before chasing another mid IMO

Anyway Merrett would be a better option than Kelly IMO

Like the McAsey pick, but I reckon it was very astute of us going after Payne (if rumours are to be believed) - still young but has the body to easily hold down a FB position for the next decade.

Where has the Payne rumour come from?
Remember talk that we should approach after his performance when Andrews was out but nothing more than that.

Someone mentioned McAsey earlier in the month that we were speaking with him but heard nothing about Paine.
KingsRansom made that call in December upon looking back.
Am excited if we are making a move one either of them

There were rumours floating in the second half of last year before he re-signed, with enough ITK contributors mentioning it for me to be pretty comfortable that we asked the question. Same with Brander from WCE.

No Thanks to Zac Merrett

Soft outside skinny mid who doesnt really impact games (not a game winner for the amount of possessions he gets) or kick goals (46 in 142 games) ...... pretty much why the Dopers are a middling to sh*te side

What? He lays over 5 tackles a game on average.

The only Saint to do that is Jack Steele. Brad Crouch as well but he's yet to play a game for us.

Merrett would be a big upgrade on someone like Ross, especially if we are trying to turn Ross into a defensive midfielder.

Trade thread in midseason form already.

FWIW my dream would be adding Cripps or Zerrett to our midfield. Would just about make us premiership faves.

Cripps highly unlikely you'd think, but if you don't ask you dont get

If Carlton burn another year of his prime, and Saints are knocking on the door on the back of a monster fixture, you'd have to think he at least takes the call and listens to what we have to say?

Frankly, if we are looking serious contenders after this fixture, we should have a bunch of people wanting to chat to us.

Geez we must be travelling well if we can dismiss Merrett out of hand.

Have I stumbled onto the Richmond forum?

While I wouldn’t use the terminology, I feel the same way, even if it’s just a subjective eye test. Doesn’t impact games and ultimately is a bit of a squib.

Just don't think he is very damaging with all the possessions he gets

My step mum is related to the Merretts so I might be biased but watch some highlights, he's not soft, just small. I'd love him at the Saints, he could do a Lauchie Neale one day.

Zerrett had 78 Inside 50s last season but only 7 Goal Assists

Season before that 114 IFs for 14 GAs

He kicked 2 goals in 2020 and 8 in 2019

Doesnt kick enough goals or create enough goals for a primarily outside mid

Meh

Neale wins way more contested possession and kicks more goals
Yeah, he ain’t Neale. Still a good player, I’m just saying like you are that the impact isn’t as big as his reputation. As an FA, sure, but I’d rather some other options.

Not quite right - If you'd left out the "middling" reference, you'd have been pretty much bang on about Essendon.

Beats me why anyone would want to play for them.
