With McHenry he has defended his place in the team because he says he plays that role better than anyone on our list, that in itself says something about the state of our list.

He has criticised our drafting, list management and has called change all year. He went off when we overlooked Charmichael.

Surely you’re not disagreeing with him?
Couldn’t care less about Carmichael. His whole argument was that we are being negligent not being in for Phillipou even though Ginever said we got Rankine in for that role.

And ignores that we’ve got Pedlar in the works

And most of all he’s ignored that over the last few years there’s one pick that was such a mistake that he was the first to be delisted. Who was that? Did he name who it was to prove his point? Why might that be??

I think there is 0.00% chance we wanted him over TT.

And 0.00% might be overestimated

Completely correct. There was zero chance we wanted him

However there was zero chance the Bulldogs wouldn’t match pick one. They already had advertising and billboards up for JUH coming to the club - and the majority of draft analysts had him as pick 1

Safe to bid on him. With MM some risk at too high. He is solid talent and teams aren’t going to over reach just to frustrate us - even for revenge. Watch out for Walsh though!!

I couldn’t care less that you don’t care we didn’t get Charmichael, that’s not the point. You said he’s been vocal after Rowie was dumped, Charmichael was mid season and he’s been critical all year, so you’re wrong.

As for Rowe, he was taken with an average pick, mistakes like that are part of the course. Blowing first rounders is a completely different matter, they are costly mistakes.

Rowe is far from the worst pick we have had in the last few years. That’s just a mile wrong

Must have missed all the criticisms of Soligo and Rachele this year

So have I but it will depend if we can find a buyer at fair value, no mention of a deal being already nutted out though.....2 SA players involved as well as Michalanney who is a lock apparently....only one of the two though due to list space, 1st player can't be had, move on to the 2nd.

Barnett?

Rowe needs to understand that, as he leads the major sports commentary in SA, he has to be fundamentally professional at all times. And he is far from that, just in his general performance. His personalisation through the failure of his son should result in disciplinary action or even the end of his career. But given we have have the Murdoch media as the exemplar of best practice, play on nothing to see here!

I thought our draft hand was done?

MM + upgrades.

Next year’s pick should be saved for trades!

I’d much rather we went to Free Agents and trading in exposed talent with high picks.

We seem to have done really well with our outside 1st round picks recently, nabbing the likes of Berry - Soligo - Worrell - Parnell - Gollant - Butts - Shoenberg.

Compare that to the first rounders on the list in 2023 (I’ve probably forgotten someone!):

2 Thilthorpe
3 Rankine
6 McAsey, Rachele
9 Jones
11 Milera, Pedlar
12 Fogarty
14 Smith, Hately
16 McHenry
17 Doedee
25 Cook

I mean some of that top end talent is going to be the pointy end of our next push, the difference makers … I’d still argue that the non-first rounders are the meat on the bone.

I recently re-watched the first 3 games of the season.

It reminded me of a few things.

McHenry is a whole lot more than people on here think.
Thilthorpe is going to be something else.
Rachele is absurd, how I ever thought of uttering his name in any pie in the sky JHF trade scenario is beyond me.
Jones is still improving.
I feel like Shoenberg is going to be a player once his body develops, he moves and acts like a more powerful unit than is right now.
Himmelberg still has potential, i hope he reaches it.
Laird is a very good footballer.
Dawson is the most influential player on our team, outside of Tex :)

Happy to sit out this year, Pick up MM … bring in some more talent via trade at the end of 2023 - have a proper crack at it from 2024 onwards.
Not necessarily done. There is a window between national and rookie draft where you can upgrade and downgrade. We upgraded Keays last year before the rookie draft.

We could go Max and 2 picks still. Then downgrade 2 players and upgrade butts and Strachan

Is that your argument? We’ve drafted some good players we don’t need to worry about blowing first rounders?

It’s easier to just admit you were wrong, Rowey hasn’t just become critical after his son was delisted
I’m not wrong. You’re losing track of what we are discussing.

Ignoring the fact it’s Hamish that heads drafting and recruitment and Reid who does list management. And remembering Reid would be more involved in the decision to delist Rowe. And it’s Reid personally who Rowe is calling a dud.

I haven’t heard Rowe criticize the recruitment because last years draft was largely a success, as was the year befores (save for that one pick that has now been cut)

How about you show me somewhere that Rowe was as critical about Reid in the last couple years but before the decision to delist his son.

If you haven’t heard it that’s on you, you shouldn’t state he has only just criticising him after his son was delisted. And no I don’t need to find the info for you, I know he has previously, you don’t, that’s fine, you can continue to be wrong.

Yeah cool I haven’t heard something you claim. Even on 5aa yesterday a Bicks and Ginever commented he was more fired up than usual. So yeah, be wrong.

So he was more fired up, doesn’t mean he hasn’t been critical before.

Look I get you are protective of the club, that’s fine, just be accurate otherwise you come across as a sycophant.

I’m not protective of the club at all. Criticism is warranted when it comes from rational people.

Rowie isn’t rational. He’s let his emotions get the better of him plenty of times. This is another example.

Reid cut his son. Rowe has it in for him. Rowe is just you stock standard footy parent that can’t hack that his boy isn’t the champion he thinks he is.
