Smith is far, far, far away from being dropped.

Without him we have next to ZERO run and carry from the back line. Hamill has shown glimpses but can't seem to go on with it, Parnell needs time, Jones often looks to be almost a lock-down wingman at time but doesn't show much offensively, and Hinge is OK but not exactly lightning quick.

Smith's spot is safe as houses.
So you must have thought he played well this year to have such a secure spot on his position ?
He wasn't good and if he plays like that next year, I hope we try someone else

Nope I didn't think he played well at all, but there's a big difference between being out of form and having adequate replacements fighting for his position, which we absolutely do not.

2nd only to Dawson for average metres gained. You can swing it whichever way you like, Smith gets the ball going forward from our defensive lines.

That metres gain stat is one of the most misleading stats around I reckon.
The trouble was he kept kicking long to our disadvantage all the time and kept creating turnovers.
And then the ball came back with interest.
And there were plenty of games where he was MIA

This is where McPherson and Hamill being destroyed by injuries hurts.

Milera or Cook might be able to go back there. MM might be able to play the role in time also.

I wonder when the club will announce some delistings..
Might wait until after trade period if we think there's any interest in any of the possible delistings.

Frampton will go either delist or cheap trade, got a feeling Newchurch isn't impressing coaches so could be a delist.

Collingwood are (inexplicably) reported to be interested in Frampton, much like Brisbane were interested in CEY and Gold Coast in Atkins - poor fools them. Similarly, Footscray are reported to be interested in Rowe. Thus, it's unlikely we'll see either player delisted until after trade week (at which point the respective teams can take them for free as DFAs).

The rookies - Davis, Turner, Newchurch, and Borlase - are all still actively playing in the magoos. We shouldn't expect any announcements there (unless the Cat B rookies are re-signed) until after the SANFL team is out of the finals.

In short... all of our uncontracted players are either likely trade targets, or still actively playing, so no announcements are likely for the time being.

Even though he just recontractrd Himmelberg may be off to Freo.

Can't we just change our senior/rookie mix... & have less rookie?

ie. Don't backfill those promoted to the senior list.
Yeah, that's exactly what we can do - though we can only have up to 38 main list players at any time (then 4 rookies and 2 Cat B).

I covered that in a later post.

In 2022 we went with a 39/5 mix, opting to select Nankervis in the PSD instead of waiting for the RD. We have the option of going to a 40/4 mix, but that only creates a maximum of one more senior list position.
Not sure those numbers are right.

I think you can only get to 44 total list places by having 2 Cat Bs.

Humans now...addictited to touching screens, think stats arefar more important than they are... accept that the game has eroded into a pressure, tackle, bore fest

I completely disagree, sure Frampton is a horrible forward and defender but I would bet my left appendage he is better than ROB in ruck. He is a great kick, now a pretty reliable mark around the ground and moves well. At the same height as Rob, he would be a very handy mobile ruck.

Frampton was Drafted as a Ruckman, and played early years at PORT as a Ruckman

The question is, why was he played as a FWD (fail) and then as a DEF ? .......it appears both PORT & CROWS didn't see Frampton as an AFL Ruckman

We had a great opportunity this year to at least give it a try given the crap form of ROB.

In a rebuild, you should try different options...

Apparently Carlton have to use their first this year or at least a 1st rounder in some capacity

And Carlton aren’t trading a pick 10 for “maybe” making your best 22 type players. Regardless of 23 coming back - top 1-15 picks are reserved for top shelf (or academy points )

Yes, but when Nicks did try new roles .....he was criticised for playing players out of position

Sometimes, you simply cannot win, as an AFL Coach
