Hardly. We haven’t earned it therefore we don’t deserve it.

That was my whole point to the muppet who said it was a victim mentality, after I said we get compensated because other clubs get guaranteed revenue raising games each and every year no matter how they go.

It was described as victim mentality when the facts are above.

It is written in inverted caps to emphasis how idiotic and thoughtless the initial comment was.

Should he have come out and said , i know im sh*t but who cares they are are paying me so i thought why not

Geez, hit a raw nerve with a few with this one.

I just thought it was a strange thing to say considering the bloke is 28, was finally getting a chance & had Paddy & Roma in front of him.

Good to see the Paul Hunter Protection Society thriving though.

I don't know if it's victim mentality really. More like double standards. The AFL has become a model for how sport shouldn't be run.
All these equalisation policies being introduced and then adjusted to make up for deliberate structural inequalities. Saints and their supporters are right to continuously call it out. Having said that we then need to get on and do better with the things we can control.

Nah mate , i was more taking the p155 out of you , nothing serious about my post

Not sure if it's been put up yet but the ESPN phantom form guide had Owens at pick 11, but Cal Twomey doesn't have him in the top 30. Hope your right Cal!

11. Mitch Owens (St Kilda Next-Generation Academy)
Best position:
Utility
Height, weight: 190cm, 85kg
Recruited from: Sandringham Dragons
Projected draft range: 10-30
Plays like: David Mundy
September ranking: Outside-20
Rationale: Growing around 15cm between the start of 2019 and the beginning of 2021, Owens is a late developer who only in the last month of the NAB League season entered first round contention. His performance as a late callup for Vic Metro in a trial match against Vic Country was the game that elevated his draft standing, securing 29 disposals, one goal and two score assists. He immediately backed this up with strong NAB League play for Sandringham. With his movement, overhead marking, ball winning capabilities and rapid rate of improvement, Owens is an upside choice who with continued rapid improvement could be one of this draft's very best. Had the season not been cut short, while there is an element of speculation in rating Owens this high, with the way he was developing, he may well have been rated even more highly.
Strengths:
Late growth
Rate of development
Agility
Speed
Courage
Intercept marking
Aerial marking
Versatility
Inside/outside balance
Contested ball winning
Weaknesses:
Unclear best position
Not as advanced as other top end prospects

So you're saying the league should get rid of the equalisation measures?

Guess what- our club would have been insolvent and gone 5 years ago without them.

If those equalisation measures didn't exist, I'd be with you bemoaning the structural inequality that exists where the rich clubs get richer because they get handed marquee games etc.

But the reality is that the league has shovelled mountains of money into us (taken from the revenue generated by those rich clubs) to keep us afloat.

Therefore us crying about being made to 'earn' marquee games like good friday, is exactly that- crying.

We are being kept alive as a club by equalisation measures- we are absolutely displaying victim mentality if we choose to utterly ignore that support and only look at the otherside of the coin, the structural inequalities like having to earn marquee games etc.

"Victims" only look at the "woe is me" part of the equation and completely ignore any extra support they are receiving

Carlton have stunk up the stand alone marquee opening game of the season for over a decade.
Some of the performances have been laughable. But they've still got it.
We stuffed up one day, once, and were dropped forever.

I personally hate that every season starts with the same two teams. It should change every season. Surely fans of three other 16 clubs feel the same way?

Nah it was more Ghost who was having a sook.

Need to hear more about unmade beds.

It was weird listening to that presser though... I remember thinking that this bloke is making a rod for his back if he's no good.

All good points but if we're never getting free to air games and the same 6-8 clubs do then we're never going to grow our fan base. I know it's somewhat performance based but we didn't get much recognition this season for our last season.

That wasn't why he was de-listed.

Billy was actually delisted because of ongoing concussion issues.

He's a ripping young fella... a big jovial gentle giant. Just didn't have the drive to turn the potential he had into results.

Exactly, i don't believe we would have traded Hickey if we'd known Longer was going to be forced into retirement the following year.
It left us really light on for rucks, and we are lucky that Marshall managed to rise to the occasion.

If it was performance based then based on years gone by the AFL would have at least one (checks notes) shit team in the opening game of opening round.

On that basis (rechecks notes) we did qualify for a long time.
