Was that when the blues had a mini win streak and all their fans were coming out of the woodwork? I remember that, the crowd was insane. Made the win very satisfying too haha
Spot on there Hubnester.......that was an awesome afternoon.

Such a big win was completely unexpected.

I remember that game so well as it was when Jimmy Webster bowled over 2 Carlton players(one either side of him) like they were pins at a bowling alley.

Was one of the funniest things I've seen on a footy field.

Yes it has. A few years back Stk vs Carlton. I was there with a GF and kids and it was locked out. We watch it on the big screen out the front of the stadium.

I think the closest Marvel came to a capacity lockout was the St Kilda vs Geelong game in '09 where we set the attendance record for a game.

There was a good attendance a few years ago (2016, based on AFLTables) for a Sunday afternoon game vs Carlton - lid off, and the Carlton fans showed up in droves hoping for an easy win ... pretty sure it was about 30,000 Carlton fans among the 47,000 present.

Ultimately there's little point us complaining that we don't get the marquee games or more games at the 'G, if we don't show up consistently in big numbers ... I suspect we have a large number of 3-game memberships, and a lot of people who can't/don't get to our timeslots, which makes it more of a challenge.

Dal and Goddard analysing our list.

Rough notes:

We did well 2020, sucked 2021.

Geary, Ross, Battle, Coffield, Webster depth

Sharman FF Membrey 3rd forward

Clark needs to become full time midfielder

Coffield needs to lift since Highmore and Paton are too good to leave out.

Not the worst thing i've heard from Goddard.
Not sure that all of Marshall, King, Membrey and Sharman doesn't make us too tall.
( When Membrey plays deep he always seems to want to stop and take the kick, full forward style ).

I'll be amazed and pleased if Bytel and Byrnes play consistently enough to get a game every week.
When Hannebery is injured we may see Clark go into the middle ( for Webster in ) , or we can bring Ross in.

If we assume that Hannebery will be injured most weeks we don't have much experienced midfield depth, and it may also be that they want Gresham to play forward.
If we get a ready to go kid(s) in the Draft they may well get game time.

Only problem is AFL would probably play it in WA at Optus Stadium where Nicky's statue is.

That's fine. Happy for the first game to be over there and then alternate it each year.

Give some other clubs some games they can build around and promote.

I walked past people heading back to their cars for that Carlton game.
Medallion Club, Corporates and expensive premium tickets would of had people turning away... its socialist class structure is the stadiums biggest issue. The true amount of seats available for the average footy fan is much less then the said capacity of the stadium.

Who knows what the future holds , but having a contested marking big forward kicking goals is going to be a crowd puller.
Even a guy like Sharman could become a freak in the forward line with Snaggers Higgins.
We have a young side that will attract people to the game and even our membership is starting to show it.
Add a Ben King to the mix and it will be a show people will want to see.

It's amazing what a squad clean out and good management can do , record membership when the country going through all the Covid 19 drama's.

TBH i'm a bit shocked more hasn't been done to build the rivalry between us and the dogs. there's a lot of friction between both groups supporters. both in melbourne.

we should be pumping the shit out of that game. i dont get why the clubs don't get together and just split the gate on both games. allow two member groups to compete for the one set of tickets. creating lower supply than demand.

get a full house there.

Yes they may have locked people out , i never said they didnt , i was more making the point we don't often if ever sell it out as was shown by the figures , it was not full
Ok, but we have

Yeah it was 2016 , god knows why they locked 7000 people out
I think they prepare for a certain attendance and this time couldn't effectively manage it
