Makes heaps of sense for Melbourne. They have no need for a couple more late first rounders, but a top 10 pick could make a difference. Particularly when brought in a year earlier.

We're not quite in that position, so moving picks around to get late firsts/ early seconds makes sense and giving them up has a cost (particularly if Hamish has another Soligo in mind). But we should still be looking to trade up for the really good kids, ie 2 top 10 picks (2023 and 2024) for a top 4 pick (or top trade target).
Ss should we offer 23/1 and 23/2 for Phillipou?

Is that considered aggressive or overpaying, or does it depend on whether he ends up being Bont mk2, or Paddy Dow mk2?

I would ...trouble is the teams aligned to getting Phillipou, need him as much as us & are rebuilding too ......so no deal could be done, irrespective of how rich

Our only hope was if he fell out of the top 10

If I've got it right, we have 3 list spots available.
1 will be for MM.
1 maybe for a slider - Mattaes or Barnett etc... if we can make the right trade back in.
1 kept on hold - maybe Turner? Maybe a developing KPD or ruck if we don't get Barnett.

Does that sound right?

We also delisted McPherson with the intention of rookie picking him. Given the injury, could we perhaps be a bit more ruthless and just cut him?

Jakob Ryan the other one we've been linked with in the media over the last 24hrs.

Could it be Barnett and Ryan with our 2x2022/2s?

It does depend on how much we value him. The hope is that vic clubs are a bit scared off and he drops below his value and we can get him for what he is vworth to us (especially if he is the blue chip we want). Him being very different to our other midfielders also adds a bit of value for us.

Sounds like Sydney (and maybe GWS) could be a good third party if the party we want to deal with need picks this year.

Given the 2023 draft appears to be stronger, this appears to be another JHF offer to Roos situation...

I think you'll find Dodoro has already knocked that back...

No way we should give that up.

Pick 6 or so in a much better draft plus 21 for pick 10?

I don’t know much about next years “much better draft” as the two guys you mainly hear about are Reid (likely number 1 we have almost zero chance of getting) and Moir who is arguably not the type we need (big body mid). So who is the big body mid projecting this far out around 6-12 that we would be targeting- because that’s the comparison. Has nothing to do with a better draft etc. Phillipou v who?

The other thing to consider is we will likely have two SSP/MSD spots next year, with McAsey likely about to retire and Seed going on the inactive list (the club seems reluctant to force him to retire).

Maybe hold off on redrafting McPherson and Turner and keep them as train on players.

TBF .....without context, that post is damning

However, my point in the post was using pick#4 on a small fwd, when we were DESPERATE for an elite midfielder ....I couldn't fathom doing that with #4

And yes, I still stand by all my comments

12 months on, we're still in the same boat ....I still contend we should have orchestrated a deal for Finn Callaghan (191cm midfielder) or Mac Andrew (200cm will be something) ......you can't tell me they would be worse selections than Rachelle & more suiting to our still unsatisfied needs

Needs that unless we fix .....no premiership to be forthcoming

Or Rachele develops into a classy starting mid - which I think will be the goal with him

If we are able to secure better players in this draft, then absolutely

In an Adelaide conservative way ....MELB current demonstrating aggressive trading strategies to get their targeted player .....we don't do that

Look, we've got a good player in Rachelle ....but both my alternative player options were as good, and more a need

Not nearly as sure on Mac Andrew for us - and haven’t seen much of Callaghan. Will be one to watch this year with the gaps in GWS midfield

Think a quicker version of Bontempelli .....Callaghan could be anything

Is there a point at which we won't match a bid on MM?
What if it comes in the first 10 picks? Do we just let him pass? Top 15?
Am I correct in my understanding .....if you nominate a player as a Father / Son ...you are obligated to match a bid ?

It's probably doable for us to use a F2 pick to get a mid R2 pick this year worth around 750 points and with 683 points from our current picks, that's enough to match a bid around pick 6-7 (as it stands at this point).

Probably no one rates MM in that range so we should be able to match a bid for him but that would wipe our draft stocks this year.

I think it's a no ... but if they go without being bid on, you'd have to take the FS player as a rookie at the least.
