Am I correct in my understanding .....if you nominate a player as a Father / Son ...you are obligated to match a bid ?
No. Otherwise, why would anyone bid? Or else bid on them all at the start to make them cost the most.

If I've got it right, we have 3 list spots available.
1 will be for MM.
1 maybe for a slider - Mattaes or Barnett etc... if we can make the right trade back in.
1 kept on hold - maybe Turner? Maybe a developing KPD or ruck if we don't get Barnett.

Does that sound right?

We also delisted McPherson with the intention of rookie picking him. Given the injury, could we perhaps be a bit more ruthless and just cut him?

Regarding trading our future first, especially for a particular player in this years draft, seems very risky to do it before draft night since it seems to me that, as surprising as it may seem, clubs really only finalise their lists about a day or two out from the draft. It seems, for example, that clubs like to see the prospect and their parents together at the same time and watch the interactions and relationships and they can guage a fair bit with that and if the kid is a long way away at school doing year 12, the clubs only get this chance right at the last minute before the draft when the kids go home after exams.

If you trade your pick early and there's no goss that club x is going for your player ahead of the pick you get, great, but if you get that pick, then find out some club ahead of you is def going for that player, well if you have no other options around the pick you acquired its going to be a wasted pick most likely. Big risks. Sometimes you'd do it, a lot of times I reckon you'd sit it out, at least until draft night, and even then...

No. Otherwise GWS would bid on MM at 1 and clean us out of the draft and put us in deficit. If the bid comes before where we value him, we won’t match.

Moves well but looks like his kick lacks depth.
No, he's an accurate and quite penetrating kick actually on what I've seen for the Gippsland Power and Vic Country....a real metres gained player with his run and carry. Would be a nice get late/rookie. Wing IMO would be his spot and you'd love to be a forward leading at him.

A medium defender with composure, elite decision-making and precise kicking to set up the play from midfield or defence. He had a consistent 2022 season, averaging 20 disposals (77 per cent efficiency) across 13 matches for the Gippsland Power, with his speed being a feature of his play. While not father-son eligible, he is the son of Jacob Schuback, who was selected by Adelaide in the 2001 Draft and played seven games for the Crows. Tested very well at the State Draft Combine in Victoria, with his 2.98 seconds for the 20m sprint, 8.3 seconds on the agility test and 6:39 seconds for the 2km time trial all strong performances.

its funny - ModernArtillery picked Shuback and Verrall in the mock draft and I know you have been very positive of big Verrall as well. Is that your burner account:D

Nope he must be a fair judge of U18's footballers obviously. ;)

I''ve rated Jonti all along...kickers like him are high premium.

His highlights he is struggling to kick 40m.

12 months on, we're still in the same boat ....I still contend we should have orchestrated a deal for Finn Callaghan (191cm midfielder)
12 months ago, I knew we needed to be a couple more picks up the board and I'd read that he would highly likely go to the Giants but given what we need I was hoping until his name was read out, he we land at the club maybe I'm a little seduced by big bodied mids at times but no doubt we still desperately need one and have done for yonks.

I'm not denying that for a minute .....just IMO Callaghan / Andrew plus Rankine this year were the better combo for future success

Interesting discussion .....if we knew we were going to be getting Rankine ...would we have made the same choice re Rachelle
It's the argument of ball generator (midfielder) versus the finisher .......what's our Achilles heel again ?
I think they are vastly different styles of players, the only similar thing is their height

But anytime you add ultra talented clean ball handling skilful young players it’s a good thing

Exactly what we lacked - skill , X factor , match winning capabilities etc

Yep the Suns head recruiter Kali Burns said in an interview with Cal Twomey this week that they flew over to Perth earlier in the week (7 hour flight) and drove out to Dunsborough (3 hour drive) to meet Rueben and his family so they certainly have very real interest.

Reckon Humphries is their man but Ginbey the back up in case Essendon take Humphries

Think you better go have another look or go to the NAB League App and have a look at some Gippy Power games.
I'll admit I don't have time to go through full games.
Rewatched the highlights and one decent kick 55 out to just shy of the line.
The rest maybe he was pulling his kicks and highlights don't show this aspect.

Appears to be an accurate kick though 👍
