Yes, but when Nicks did try new roles .....he was criticised for playing players out of position

Sometimes, you simply cannot win, as an AFL Coach
Rarely...

ROB was crap most of the season... so we had ample opportunity to try different things... rather than just giving Strachan 2 games... where he actually played better than ROB in most games.

That metres gain stat is one of the most misleading stats around I reckon.
The trouble was he kept kicking long to our disadvantage all the time and kept creating turnovers.
And then the ball came back with interest.
And there were plenty of games where he was MIA

I think a number of those MIA games he was playing a very accountable role - to free up Dawson and to an extent Hinge

Cmon he was criticised for Hately and Crouch on the wing which are just dumb moves
Rightly so, as was completely insane moves.

We knew this before the ball was bounced.

Might wait until after trade period if we think there's any interest in any of the possible delistings.

Frampton will go either delist or cheap trade, got a feeling Newchurch isn't impressing coaches so could be a delist.

No way Newchurch gets delisted surely - looks a very likely type and was always going to take a bit of time to mature

In your opinion. Rightly or wrongly the coaching panel didn’t rate Strachan compared to what Rob bought

Sure, but we were talking about trying Billy in ruck for something different.

It's not like it would have been keeping an in form player out of the side...

Rankine, Newchurch could very well be our 2017 version of Betts, CC.

Not sure those numbers are right.

I think you can only get to 44 total list places by having 2 Cat Bs.
You might be right. I can't be bothered counting.

The main point is that we can only add 1 more player to our senior list, by reducing our rookie list size. Picking Nankervis in the PSD, instead of the RD, meant that we only have 1 more senior list position before we max out.

I completely disagree, sure Frampton is a horrible forward and defender but I would bet my left appendage he is better than ROB in ruck. He is a great kick, now a pretty reliable mark around the ground and moves well. At the same height as Rob, he would be a very handy mobile ruck.
Don't go betting things you can't afford to lose. He's a horrible ruckman.

He has a good, long kick - but that's pretty much the only facet of his game which has ever been shown in a positive light at AFL level.

Apparently Carlton have to use their first this year or at least a 1st rounder in some capacity
Carlton's recent round 1 picks:
2018 - #1 (Walsh), #19 (Stocker)
2019 - #17 (Kemp), #20 (Philp)
2020 - none.
2021 - none.

The relevant rule is using 2 r1 picks in a rolling 4 year period and penalty for violating this is club can't trade future picks.

So, I reckon they don't violate the rule if they don't use a r1 pick in 2022.

In 2023 though, the question for me is even if the 4 year period go 2020..2023, has Carlton broken this rule if they still haven't used a r1 pick until the first round of picks have been made on draft night?

If they haven't they could maybe still trade 2024 picks as future picks, and it's only in 2024 that they wouldn't be able to trade future picks.

They're probably not likely to push things this far though.

Jesus Christ, ROB shouldn’t be anywhere near that coin

Thanks Captain Hindsight.

25 year old Ruckman coming off a great season in which he won our best and fairest season signs a 4 year extension.

It was actually a good signing at the time, particularly considering Brodie Grundy signed a 7 year, $7million dollar deal a year prior.

The amount that ROB gets blasted on here is ridiculous. He’s a slightly better than average Ruck and Premierships have been won with less

ROB isn’t worth that amount of money even if he won best and fairest. His decision making and kicking skills are an issue.

Brodie Grundy is different, Grundy shown for years that he can perform, unfortunately injuries have caught up to him.

Hence Brodie got a 7 year $7 mill deal and Rob got around 60% of that.

When you consider the average player in 2022 got around $389,000 in the AFL and Rob got signed to a $500-$550k a year deal I don't think its a bad contract.

Perfectly right.
But I'll still keep blasting him. He's part of the midfield problem, not solution.

No wonder they prefer to trade them away.

Walsh was a no brainier #1, but otherwise they are clueless.

So you were happy with his overall performances this season, particularly when he was captain?
