And what are the odds of Buddy being our Mystery Man?

The club is always looking to be thrifty with filling needs, and Buddy as a free agent would certainly fit that criteria, and appears to have a few more goals left in him. It could be an explanation for the clubs apparent desire to play a tight hand with the salary cap at the momemt, especially given the rumour of him not being satisfied with Sydney's offer and still wanting decent money. His manager 😅 also mentioned a willingness for him/they to relocate if it meant being closer to family.

Could the dream be real?
No

He's as talented as some of the guys I mentioned imo. He does not however seem to have the confidence to try and hit those kicks and instead bombs it down the line almost every time.

It's always been the case. It's almost like people have inflated opinions on his kicking because the other parts of his game are so good. I have never rated his decision making as anything other than average.
Interceptor with kicking efficency. At his best he is a good choice for the role

LukeRyan
Already one of the game’s best intercepting and rebound defenders, Ryan took his game to another level with Freo’s backline missing tall defenders Alex Pearce, Joel Hamling and Griffin Logue for all or most of the season. Standing at 186cm and often giving up 20kg and 20cm to his opponents, Ryan took on the key defender role and won more than his fair share of individual battles. His ability as an intercepting and rebounding defender still shone through as he led Fremantle for intercept marks, metres gained and led the AFL with 113 rebound 50s – 17 more than any other player in the league. He became the first defender since Dale Kickett (1997) to win a Doig Medal.

Based on?

There’s been zero noise. You think that our ‘mystery man’ who just happens to be the biggest name in the AFL world has been kept under wraps?

Plus Buddy at his age wouldn’t come to a side that travels every 2nd week across the country.

I feel stupid for even having to explain it.

Well yeah, not after the game Walker had on the weekend anyway.

Who's defending it?

So he doesn't have the depth of knowledge about our playing list and team structure that our supporters who see our players weekly do, meh. It's not reasonable to expect every footy pundit to know the positions and pecking order of the 700+ players in the league, especially kids who have played maybe 20 games in his career.

But yes, I agree, doesn't appear completely knowledgeable about us.

In years gons by half the AFL media wouldn't know who either of Walker or Henry were. Be glad we're relevant again.

Except, it's not? Both Henry and Walker play a running role off the flanks and wings for us. Conversely, Pearce is a pillar of our team and Captain this season, Treacy is last in line for a position we are desperate for quality in, and has done nothing to warrant the hype surrounding him here.
Walker absolutely does not play a running role off the flanks and wings for us, Ralph might not know but a Freo supporter should know that?

This stat rates any kick that is over 40 metres and isn’t directly marked by the opposition as ‘effective’.

His 60m bombs to packs may be deemed effective disposals by this statistic but short of a contested mark they’re ****ing useless to the team. This kind of disposal is what loses us games like the one on the weekend.

He’s ones of the best interceptors in the league but speeding up his ball movement and taking more risky but potentially more beneficial kicks will make him a much more effective player (actually effective - not what that BS stat says).

Why the snark?

It's not like he hasn't made even bigger switches before that had 0 leaks.

Who is there be to not keep it under wraps? Buddy, his wife who is his manager, and Belly? Not many week links there to spill the beans.

Again, why the snark? Seems a pretty reasonable question. Certainly your reasoning for flat out rejection isn't well thought through enough.

Buddy would be terrible, unless you feed him on a plate on a lead he doesnt kick goals, he cant mark over head or jump anymore and with our bombs inside 50 he would have no chance.

There's some Schrodinger's Cat about this one, I both agree and disagree. Henry to HB would help get the ball in his hands and be involved in the play more, which is what we should be aiming for, but isn't physically capable enough to trusted with beating an opponent in contests consistently. But we're jam packed down back anyway, so it's a moot point unless we do a bit of a reshuffle over the off season, which isn't out of question given our positional needs and rumoured trades.

How about one more of those cats again with regards to Treacy. With Logue spending time up front as a defensive forward or potentially leaving, and Hamling appearing to be past it these days, we could possibly be light on for tall depth down back. Is Treacy closer to a game for us as KPF, or KPD?
Hamling is doing well and from reports doesn't seem past it. But he isn't best 22 either. If he is decent again next year he is ideally placed for a contract extension as our break glass in case of emergency KPD for a season or two.

Historically we have been poor at developing KPFs which is a concern for both Treacy and Amiss. Hoping Grayham is the solution.

Walkers preeminent attribute is his pace and ability to rebound and break away from opponents. As a Freo supporter, I know that. As we saw in the weekend, he's certainly not selected for his ability to blanket forwards out of the game.

I was replying to you asking me why.
I thought the answers were obvious.

I didn’t need to really think it out.

The reasoning is also obvious, but thanks for your observations.

Except he's blanketed forwards several times this season. Don't take one poor game and ignore all the good ones he played

You’re also not too bright if you think Buddy, his wife and Bell are the only 3 that would need to keep this under wraps.

Anyway…

He's certainly not the dominant force that he once was, and yes, his leading and ground ball style of play isn't suited to our current bomb it long approach, but I'd argue that's something we need to adjust in general, and to suit someone like Amiss. 50+ goals this season is nothing to be scoffed at, especially on a small ground like the SCG. A fast track with open space like Optus is well suited to his style of play. He kicked a bag here not long ago, in a game where his opponent played him well.

Maybe if you spent more time answering the question, instead of making ad hominem attacks thanks.

Who else would need to know in that sort of situation, and how is it any different than his move to Sydney, which was the biggest move in AFL history, and had not a single whisper?
